I got the urge to re-play Phantasy Star this week after not having played it in like 20 years, so I applied a patch that cuts down on the grinding and I've been really enjoying it. It's a pretty comfy sci-fi RPG.

If you want proper CRPGs with build variety, c&c, multiple plot branches/endings, etc then you actually want Chinese, not Japanese. Tale of Wuxia, Ho Tu Lo Shu, Hero's Adventure, Wandering Sword.

If you want JRPGs with a more generic, boring western medieval fantasy aesthetic - which is what it sounds like your complaints basically boil down to - there's plenty of that as well. The Ogre Battle series is one of my favorites, every game in the series is gold but the most recent remake of Tactics Ogre is the simplest starting point to see how they grab you.

If you just want to cut to the chase and play the best JRPG - one of the best RPGs period - then get yourself sorted with a copy of Sengoku Rance.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Koudelka, an anti–weeb JRPG (Shadow Hearts series, Koudelka's sequels, are weeb as fuck though)

If you think my complaints about seemingly every single jRPG being populated by little girls, or children in general, with squeaky voices boil down to "I want generic fantasy aesthetic" then.... I have failed.

The only good JRPG I can think of where you can play as someone who does not look like a pretty boy and more like a chiseled Western face is Suikoden 3, if you pick Geddoe as the protagonist.

Otherwise, you're playing as pretty boys. Get used to it.

EDIT: I forgot that there is Final Fantasy XII. Pretty boy Vaan is advertised as the main character on the cover, but he doesn't really get central focus in the story like Ashe/Baltheir/Basch do, perhaps due to the creator Matsuno leaving during development and the game being finished by someone else. You can also create a character with a little more chiseled face in FF14.

It's not about "western" anything. I don't want western fantasy setting or aesthetics or western chiseled faces.

I was just wondering if there is a jRPG with characters who look more than 10 yo. I even posted a few examples in the OP.

Am I weird for wondering why there isn't a SINGLE modern anime jRPG with the aesthetics of Vinland Saga or the upcoming War of the Rohirrim? Ya'll really want to tell me nobody would buy an anime jRPG unless it's full of bunnygirl-grade cringe?

Your example pics are just a couple of really generic medieval western-inspired designs - one of whom (thorfinn from vinland saga) is especially funny, because we in the weeb community all rolled our eyes at that one for somehow managing to make a viking manga star an archetypal jrpg twink. He's just a jrpg twink wearing leather armor instead of a gi.

Besides the non-standard jRPG setting the game just isn't very good.
I guess the battle system can be considered too experimental and based on random drops, which can make the experience kind of jarring. But otherwise it's pretty neat and actually short, despite using 4 CDs

Vagrant Story is a great JRPG without cutesy anime girls and other anime tropes, it's pretty dark, though the main character flashes his bare asscheeks through the whole game

The Way of the Samurai franchise is interesting, cleaves to historical realism (for... certain definitions of "realism") rather than anime, and I think most would consider it an RPG. A few of them have been released on PC.

managing to make a viking manga star a generic jrpg twink
He might be a jrpg twink but compared to the 98% of the jRPG aesthetics he's veritable Jesse Ventura in the Predator.

And I don't insist on medieval western settings, it's just what I've found. How about this, can we have a jRPG with a PC like this? I'd play that.

Has any Final Fantasy ever even featured a loli character in any capacity? That's such a weird projection onto a franchise famous for women with tits bigger than their heads.

I was about to say Final Fantasy XVI, but then I remembered that this game isn't a classical JRPG anymore.

Rikku (リュック, Ryukku) is a 15-year-old Al Bhed girl who is Cid's daughter and Brother's younger sister.

I suppose for you perverts 15 is already "too old".

Potato Flowers in Full Bloom is japanese, and one of the best RPGs ever made, but gameplay-wise it isn't precisely a normal jrpg or western dungeon crawler. And the graphics are generic unity store assets, which may offend you just as surely as anime lolis.
