Some actual decent recommendations ITT.

I'll throw my vote towards SaGa series. Especially older ones. They're more or less open world/non linear affairs where you get given an overall goal and figure out how to achieve it yourself. RS2 and 3 are both pretty interesting games. SaGa Frontier is a personal favourite as well, there's 7 characters to choose from, though none are particularly manly. You can pick the robot though, and their story lines vary from totally freeform to very on-rails. SaGa has a very cool combat system too where you learn new skills in flashes of inspiration mid battle.

Breath of Fire 3 is a good game if you like exploration, with lots of cool ways to power up your party to find. It's generally not very difficult though, and you might not gel with a bunch of the characters. I'd give it a look at least, it's got one of the better stories for a jrpg. Pretty traditional though; story is totally linear with no meaningful choices to make.

For something not mentioned yet, I'll throw in Valkyrie Profile. You play as a valkyrie and roam around witnessing the final moments of various characters (heroic or otherwise) then recruit them. You can train them up a bit and then send them up to Asgard to fight in the war and keep the ones you like for your own party. It's got a unique combat system where your whole team gets their turn at once and you input their commands in real time to do combos and juggle enemies and such, has some fun platforming gimmicks, and a bunch of neat dungeons. Lenneth (the valkyrie) is a woman, obviously, but she's not a squeeky cute girl. She's generally either a hardass or occasionally motherly figure depending on who she's dealing with. I adore the english dub, it's hammy as hell. It's got a lot of long cutscenes, but they're broken up by long dungeons as well, so I think the pacing works out. You'll probably like the artstyle more than a lot of other stuff.

Crystal Project is NOT japanese, but is very clearly meant as an homage to final fantasy 5. It transcends that description by leaps and bounds, though, with a massive open world gated with metroidvania-style progression and exploration, and absolutely fucking ball busting difficulty.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
I'd also like to warn all longtime jRPGs fans that I'm just a vanguard of a vast army of wRPG nerds who are currently being routed from the genre by screeching fat purple-hair vegan landwhales and zero-T soyed male devs who WILL keep cramming empowered black wahmen into western RPGs until nothing but rubble and tumbleweed remains.

You don't accept immigrants? Well tough, your cute snug niche will be like that small American town overrun with Haitian dindus very soon.

That's why I ran ahead of the curve and started getting into Chinese stuff a decade ago. Go ahead and ruin Japan, modernity will never catch me!

Now that I think about it, Lufia 2 is probably a good recommendation. You get married halfway through the game to the only long term female party member. Combat is fairly trivial, but it's got some fun puzzles in the dungeons and it's fun to solve the optional ones and hunt for secret passages and treasures.

I never got around to playing it, but a few credible friends tell me this was actually quite good:

Play one of the SNES Final Fantasies. Everything else is extremely tedious and pedophilic.

Not true, there are gems to be found, but yes it is difficult to navigate. Nonetheless, yes, play Final Fantasy 5, 6 & 7. Should be standard operating procedure for a newbie to start there.

Do not make 6 your first, go with 5 or 7. 6 is an absolute must-play but it is best to have context from one of the others first, otherwise you probably wont survive the first third of the game unless you're a drooling storyfaggot (it starts out kinda braindead but becomes a true classic 2/3rds of the way in, which is quite a few hours to power through).

Especially 5 with the job system may be to the liking of someone who is more used to Western CRPGs

Has any Final Fantasy ever even featured a loli character in any capacity? That's such a weird projection onto a franchise famous for women with tits bigger than their heads.

Rikku (リュック, Ryukku) is a 15-year-old Al Bhed girl who is Cid's daughter and Brother's younger sister.

I suppose for you perverts 15 is already "too old".

FF from 10 onwards isn't Final Fantasy, but even then there is always at least one character or some very minor weirdness you have to turn a blind eye to. For example, Relm (combat-efficient little girl that should be in bed, not saving the world) and ultros (childish silliness) in FF6 is Japanese to the core, but they make up 2% of the game's content it is easy to ignore or even appreciate as it is not constantly shoved down your throat or still handled more tastefully than other JRPG. If the whole game was Relm and Ultros it'd be awful. But 90s FF do not be like that.

Oh dear. Please OP do not under any circumstances listen to this guy. Unless you want to leave JRPG with the same mentality you had upon entry (that they all suck and are for retards).
Chrono Trigger is essentially a SNES Final Fantasy (even many of the same devs) but with almost everything good about them stripped out. Also it's not even remotely an RPG, very little of what actually defines a RPG is to be found within. It's just pretending. Barely a game at all, you push buttons but none of it means anything except to drive you towards the next plot point. Anime cringe-wise however I will lend it to it, it's not a big offender. But just play FF (or even some other 90s Squaresoft games like Vagrant Story or Parasite Eve) instead if you're not a fool.

The situation is just as bad in JRPG land. Localization studios consist entirely of those same freaks and body horrors. Because there has been a lot of pushback to their rewrites, they've gone to the source and forced the Japs to start changing to appeal to Western audiences. It's very common, but here's two examples: Xseed, the publisher/localizer, happily bragged about convincing the developers of Rune Factory 5 to implement homo marriage. Since I assume you're not familiar with the series, it's a fantasy farming simulator, with roots in the old Harvest Moon games. All the previous games featured only heterosexual marriages. In the older Trails games, one of the conflicts was that the Asian stand-in population was being taken in as refugees by one of the European stand-in nations. They then started causing trouble and assassinations because they didn't get enough free stuff. Later games retconned this into "evil white man is a racist oppressor". Recently there was an interview with Dragon Quest devs where they admitted that they're forced to censor their games to appease Western media, which of course was met with a tsunami of bullshit excuses and I believe it got pulled.

A lot of people decided to move to Japanese media when it became clear that Western stuff was nothing but propaganda by people with purely malicious interests. That's why they've focused so much on Japanese games and cartoons; you're not allowed to have anything nice, filthy white straight male.

Like, you've literally told him to go and play a game where a lecherous noble flirts with a 10 year old girl...

Resonance of Fate is pretty good. Interesting and original combat system, cool story and world, good aesthetic, sounds good (music, voices). For once a steampunk setting that does not suck. One source of inspiration is the manga Gunnm. And it is quite funny at times.

You don't get to create your party, you play as a team of three. There is a lot of synergy between them during combat.
Downsides are that combat gets repetitive after a while (as in most games anyway) and it looks a lot of grey/brown, as many games of that time (released in 2010). Also the PC port is minimal, the controls are designed for a controller, it could be annoying with mouse and keyboard (I have not tried).

Since when is asking a child their age "flirting"? You're either dim (terrible reading comprehension) or trolling. Sensible people are going to interpret this as it is intended - shock reaction of Edgar from the boldness of the little girl to call him "lover boy".

Here's the proper context:

Relm: What's wrong, lover boy?
Edgar: How old are you?
Relm: 10... why?
Relm: I'm coming along, too.
Edgar: You've grown up entirely too fast! Lighten up, okay!?

This is where the genre peaked, no need to play anything less.

Very comfy game. Can recommend. But fighting gets a bit tedious at the end, and for the love of god, do not even try to do the Arena challenges.

The original reply is actually "Yeah, that’d definitely be a crime… I better just forget about it."

But yeah, I was taking the piss anyway.

Oh damn. I did not know this. Well, most people have and are going to play the sensible version (Woolsley script) where this does not take place. Kind of a shame that's in the game's legacy. Sometimes, censorship is called for if it is silencing the expressions of a creep.

Yes genius. But it doesn't go too far into the weirdness, its suitable for normal people too.
True, but it's still a bunch of kids in the party.

Recommendations for SNES FF games is hilarious. 4 has Rydia and the twins, 5 has Krile, and 6 has Relm. Honestly they're probably among the worst games for having some sort of child genius in your party.

Also, absolutely go play this. Excellent game. Easily the best take on traditional jrpg combat, period. No cutscenes or story to speak of, just freeform exploration and being a pack of murder hobos in a giant world. Overworld is eye cancer but the monsters tend to look pretty nice. And for the love of god play on hard difficulty and don't try to grind your way past every challenge like some whiny bitch.
