FF4 is shit so nobody should recommend that. FF5 Krile inherits the power of the crystals, none of her combat talents are hers so it is somewhat believable. It makes sense in the context of the story. Also there is zero Jap weirdness revolving around her or literally anything in the story, and it's a game about the adventure and gameplay before anything anyway. FF6 Relm as mentioned doesn't get much screentime, so her being out of place or weird jap shit is very easy to ignore.

But it doesn't go too far into the weirdness
Just out of sheer curiosity, what would be the opposite example?

jRPGs that would weird the everliving fuck out of normies like me?

Shadow Hearts Covenant I lasted about 4 hours of excruciating pain, from total simping on women (getting on their knees and praying to god simply because a pretty girl changed her outfit and looked a little more pretty), to two gay frenchmen with grotesque character design and off-putting flamboyancy all in your face, to anime theatrics I have trouble even describing just how lame it is, but think Dragon Ball Z type cringe and dial it up to over one thousand, to moody emo weirdo "cool" dude cringelord main character.

This is without getting into the gameplay. Better than the average shit JRPG I guess but not good enough.

There was no sexualisation of children that I saw and the game did have its charm in other regards, but it is a fine example of Japanese cringe overload from recent memory. I accept a scene or two of weirdness here and there in a jap game, you sort of have to and there can sometimes be something to appreciate about it in moderation, but this was absolute overload and just distasteful in execution.

The original reply is actually "Yeah, that’d definitely be a crime… I better just forget about it."

https://legendsoflocalization.com/w...ut-relm-in-each-final-fantasy-vi-translation/

But yeah, I was taking the piss anyway.

Oh damn. I did not know this. Well, most people have and are going to play the sensible version (Woolsley script) where this does not take place. Kind of a shame that's in the game's legacy. Sometimes, censorship is called for if it is silencing the expressions of a creep.
Truly beggars belief how craven and pathetic this attitude is.

I'm not sorry. I dont want pedo shit anywhere, in anything. It's a pretty easy line to draw in the sand with very little nuance, and has always been my moral stance. The kid is 10, the thought shouldn't even cross anyone's mind. But do go on...

I am fine with literally anything else in media as a form of creative expression, except this. Even media intending to condemn and shed light on the topic (e.g is not really creative expression) has to tread very carefully.

I hope they draw a pair of big fat jiggling tits onto a literal fetus if that's what it takes to keep people like you out of the hobby. There's only one line, and it's between free speech and censorship. Everything else is sophistry.

Your mistake is thinking free speech is valuable and absolute in a world where over 50% of people are a delightful mix of utter retards, pedos, hacks, crooks, psychos and so forth. Free speech (especially social media) has played a big part in why the world is in such a sorry state right now, do you not see? We call it the clown world. Why? Because clowns now have a platform.

I want the free speech of sensible/intelligent/decent people protected, sure. I want everyone else given a chance, and if proven unfit, given a sentencing of 2 years penalty (in varying capacity), gag order at the very least, until they reassess their psychosis/retardation/mediocrity. This would include me, if I were to ever falter under this hypothetical rule.

The catch 22 is of course that this would be a difficult thing to fairly define and enforce, but again pedophillia is no-brainer to start with. It's wrong-think and I use that term unironically.

To truly fix the status quo and see progress, the internet would also be read-only until the age of 25 at the very least.

Hmm, Elona would be the top of my list. Not a traditional jrpg, but definitely japanese and, well...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9gOQxHX83E

Aside from that, the later Tales games are generally straight up pervert bait, 3000 year old children, swimsuits, etc. Major decline from it's roots.

For straight up weird, rather than degenerate... Chrono Cross is probably top of the pile. Half the characters are just some sort of LOL SO RANDOM insanity, vegetables, mushroom men, a 70's style little alien, literal clowns, luchadors, etc. And there's like 30 of them.

I haven't completed a jRPG since Final Fantasy 3 (USA title) when it first came out. I feel there is good stuff there (the music, the scope, the steampunk, the tragic heroes mourning over their murdered wives and children now haunted by their ghosts, etc; all cool jap shit). I have a collection of about 10 jRPGs in my DuckStation PSX emu that I feel should be playable to me judging by all the hoopla about them over the years but I just don't feel that extra push to play them yet. Still, that option of running them on their original platforms using modern 4K tech and sound instead of a bunch of cash grabbing remakes and ports to exploit the feeble weeabo brain is intriguing to me. Not a jRPG, but people say NEVER experience Metal Gear Solid 1 on anything but the Playstation 1 or its emus so yeah; I'll probably play that sooner than later to see where it all began; the entire stealth genre.

Etrian Odyssey 3-4-5 lets you make a team full of adult men if you want.
There's only 1-2-3 on Steam, still worth?
They're full of little girls too but at least they seem to be party-based, turn-based blobbers Wiz7 style, is that right?
I guess this is gonna be my entry point then.
You can't go wrong with EO but keep in mind that the games are extremely similar to each other, so if you play through EO 1 and immediately jump to EO 2, you might experience a strong feeling of deja vu. That's why I play these games like once a year.

I also played Romancing SaGa 2 not too long ago and it was great, kind of like a Japanese Pathfinder Kingmaker, but better. There's a remake coming soon, but I don't know if it's worth to play over the original.

Once you get acclimated a bit and if you enjoy Etrian Odyssey, I recommend giving Labyrinth of Touhou (2 in particular) a try. It might seem like extreme cringe at first, but it's worth it. It's basically a harder and more autistic EO, pure dungeon crawler with minimal story. All dialogue can be safely skipped.

Feel free to read my thesis on it.

Metal Gear Solid 1 is a cool game but not exactly the pinnacle of PSX accomplishment. It's a 5 hour long movie with 4 hours of ok gameplay. Look elsewhere beforehand, like Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, Castlevania: SotN, some survival horror such as Resident Evil/Silent Hill/Parasite Eve 2, hell even the Doom port was exceptional. PSX is chock-full of amazing classics. Also Tenchu came out before both MGS and Thief. That's where 3D stealth genre truly began, technically, and it just doesn't get its credit. The first 3 games are solid.

I guess I was thinking of the 2D Metal Gear games for the MSX2 system when I said this and not the birth of 3D stealth. I actually have Metal Gear 1 & 2 on my MGS HD collection for PS3 and was curious about them but, man, are those games homely.

It's not about "western" anything. I don't want western fantasy setting or aesthetics or western chiseled faces.

I was just wondering if there is a jRPG with characters who look more than 10 yo. I even posted a few examples in the OP.
Try Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI, which also have the best soundtracks of any JRPGs, despite the technical limitations of the Super NES/Famicom.

The fuck is wrong with this thread?

Chrono
Motherfucking
Trigger

The only Japaneseru RPG that's not full of anime fur faggotry (apart from maybe the frog).
Whilst Phantasy Star was giving players a wholesome, straight laced, CRPG/dungeon crawling influenced JRPG, Chrono Trigger was dropping gay shit like this on us...

One thing I vividly remember about Final Fantasy VI (III on the SNES) is the emotional impact of the character that sees the ghost of his wife and child one last time as they walk away, never to be seen again. It was just a tiny crude 2-frame animation of this little super-deformed character on my screen lowering his head but it packed a wallop, something I had never experienced before in any RPG or in any PC/video game, and the music complimented that perfectly. I had played Dragon Wars and PoR a couple of years earlier on my C64 but adding poignancy to an RPG was a new thing to me entirely. I think the japs tend to do this well in games and movies/series.

Play Xenogears: Might have a pretty boy protagonist depending on how you see him. Play and enjoy/endure the cutscenes - remember, you're hate-trying here (music is very good).

Shadow Tower: first person Kings Field combat RPG, nice a dark story, very minimal style that's very evoking of sadness and isolation. Has anime elements without going full into them. No kids, just an annoying ratguy. Slow combat and item degradation with limited cash economy that is love or hate. Might be good to load up your own appropriate music because the game has none.
