Studio Update March 2013
Update #44 - For backers only · Mar 31, 2013 · 1 comment

Hi, all!

We have a big update this month including an playable build of ch 1 alpha/beta which will be mailed out separately to qualified backers ($30 and up).
We'll have a video of our open house in the next week or so, and the rest of the info is below. Robert and I had a great time at the open house yesterday. It was lovely to meet our Kickstarter backers who were able to come!

Looks like the server's out or something, getting a 403 trying to download it. Whoops. Ah well, not a big rush in any case although I'm eager to try it.

Not a fan of the inventory system, so far, only got a chance to play a couple of minutes though.

even with stiff animations it looks a gazillion times better than DFA.

The russian-sounding guy in the trailer sounds like a dead ringer of General Rykov from AVP2.

The only message I get from this trailer is that Jane cannot into exciting trailers. And like every other trailer, it doesn't tell me anything at all about the game. :P

The stiff animations don't bother me, really.

Oh and since this has been brought up already, here's a related question:

Is it worth it to suffer through Gabriel Knight 2? I've tried starting it recently, but goddammit. I really, really, REALLY hate when dialogues have no subtitles and I have to sit tight, listening to all the gibberish. ESPECIALLY when the VA for Gabe is ANNOYING AS CRAP and the dialogues themselves are slow as molasses. I think I stopped playing after like 30 minutes or something because I just couldn't stomach all that horrible inconvenience.

Well, i like GB2 in its time, mainly thanks to its plot. But i don't think if i can handle it now, really requires patiance that one. Just play a bit more and it'll grow on you. (maybe :P)

I hated it at first coming from GK1 but ended up liking it, it's different but it's more adventure gamey than other fmv's like the Phantasmagorias. Although the amount of unskippable (if you want things to make sense) dialogue stays more or less the same through the game so it might not be worth it for you. Imo the Baron/Knight scenes kinda makes the fmv worth it, I don't think they would have had the same uh "impact" if they were computorz.

I barely remember GK2, though I know I finished it as a lad. All attempts to replay it have been met with OMG MY EYES reaction, but I might buckle down and get to it someday.

Never played 3. Never played Gray Matter.

1 is masterpiece etc. etc.

Well Gabriel Knight 3 has some very bad dialogue lines with even worse VO, plot was good(though reveals everything too early) but those killed the game for me.
Also very ugly in 3d.

I enjoy GK2 but it's mostly nostalgia talking here.
It's a bad game with a decent storyline.
I wouldn't recommend it.

I have wished and wished one of those remake adventure groups would remake GK2 back to the old 2D version like the first GK. :/

This.
I've never played any FMVs back in the day, and a few years ago, when I finally decided to play through Gabriel Knights, I gave up on 2 after just a few minutes. GODDAMN THIS IS FUCKING UGLY. FMVs dated worse than early-blocky 3D, and that is no small feat.

Oh god that trailer was dreadful. I'm not loosing hope for the game, but the trailer simply sucked. And the 3D models look really awkward, with huge shoulders and really thin/long arms.

Also am I the only one who heard the Russian guy say to the protagonist:

"...I've been asked to sleep with you, and that request came directly from the U.S. embassy..."

Like it too, replayed it last year. It seems to be a little too heavy oriented on dialogues, even for an adventure game. Or I probably forgotten due to newer generation of them. It's not ugly 3d engine, inventory items aren't in great numbers. I enjoyed a free trip to Bavaria, although the homosexual vibes weren't needed. Sometimes I wondered if Baron will ask Gabriel for a hot coffee.

Moebius looks ok, but as ghostdog I can't think how anybody would think that such a thin arms don't look a little freaky.

Is there an NDA for the alpha?

And I can totally understand the GK2 distaste. I played GK1 back in the day, but when I bought the sequel, it came with malfunctioning discs. I never got around to playing it until a few years ago, and yeah, it's a good game DESPITE the absolutely horrible engine. If it was done in GK1 style it would have been a masterpiece, perhaps even better than the first.

I have been unable to play GK3 for more than 10 minutes. Not only do I get severe glitches but the engine is just awful. The worst of any adventure game I've ever played. It makes the game actually unplayable to me - but so do the bugs such as having Gabriel walk through fucking walls for some reason and get stuck.

Just a note to not share screenshots or video of the alpha demo, at least in the email note about it.
