I thought we were discussing a game, and actually we were discussing a means of realization of nationalist wet dreams.
I really sympathize with Vavra but I can't help being skeptical about this being fun to play as an open-world game. I've explained why, and also why I think M&B's approach is the best.

I had already a lot of fun with the alpha. The best part was the investigation part, like the alchemy system.

Czechs should do a full disclosure about their country of origin before each post so I don't have to read it. This insane level of patriotic fanboyism is getting old rather quickly.

That's funny. Mostly because I am not Czech. :kwafuckyeah:

P.S. I guess I could be sorta Czech if we elect Trump and he annexes the Czech Republic after a severe bout of indigestion and renames it to East California or something.

Huh. That place has the exact same book layout as my local Waterstones. Probably even has the tables near the door stacked with hack "Fantasy" novels all with names ripped off Game of thrones for a title.

I don't give a damn about the setting in that I'm not for or against it, but I don't mind it being set in Bohemia from a learning perspective since I don't know much in detail about it and wouldn't mind encouraging me to look it up more as I play.

The Czechs had Kafka and Kundera, but they both left them.

I am still grateful though.

Man the combat looks really stupid in this game at the moment.
It sort of does. It's worrying. It looks like they have the basics for it down but what really happens in the game doesn't look good. I wish they could get rid of all the clipping, too. It's still really early, too, so they have a chance to make it good. Maybe it plays better than it looks. Either way it's not too bad to prevent me from trying it out.

I think it will always look a bit stupid since they're basing the combat on historical fencing and not people actually fighting to the death with various implements. But what bothers me, besides janky animations/lack of feedback and gore which can be attributed just to the early state of the game with everything being placeholder, is the weightlessness of the blows.

The damage model also looks stupid but I guess that is just tweaking numbers.

I'm so torn about it. I agree it doesn't look too appealing and for me personally is not that fun to play.

Thing is the game was pitched and funded as an authentic medieval RPG with authentic swordfighting. And HEMA fans like it. Dunno, I guess it's like a medieval equivalent of Arma - a game for a specific audience and it's important that audience likes it, not the mass market.

Naah, the combat looks great. The best I've seen so far in an action-RPG (I don't consider Severance or DBTS rpg's).
But I will have to play it myself to fully judge it.

If they fill the world with some meaningful content, it might be the game I have always longed for.

By the way, I know it's actually pretty realistic but is anyone else bothered by how sunny and bright and colourful it is? I guess my brain is fucked up from all the Dark Souls or something. It will take some getting used to.

I like the lighting Cryengine has. It looks / feels quite realistic even compared to compared to UE. If it's really realistic is a different question of course. On a monitor, we generally prefer a style resembling photography to "real realism". If you don't like it, you probably can just SweetFX the game to your liking.

The game is going for realism, not style.

I understand the intent it's just that I'm not used to it.

This. So far the lightning is the best thing about the game, especially compared to the fucking abomination CDPR used in TW2 and TW3.

The game is going for realism.
Then why are the developers basing the combat on martial arts?

What. Do you even know what that term means?
