There were no CGA days for the true gamers. First, the C64, Amstrad, and Apple II era,and yes zx spectrum, then quite soon the Amiga and Atari with gorgeous games featuring 16-32 colors on a palette of 4096 colors. Some even had music composed by award-winning musicians, while most PCs were still using the rather fugly CGA and EGA.

I liked this guy's previous games, but holy shit why is everything so oppressively purple here? I might be misremembering Alvora/Voidspire but I played Horizon's Gate pretty recently, and judging by trailer this looks like a massive downgrade in terms of visuals.

Still gonna play it tho, of course.

Don't really get the dislike for the palette here. It's interesting, eye-catching, and fits the nature of the setting. I actually like the direction he took with the character models too. They have a much more distinct style than the prior games. The models do look a bit better when the camera is zoomed out though, which I wish the player could control, rather than it only being present in certain scenes.

I don't mind pixel art as long as it reaches at least a 16bit level. The NES/C64 palette is ugly and shouldn't be replicated, IMO (looking at you, Shovel Knight).

This game looks richer than Voidspire, which was comparatively plain. But the color choices are irksome to some people.

Atrocious color palette. That's a barrier to even wanting to look at it, let alone play it. The music also does not jive with the game's genre, pacing, or setting. To the memory hole with it!
