I just checked it out (didn't DL it) and it's amusing the the guy who leaked declared that this is now the property of the community or some such rot.

I mean shit, I don't agree with how Team Gizka has chosen to do this, but that's just such a fucking dick-move. They've worked on it a long time, they should release it when they're ready or not at all. Now we have this tard releasing their work, that is unfinished to boot.

Yeah, score another one for Internet heroes.

Woops, seems like it's a Public Beta.

oh yeah sure. well it isn't.
simply because there is no thread about it on TG forums and Windu already said what he thought about the beta leakage.

I will still wait until they will implement all content though (if they will after this). one thing is unfixed bugs - but the other one is the lack of restored content so this beta is useless.
there is a TG fault though as well, not just the fault of impatient, even if they (TG) weren't doing anything bad themselves. but almost 1.5 months without a new beta version for beta-testers unfortunately did the job.
the consequences however may be harsh. C&C, bitches.

Why are you happy about it? Come on, explain. 1.08 still has bugs. This will only serve to piss Team Gizka off. You shouldn't be happy, you should be pissed off. Unless you're some sort of leech.

People, don't download this. it isn't finished. according to Darth Windu's post here: http://www.rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic ... &start=255 1.0b8 still has broken Droid Factory and several other bugs that will break a gaming experience for you.
also from some earlier threads on TG forums it appears that older saves won't work with the newer TSLRP versions.

also about the possible leak of the beta (posted a week ago or so):
"Hope it doesn't happen. The team has spend a huge amount of time and effort on this project. It's close to completion, but it's not there yet. The last thing I would want is people getting their hands on the beta, thinking its the real deal, and then being disappointed because of the state it's in." - DarthWindu

Personally I doubt this is even the real dea. IF it is, and I stress IF, then both gamorck/jaylittle and anyone downloading this is partially responsible for the destruction of the modding community for KotOR. Show some respect people - IF this is the beta, choose not to download it. Not only because it most likely would have been obtained via identity theft, not only because of the years of hard work put into it, but also because you WILL be disappointed in the beta, IF it is real.

Either way, the TSLRP is NOT for distribution to the general public. As the team has mentioned many times in the past, it is still in the beta stage to fix bugs and make the whole experience playable.

I kinda hope he'll be so pissed off he does the autistic thing: delete fucking everything so it's never released. I know I would. Scum.

edit: You're right, skyway, my fault.

For the record: We've had this thing for weeks. We've played through a good chunk of it though not all of it. In it's current state, the game is much more complete than it ever was in it's original form. The experience thus far has been infinitely more enjoyable than past play throughs.

Lets be honest though - the TSLRP project is dying a slow death. Darth Windu can argue this point all he wants, but the beta testers aren't testing and the developers are for the most part not putting a whole lot of time into development. Not to mention the Beta Testers have very little motiviation to push for a release since they've already gotten what they wanted: A complete version of TSL. Prior to the Closed Beta releases, there were months of inactivity on the part of Team Gizka. We firmly believe they used the Closed Beta release as a way to motivate themselves into finishing the project. Based on the level of activity recently, it clearly hasn't worked. The responsibility for this clearly falls in part to the closed beta testers as they clearly haven't spent a whole lot of time on the project.

With this release, we have ensured that this project will one day be completed. Whether or not TG fizzles out is no longer a concern. Using the resources installed with this mod in addition to the source code provided as a free download on Team Gizka's site for 1.0b8 allows anybody to begin writing code and extending the mod. It should also be possible to download the updated nss files from TGs site when future releases like 1.0b9 come out and integrate those changes directly into this installation regardless of whether or not an updated installer is leaked.

In summary, this mod now truly belongs to the community. Not just a bunch of guys who would occasionally put in a few minutes of testing or development here or there and then go off and spend their time doing something else. It is now up to the community to pick where TG has left off. Of course the hope here is that now there has been a release, TG will see the sense in open sourcing further development and involve the community as a whole. More than likely however TG will either close up shop or tighten up their group.

Also just in case any of you were wondering, I personally received this installer from a nameless source. Apparently that person also received it from another nameless individual. Somewhere down the line there is rumored to be at least one beta tester identified as the source. This thing has been floating around in private since it's closed beta release in mid May. I was tasked with making a proper release of it this week in order to fulfill my commitment to the team. I have now done so.

As for this not being finished, its about 98% done. Don't take too many of Darth's comments seriously as he himself has admitted that he has not played through the mod in the last several builds. We noticed a few annoyances, nothing major yet. However we have not made it to the droid factory as of yet, but since that is what we consider optional content, it can be overlooked for the time being.

I dont understand why I shouldnt be happy about this leaked version. I never bothered anyone for it. For past 3 years I've patiently waited (observing week by week how bug count was going down to 700 issues and the up when new issues arised). Now that the wait is over you tell me to ignore the occasion to finally see what TSL is really about? Man, I didnt even read that lets play thread which you linked everytime you were discussing KOTOR 2. Even if it is unfinished I will take my chances.

It's amusing how he says the mod is about 98% done, and yet mentions that they haven't even made it to the droid factory yet. But hey, even if the droid factory will be buggy, it doesn't matter for now cause it's optional content. Wow.

Impressive!

After reading the TBP comments: It's funny that Darth Windu apparently believes that without TG, there would be no KOTOR modding community. Rather I would think that without the modding community, there would be no TG. It's also amusing how I'm being blamed for this leak in his comments. Great stuff there. The little mentions of identity theft really add a nice touch as well.

EDIT: Removed leaker comments as they have already been posted more than once.

I have to agree with these words however - but in the meaning that this actually was the reason. a 1.5 months hole in which beta-testers waited for 1.0b9 which still didn't arrive - the lack of a motivation as a result. and here we have what we have.

well if I was a part of TG I wouldn't disband a beta-team if I still wished for the project to live. disbanding beta-team = too much time to gather a new one. better continue to fix bugs. though I now imagine TGs wish to do that when their forum will get flooded by the reports about bugs from new "open-beta testers"

I guess we will all know soon enough. Either way I think the leaker is right, there is no need to worry about it anymore. One way or another TSLRP will be completed whether TG gets off their rears and does it or the modding community for KOTOR takes it up now that they have everything they need to do so.

I've been waiting to purchase KOTOR 2 PC until this mod's done, but I'm downloading the beta just in case this gets canceled like you say. Knowing modders, that would be par for the course.

Jasede? What's wrong with you, man?

I really don't see what the big deal is here.

Side 1: You fags aren't entitled to shit, get over yourselves.

Side 2: Oh well! Someone released your non-profit game early. Sky is falling! :eyeroll:

Anyways cat is out of the bag now, should probably grab it if you want it because mod teams have a tendency to explode over the stupidest shit.

Well, it would sure suck if Gizka will quite due to this, and RP will not be finished.

However, the leak was predicted many times already, and was just a matter of when.

Cannot play right now anyway, but if Gizka will decide to take offence and stop their work (sounds like an easy cop-out, though) - I guess that'll do for me...

I just enjoy getting angry! :)
But really, it's not really fair to Team Gizka, I think. Being a Beta-Tester is a trust thing and I find it a little sad some would violate that. I know it happens all the time, but still. I wonder what Blizzard would do if someone leaked the Diablo 3 alpha? They'd hire assassins I guess.

That'd be kinda cool.

I'm not surprised that I finished a playthrough a week ago and started another one with finishing Peragus(Murphy's law). Thought I could handle Peragus for a 3rd time but bashing robots and looting "plasteel cilinders" for an hour just drove me nuts.

Luckily recently I've started another playthrough but I've managed only to acomplish Telos station. Here goes Peragus once more!

I find it amusing that Mr. Jason 'Jay' Little is referring to the leaker in the third person, since the leaked beta initially came from the user darkgamorck, whose email address was jaylittle@....com.

You want to ask the leak about the motivations? Ask him.
