The German cover of Jagged Alliance 2 called itself "Ein Strategiespiel mit Rollenspiel-Elementen", a strategy game with RPG elements; though more properly, it should be called a tactics game rather than strategy.

You don't get to question the part you don't like while referring to the other as if it were a word from God. Either you swallow the "Strategiespiel", or the way it called itself ain't worth shit.

Can't think of a single good reason why it wouldn't be an rpg, a great one at that.

The English box says "Roleplaying Strategy" rather than "Strategy with Roleplaying Elements". On that basis, I put Jagged Alliance 2 threads in GRPG.

The only halfway convincing argument I've heard for saying JA2 is not an RPG is "it's too good". I can accept that :smug:

We had a comprehensive argument over the RPG-ness of JA2 a little while ago. The outcome was: people who tend to play with a stable party perceive it as an RPG, people who constantly rotate their squad usually don't.

What about people who like to blow their own party up?

So people who rotate their party in Baldur's Gate 1 (which is definitely possible considering the amount of recruitable party members in that game) don't consider it an RPG?

That's fair. I can accept JA2 not being an RPG if BG1 isn't, either.

In Pillars of Eternity you can create new party members and thus drastically change your crew in every act/during every quest.

So, I can accept JA2 is not a rpg if BG and PoE aren't either.
