I always liked how Harold gets mad when you insist on asking about Grey and what happened to him.

WTF ?!?! Well, I would personally reload. But thats not how you do LPs. And goddamn, deathclaws in fallout were that tough ? I remember they were only moderately challenging in FO2 (and not challenging at all in Capital Wasteland).

Yeah, deathclaws in the original Fallout were mean fuckers indeed. If you hadn't raised your combat skills enough that you could get a somewhat reliable hit in on eyes or legs, you were in for some serious hurt.

Loving this LP.

I was a Heavy Weapons guy on my first play through of Fallout. While the choice was a bit of an embarrassment, (given how quickly Miniguns run out of ammo), I killed the Deathclaw after two rockets and a Critical Hit with a Minigun. But that was part luck, given the Critical. I usually had my butt handed to me in first time play through fights.

Large non-human enemies are easy if you are Heavy Weapons or Energy Weapons specialist. If you are Meelee, Unarmed, or Small Guns, you will face a very very long fight. In RK47's playthrough Ian, Brian, Tycho, and Dogmeat have done enough damage to kill seven in the game by now, and the Deathclaw isn't dead.

As for how to defeat the current fight:

The shotgun is a bad weapon. I would personally use either a Combat Shotgun or a Sniper Rifle, which can be purchased from

15 - Raise Your Fists

It's too strong. I...we have to escape. Now. But this thing's too fast. We can't possibly outrun it.
01.jpg

Why do I keep missing those shots? Harold said something about hypnotic eyes, but that's impossible! Maybe I'm just not good enough with guns. What if..
ian.jpg
Brian, if you have an idea you better do it now...it's deciding on who to eat next!

It's all I got. The arm is a natural extension of the body, I should be able to score more hits IF I'm lucky.
ian.jpg
Brian, why aren't you taking the shot? Holy shit man!

I put on the spiked knuckles.
02.jpg

ian.jpg
You've got to be kidding me...

Hands shivering, I reached out for the Buffout on my pants pockets and swallowed a dosage. I feel my muscle tightening..
03.jpg

There, my hits should hit a little harder.
04.jpg

Dogmeat continues his assault on the Deathclaw, but it seems futile. The beast's hide is too thick for Dogmeat's bite to penetrate.
05.jpg

Ian tries his luck. And scores a good hit.
06.jpg

Dogmeat took several hard hits and he's on his last legs. It's my turn to turn the tide. Somehow.
07.jpg

The eyes..go for the..
08.jpg

Got you!
09.jpg

The creature seems stunned momentarily, otherwise, there's no visible damage, no blood even. It turns its gaze towards me, growling deeply as it stretches out its enormous claws.
10.jpg

The impact knocks me off of my feet. I land with a thud, backside first. I scramble to get up.
11.jpg

Gotta stop the bleeding...gotta...
12.jpg

A second dosage under 24 hours..but who gives a shit. At this point, anything goes.
13.jpg

I jam the syringe on my right arm and the last thing I felt was the slight sting from the needle. Then, nothing.
ian.jpg
Brian, we're going to make it man. Hang in there!

Ian pulls his trigger, taking care not to go full automatic.
14.jpg

The deathclaw shrugged his 10mm bullet and swung another mighty blow at me. My eyes close before the impact, fear starting to overtake me.
15.jpg

There's no pain. But the blood stains says I won't hold a good hit from the beast. Let's...do it again...this time on its...
16.jpg

Missed.
17.jpg

ian.jpg
God damn it, Brian. Pull out a gun and shoot the damn thing!

vd.jpg
I...unf!
18.jpg

vd.jpg
Keep shooting, Ian..I'll draw his attention.

Blood loss. Gotta replace the plasma. I jam two more stims, just to buy some more time. The creature knows I can't kill it.
19.jpg

With a little luck, maybe Ian will go full auto on this son of a bitch and take it down with me...Another claw attack and I was rooted to the spot. He puts me down like sack of potatoes.
20.jpg

ian.jpg
Fuck, Brian! Get up!
vd.jpg
No ..pain..no..more.

The psycho's working...is it? It probably is, Brian. But you won't win like this.
vd.jpg
Wha- get out of my head.
ian.jpg
Brian! Get up! It's right over you, goddamn it!
vd2.jpg
I wouldn't worry, Ian. It's not his turn yet.
ian.jpg
Brian, can you get up?
vd2.jpg
I'm sorry, Ian. Brian is dead. There is only...Vince.

I stand up, wiping the blood off my mouth.

vd2.jpg
The effectiveness of close combat is largely determined by the unarmed skill percentage. The high level that we start with, enables us to master it in a short time, if enough points are spent training it.
ian.jpg
The fuck?
21.jpg

vd.jpg
The enemy stands before me, bloodied. Of the original 225 hit points it starts with, we've already taken more than half. The debt will be repaid.
22.jpg

23.jpg

vd2.jpg
I will take your eyes.
24.jpg

25.jpg

26.jpg

27.jpg

vd2.jpg
Come and get me. By spending all your action points on movement, you've expanded all your armor class bonus and is easier to hit.
28.jpg

vd2.jpg
That was a nice blow. But not enough to take me down.
29.jpg

vd.jpg
Can you feel it? Your death draws near.
30.jpg

vd2.jpg
Die.

You should add blood spatters to make it seem more like another generic fps.

About Ian shooting you in your back with the SMG
I'm not sure if this a spoiler but do you realize you can give the followers any small arms? You could just give him a Desert Eagle or 14mm Pistol instead

Let's make this very clear:

Equipment suggestions and all, are okay. Just don't tell me any plot in advance or 'hey don't miss out on this good side quest that Brian ...err Vince can't possibly be aware about.

16 - Rise of the Mutants

ian.jpg
Holy fuck, Brian. That was awesome!
vd2.jpg
I told you, I'm not him. Anyway, say hi to Brian, for me. *Wipes the blood from his face*

The blackness starts to clear...and I found myself standing over the bloodied corpse of the deathclaw.
01.jpg

vd.jpg
Wha...what happened?
ian.jpg
You just made some tomato ketchup out of deathclaw meat. Welcome back, Brian. I thought we've lost you.
vd.jpg
I...I did that?

I raised my right knuckle, noticing the amount of blood on the spikes. I can't suppress the shivering.
vd.jpg
Shit, I forgot. Tycho!

He's gone. There's nothing I can do for him. His shotgun lay next to him, he must've shot the beast pretty bad, that's why it went after him first. I should've given him a dose of Psycho...
02.jpg

ian.jpg
There's nothing you could've done, Brian. You've saved me and the dog. You should take his equipment, at least. Tycho would've wanted that.
vd.jpg
Yeah...I know. I'm sorry.

I my palm over his lifeless eyes and gently push it close for one last time.
03.jpg

vd.jpg
Thank you. Tycho.

A slight groan caught my attention. The mutant! I rushed over to the hulking body, hoping to hear him speak.
04.jpg

vd.jpg
Hey! Are you still alive?!

I knelt over the mutant, examining him. Pale green skin...abnormally large muscles....
05.jpg

vd.jpg
Who are you?
mutant.jpg
I, I'm...I can't remember...Was the leader of...it...Maybe my holodisk.

The mutant weakly hands me a bloody holodisk.

vd.jpg
Where did you come from?
mutant.jpg
We...we were scouting for primes...came from...came from the Northwest.

It's just like what Harold said...
vd.jpg
What are primes? Who sent you?
mutant.jpg
Father...Where are you father?...Yes Master...

The mutants breathes his last breath and dies.
vd.jpg
Damn!
ian.jpg
Holy shit. Harold wasn't kidding.
vd.jpg
I ... I didn't expect the mutants to be like this. Was Harold mutation...imperfect?

A careful search of the dead mutant's body yields a radio set.
06.jpg

vd.jpg
This might still be in working condition.

I carefully place the radio into my pack and plug in the holodisk into my PipBoy, hoping the blood doesn't mess up the data upload.
07.jpg

Fortunately, the data is intact.
08.jpg

vd.jpg
This is bad...

Ian peers over my shoulder.
ian.jpg
Holy crap, they sound like a military outfit.
vd.jpg
They're the ones behind the missing caravans. But why? Non-mutated are 'primes'?
ian.jpg
We better warn Butch. The rest of the Hub is also in danger. Hell, once they cut down the trade from the Hub, the whole Wastelands will die a slow death.
vd.jpg
Yeah, let's go.

We gave Tycho a final salute before leaving the cave.
09.jpg

vd.jpg
Farewell, Ranger. It's been nice knowing you.

11.jpg

vd.jpg
I think I may have figured out what's been happening to the missing caravan.
rutger.gif
That's great! Go tell Butch what you've found and he'll let me know if you've earned your reward.
12.jpg

vd.jpg
It was Mutants.
butch.jpg
What, do I look a crate shy of a load? Did you even see the Death Claw?
vd.jpg
Been there, saw that, killed it.
butch.jpg
You....you killed it? Well...I..uh...um..uh, where did these mutants come from?
vd.jpg
I don't know yet. But they have an outpost somewhere in the northwest.
butch.jpg
An outpost? Well...um..well uh. I'll have to talk to the Committee. Yeah...yeah, they'll know what to do. Done and done. Get out, cause I got stuff to do...okay?
vd.jpg
Fine.

We return to Rutger to collect our payment.
13.jpg

vd.jpg
Actually, it was a group of these HUGE mutants.
rutger.gif
Some huge mutants are destroying my caravans? That's almost as good as this Deathclaw story.
vd.jpg
Listen, pal. My friend is dead, and so is that son of a bitch Deathclaw. You want the coordinates to the cave? There's three bodies in there, my friend, a deathclaw and a mutant. And here, check this holodisk.
rutger.gif
Hey, I know how to use one of those. Butch got some gizmo from some scout from the Brotherhood a long time ago that can read these things. Let's see...

By the time he was done, the look on his face tells the whole story.
rutger.gif
Sorry for not believing you. This...does not bode well for the good guys. Well, here's your 500 caps. Hell, make it 800, and thanks for the information! If you need any more work you will always be welcome.
vd.jpg
Not at the moment. I'm leaving on the 17th. And I could use a break.

I visit Beth's shop and bought myself a metal armor for protection.
14.jpg

It's really, really heavy. But with the Mutant threat around, you can never be too careful.
15.jpg

vd.jpg
Ian, I want you to take these.
16.jpg

ian.jpg
Huh? What for?
vd.jpg
Don't be daft, man. I want you to stay alive. I don't want that to happen again.
ian.jpg
Alright, I'll take 'em, Brian. But I'm sure you'll bail us out of trouble again. Or maybe Vince will.
vd.jpg
What...did you say?
ian.jpg
I said 'Vince.' That's what you called yourself when you made ketchup in that cave, remember?
vd.jpg
No...I...ARGH! My head-
ian.jpg
Brian?!

The pain...what's going on? My breathing...it's...oh no..

Great LP! It's a wonder that only one got killed after this disastrous start. I would have reloaded too but it brings some more drama in the story. And the mad numbercrunching Vince-Hulk was hilarious

I want to see Ian at the finish of the game, although that's unlikely.

Is there a mod that improves npc management and levelling in Fallout 1?

RK47 is de true LP mastah :salute:

Great LP indeed.

loololol this game is stupid as fuck. The party member don't even level up with you. Stupid interplay, they deserve to die like Origin. Only to be reborn as Bethesda newest facebook spyware like Origin does.

2013 - Fallout IV : Children of Atom - You must login to Interplay in order to Play Fallout. :smug:

Awww Tycho :(

Oh well, we barely knew him anyway. And admittedly perhaps he wouldn't have survived anyway, but it is pretty much Ian and his usual SMG clumsiness that kills him.

Ian SMG to the back count - 2

I think Dogmeat should get more lines.

A Fallout NPC mod would be great for allowing them to wear the best armour in the game. That way, they won't die all the time.
