The Diablo series is far from the most autistic example of that type of game. I mean, D3 dumbed it down to "Number is green = Betterer".

In order to enjoy games like SS and JA2, you need to be deeply, fundamentally in love with numbers, and I'm not at all. Even if you were in love with numbers, you could still never really call them RPGs, but I hate the semantics discussions.

The player needs to know only basic math to play them. Which yeah, counts you out.

As for Diablo ... much of it is driven by RNG

That's the best part. No playthrough is the same. They all tell an individual story. The RNG in Diablo represents one its most monocled factors, in that it isn't soullessly RNG.

But retarded faggots like you need to be comforted knowing you'll definitely get that +10 Hackmaster (+20 vs. Evil).

it's just a one huge exercise in tedium.

Git gud, scrub.

Lilura do you play any roguelikes?

Grimwulf recommended me a few, including Dwarf Fortress. But unlike Diablo, I felt that the RNG was soulless. And the aesthetics are non-existent. I find the visual texture of Diablo, and its soundscape, to be as mesmerizing as its game-play.

So you're also a graphics whore.
The "RNG" in DF is anything but soulless, evidenced by the fact that there are dozens upon dozens of funny and interesting stories to be found about its world generation. Something which no other game has yet managed to replicate.

Wouldn't go that far. My preference is API era and >=16 bit color with nice-looking sprites, serviceable animations and VFX (Diablo). Bonus points for isometric tactical view with smooth scrolling (Diablo).

As a rule, Diablo and Fallout are my cut-off points.

Don't start crying, please. I'm not bad-mouthing the game. All I'm saying is that its RNG didn't appeal to me at the time I played it.

NOW HOLD ON THERE I KNOW RPGS AND I SAY DIABLO IS AN RPG.

C&C? Try this: level 3 Sorcerer, down in the second floor, see a big ominous room with what looks like tons of dead bodies.

Defining a RPG by ticking boxes for individual mechanics and ignoring the de facto gameplay is like trying to guess what a recipe is by the browsing the list of ingredients when you already have the dish ready on the table and you can look at it and taste it.

Diablo is not the deepest RPG, certainly not the most mechanically interesting one, and it's claim to fame has more to do with dopamine and loot drops than anything else, but it is a RPG nonetheless.

BTW, Lilura have you played Spellforce 3? What is your take on RTS/RPG hybrids?

Kalin , what is "a poz kit" in the context you recently employed the term?

Shameless advertisement for a shit games (i.e. pozzed, supposedly gay slang for being HIV-positive). Companies peddle their own pre-written shill pieces called press kits (complete with screenshots etc.) which soulless creeps like Infinitron then copy-paste while pretentiously calling the process "news posting". Back in the day such "journalism" was laughed at on the Codex, now it defines the site. Press kit whore Infinitron actually takes it even further, adding direct buy-links to Steam and GoG for the abominations. Real straight shooter that one, go-getter with upper management written all over him.

What's interesting is that it's possible, even probable depending on quest RNG, that warriors can reach the 9th of 16 dungeons without finding notable arms and armor. And I actually deem the RNG to be too stingy, as laid out in my recently updated retrospective (which is in progress: link).

Don't have a take on that subgenre. I only commentate on RPGs upon which I am an authority.

Archery is a difficult skill to master. When I was Diabloing I find that my unconditional support of my friends and my boyfriend helped me in many ways. I sometimes felt alone with an Eldritch terror touching me where Epstein once touched the soul of a child. Older men are very British in many ways, sometimes offering wares in the form of trinkets.

The simple fact that someone is able to write "in-depth" commentary on a game like Diablo, thoroughly steeped in RNG and suitable for nothing more than entertaining anecdotes with friends over a beer, in other words "paying way too much attention to insignificant details and general minutiae", no matter what the subject matter may be, is a very clear indication of actual autism.

As for Diablo, any Diablo or any of its clones, spending time with those games beyond a casual run through to see the locations, enemies and pretty spells, is usually a sign of autism
Very uncool dude.
Why you gotta call me autistic and shit?

Why would you expect anything different from Infinitron though?

Sweeper I guess it's ok if you use it as comfort gaming food, just don't act like it's one of the greatest games ever made.

Putting Diablo in any "top RPG list" is a travesty. Whatever its merits, the game qualifies as very mediocre RPG and the damage it has done to the genre is profound and irreversible. Should I quote Interplay demand to turn Fallout into a RT multiplayer game?

Diablo didn't inflict any dmg on the genre. It was just so good, such a masterpiece, that almost every RPG wanted to be like it. Or at least, replicate some of its peerless systems, artistic flair and coding prowess.

All failed. And to this day, a full quarter of a century later, Diablo still stands as a mighty monolith, casting a long shadow over them all.

Stop denying inarguable greatness. It makes you look like a butthurt retard.

Call it what you want. Fact is, you are naught but a shitposter lost in the shuffle, and unread.
