While I never felt the need to read her blog, I find the absence of this kind of people diminishing. Eccentrics are vital for keeping things fun. Society without eccentrics in which everyone is correct and proper doesn't deserve to exist. Luckily there's still Cleve.

Lilura, you should definitely come back and keep telling us how authoritative your stand on some issue is and how this or that game shouldn't be played because JA2 is better.

There is a difference between being eccentric and being a narcissitic piece of shit.

I see what you mean, but I'd say it's debatable.

And noone said eccentrics necessarily make for pleasant company. But to see these threads, even when it's narcissistic obsessing over google search results, is very amusing. As long as I'm free to read it at my leisure and don't have to literally live with her (him?), I say bring it on. Maybe the trick is not to get bogged down debating, but to sit back and try to enjoy the (anti)aesthetics.

After extensive reading i've found an answer ta all-important question. Is JA2 a CRPG? Lo and behold.

Lilura: It's almost an insult to call Jagged Alliance 2, X-COM and X-COM: Apocalypse RPGs. They're genre-transcending masterpieces. At bottom, and as a rule, I consider the RPG genre to be a laughing stock. It's why I named my blog after myself, without adding in "RPG". I don't intend to limit my commentary to such an embarrassing genre.

It's glorious. He obviously should've add RPG to his blog's title. To pose oneself as an asian ladyboy-Empress-of-Cambodia takes some roleplaying skills, I reckon.

Lilura's blog certainly attracts some high-quality morons

While travelling is an issue, you need to find the right vendor whom will buy you 2-5 articles (in quantity !)

The trading system is a joke and the crafting system too because you need to hoard things you can't carry.

You don't have any companion, travelling is a pain, as i already stated.

It tried too hard to create more builds (psionic and chemist) we didn't need while not delivering what we really need.

This game is going to be forgotten soon enough, luckily, nice try though.

Seriously?

Also the Shrine of the Three quest that a bunch of people hate because Owlcat interpreted "force the player into turn based combat and make it tactical" in a weird way.

Act V's return to the Old Sarkorian Mines is one big homage to Fallout: the underground bunker dwellers of Mineshaft 14 all wear the same blue overalls as their forefathers, have only been forced back out into the open by the failure of their water supply, and the mine is sealed with a vault door in the shape of a rolling stone cog with Golarian numerals in the center. Their foreman is a bearded old man named Jarocen; the name of Vault 13's Overseer, given in concept art, is Jacoren. One of the oldest survivors from before the mine was sealed recently died, a druid who had a tree growing out of his head, like the old ghoul Harold in the Hub; the druid's tree is still growing out of his grave even after his death. Finally, the fight at the Shrine of the Three is a mandatory turn-based battle, and while not locked to an actual hex grid, the central chamber is in the shape of a giant hexagon, divided up by chest-high walls and daises also in the shape of hexes.
did they nerf it btw? Caused a lot of seething at release

Sweet!

Not that I read too many blogs. I was reading CRPGaddict a lot then started posting here. My CRPGAddict posts or reading drooped to near zero unless someone posts a link.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Lilura was a quality poster and I do wish she stuck around. My main problem was her questionable taste and her obvious bias and logical inconsistencies when it came to her favorite games. You can't tout yourself as some gaming aficionado with all the right opinions, and then turn around and spout off some fanboy bullshit that makes no sense.

Lilura isn’t wrong. Saying you “like RPGs” in any sort of general company will cause all sorts of implied associations that are anything but the games specifically enjoyed by her.

This is especially true within a group of people who consider themselves “rpg fans”, saying you enjoy cRPGs will (1) prompt confusion at the “c”, and (2) draw immediate associations with Bethesda, BioWare, Ubisoft and EA trash - the antitheses of the types of games I (and coincidentally Lilura) cherish.

The overall genre is a dumpster fire of cringe, beloved by reprehensible examples of the human condition. Select company excluded, of course ;)

JA2 is overrated garbage and lilura is a man.

I really really miss Lilura
No you don't, you're just saying that to look like you play games.

There is a difference between being eccentric and being a narcissitic piece of shit.
No, there really isn't. The only difference is the perception of people who hate the eccentric for whatever reason (burnt feefees).
