That's true. However, what we saw was an Intimidate check. Yesh, it was grossly over-simplified, I absolutely agree there. However, it's entirely possible that the non-Paragon/Renegade dialogue is actually longer.

Like maybe it has three lines.

No, the red XTREME options are simply Force mind control while the blue paragon options are Force persuade.
In 9 out of 10 cases it goes like this
NPC: That's what I believe, I've been developing my philosophy for 200 hundred years
Paragon Shep: You're wrong
XTREME Shep: FUCK THAT SHIT YO
NPC: Oh Shep, thanks to you I have seen the light, you're totally right!

t.jpg
All that infighting, seeing what my father did... You were the only one for me, Shepard -- the only cover I had against that storm. Thank you.

s.jpg
I imagine they're trying to fill your father's spot on the Admiralty Board. What will that do to the balance of power?

t.jpg
I have no idea. Being exiled might have made it easier. A few people are suggesting me as candidate. Replacing an admiral takes time, though. You may not have noticed, but quarians like to debate.

I'm glad you used the word 'debate', Tali. We wouldn't want a race of Andhairans as allies. Also, foreshadowing of Tali being relegated to background character role as Admiral of the Fleet. A lot of Shepard's current companions hold key positions and noted backgrounds in their respective organizations, it's not far-fetched to expect them being delegated into non-recruitable NPC role in the trilogy completion.

s.jpg
Are quarian politics always like that?

t.jpg
No. Sometimes it can actually get unpleasant. We're a very social people, Shepard. We have to be, to make up for being stuck in these suits. And part of that means getting involved in each other's business.

s.jpg
The whole trial was insulting. You should have had time to mourn your father.

t.jpg
I don't think life is about what you deserve. But my father would be honored that I chose to mourn him by blowing up a lot of get. I should get back to work. But thanks for checking up on me.

Unfortunately, we forgot to clean up the shuttle research data, or blow it up. It's a plot hole. How do you clear a dead man's name when you left a trail of evidence behind? Writer's error, ahoy. I wasn't presented with a choice to delete evidence anyway. We were withholding it...and here's the consequences?

02.jpg

Oh cool, more geth to blow up. Let's hope Zaeed makes it to sequel for Disruptor Ammo. Speaking of that merc, let's clear his unfinished business in Zorya.

03.jpg

04.jpg

05.jpg

Doc Mordin is a solid choice when facing primarily humanoid foes. Tear down the shield with Disruptor Ammo, then burn them with Incinerate!

z.jpg
Tapping into Blue Suns comms. Stay tight, and look out for ambushes.

06.jpg

z.jpg
Shot in the back and left to rot. That's definitely Vido's style.

07.jpg

We picked up some resistance, but they pulled out once casualties start to mount on their side.

08.jpg

z.jpg
Vido. Sounds like he hasn't changed.

s2.jpg
Sounds like he needs to get shot.

z.jpg
Glad to see you and I agree. I knew he was a sadistic bastard when we started the Blue Suns. The Suns only got meaner after he staged his little coup twenty years ago. So, yeah. We have a past.

s2.jpg
Why didn't anyone tell me you founded the Blue Suns?

z.jpg
Because it's not common knowledge. Vido wiped me out the records. He ran the books, I led the men. Worked real well for a while. Then Vido decided to start hiring batarians. Cheaper labor, he said. Goddamn terrorists, I said.

s2.jpg
Twenty years is a long time to hold a grudge.

z.jpg
A grudge? *glares*

09.jpg

z.jpg
For twenty years, I've seen that bastard every time I closed my eyes. Every time I sighted down on a target. Every time I heard a gunshot. Don't you call that a goddamned "grudge".

s2.jpg
You survived a gunshot to the head?

z.jpg
Yeah. And you survived your ship getting disintegrated. A stubborn enough person can survive just about anything. Rage is a hell of an anesthetic.

10.jpg

11.jpg

The enemy outnumbered Zaeed at least 5 to 1. His enemies are so dead.

You can berate him here or just go with the flow, action movie style.

37.jpg

z.jpg
Vido was confident. Had a lot of men. Now he's lost the home-field advantage. If we keep up the pressure, no way he's getting out of here alive.

Shep can argue that the mission is actually to save the this factory and the workers or insist that Zaeed follows orders for renegade points.

s2.jpg
You don't make a move unless I know about it first.

z.jpg
This is MY mission. Remember that.

38.jpg

More tough-guy dialogue.

s2.jpg
You want him dead? Then he dies.

z.jpg
I don't care what else happens. As long as Vido swallows a bullet.

It's still a non-committal decision until...

39.jpg

40.jpg

z.jpg
No time. Vido's probably halfway to the shuttle docks by now.

s2.jpg
Vido's wounded. How fast could he be?

41.jpg

Here's the real dilemma of the mission. Let them burn and go after the merc leader? Or save them?

Isn't this identical to the choice you get at the end of Bring Down The Sky? Either let the bad guy get away or save the hostages.

Funny, that this is one of the few (only?) loyalty missions that involves any real C&C --- AND ITZ A DLC!

Tho, if you go Paragon, and elect to save the civies, you can talk Zaeed into going yr way at the end (if yr Persuade ability is high enough) --- or, you can let him die a horrible death!

I'm curious how the Renegade option plays out...

Alright then.

s2.jpg
Let's get moving before Vido gets away.

z.jpg
Glad you see it my way.

42.jpg

The squad left the poor worker to burn and went to chase down Vido instead.

43.jpg

The chase took them deeper into the plant where the Blue Suns threw waves of soldiers to no avail. Five minutes of shooting from cover later, a YMIR mech attacked to add some variety.

44.jpg

Thrashed it.

45.jpg

Just in time to catch Vido. You will fail to catch Vido no matter what if Shep goes for the trapped workers. It's autopilot from here.

46.jpg

47.jpg

v.jpg
Please. You know it was nothing personal. Just business. I swear.

48.jpg

49.jpg

The second shot hit Vido's leg. Crippling him.

v.jpg
It was twenty years ago! Look at you! I did you a favor!

50.jpg

Not even a chance to stop Zaeed here. He really wants Vido dead.

51.jpg

Zaeed ejected a still-hot heatsink from his pistol.

52.jpg

And sent it flying towards Vido.

53.jpg

Who's sitting in a puddle of gasoline.

54.jpg

55.jpg

56.jpg

57.jpg

58.jpg

59.jpg

60.jpg

Unlocking his loyalty power makes him the ultimate all rounder squadmate. Capable of taking down shields with Disruptor ammunition and burning down armor with inferno grenade.

Slight minor outcome differences:

For Paragon approach. If you save the workers:
-Zaeed will not be loyal. Unless you pass a very high Paragon check at the end of it.

-You gain Heavy Weapons Ammo capacity upgrade instead of Assault Rifle.

-You get more credits from the company for saving the workers and the plant from further damage.

I've read that you can actually leave Zaeed to die. But the way to unlock it involved having you finish the game first, then do Zaeed's loyalty mission. What a weird feature.

Errr...is that the only explanation we're going to get for this? 'coz it makes no goddamn sense.

Though it's good to know the cure for bullets to the head is being stubborn. We should probably tell our soldiers abroad that at some point.

Don't forget he was shot on the face losing an eye and part of the skull and left for death in a random derelict planet (possibly without any ship nearby), and still he managed to drag himself to the nearest medic. That completely out-extremes Shepard, that just died and was revived thanks to external influence.

Medic? Don't you read what he said. He used rage as an anesthetic and cauterized the wound with willpower.

Garrus has a vengeance to claim.

01.jpg

g.jpg
There's a specialist on the Citadel; name's Fade. He's an expert at helping people disappear. Sidonis was seen with him.

s.jpg
What happened? How did Sidonis betray your team?

g.jpg
He tipped off the mercs. Told them where our base was. He drew me out with a false job, then let the mercs hit my team. My men weren't prepared. They tried to hold them off... By the time I got back, there were only two survivors. They didn't last long. All ten of them. Because of him.

s.jpg
What are you planning to do when you find him?

g.jpg
You humans have a saying: "an eye for an eye". A life for a life. He owes me ten lives, and I plan to collect.

s.jpg
Where do we find Fade?

g.jpg
I've arranged a meeting. We'll meet him in a warehouse near the Neon Markets, down on Zakera Ward. Thanks, Shepard. I appreciate you taking the time to help me.

Citadel, Zakera Ward

02.jpg

Let's check with Bailey first.

s1.jpg
I'm trying to find a local forger. He goes by the name of Fade.

b.jpg
Yeah, I know of him -- the alias, anyway. He's been a thorn in the Network Division's side for the last year. He works with the Blue Suns.

s1.jpg
Why haven't you been able to catch him?

b.jpg
Whoever he is, he's damned good at avoiding C-Sec. I think someone on the inside's feeding him info. Either that, or he's got access to our databases and comm channels. I don't know which one is worse. But you're outside C-Sec. Maybe you can nail his ass.

03.jpg

Looks like we're dealing with a krogan.

04.jpg

The krogan did not say a word and instead turned his head to a volus across the room.

05.jpg

s1.jpg
Fade? You're not quite how I imagined you.

v.jpg
Looks can be deceiving.

06.jpg

g1.jpg
I'd rather see you make someone reappear.

v.jpg
Ah..that's not the service we provide.

07.jpg

Garrus doesn't fuck around.

v.jpg
Damn it. Quick...Shoot them, you lumbering mountains!

:Renegade Interrupt:

08.jpg

Garrus pre-empted and Shep followed suit.

09.jpg

10.jpg

:smug:

11.jpg

12.jpg

s1.jpg
We need to find a client of yours. I suggest you cooperate.

v.jpg
Wait..I'm not the one you want to talk to. I'm not Fade.

s1.jpg
(Intelligence) I knew it.

g1.jpg
Well then maybe you'd like to tell us where to find him.

v.jpg
Yes. Of course. He's in the factory district, works out of the old prefab foundry. Uh, he's got a lot of mercs there.. Blue Suns. Harkin thinks they're protecting him.

Hm, Harkin sounds familiar. Isn't he the first human C-Sec officer who dropped out due to misbehavior in Mass Effect 1?

s1.jpg
What does the Blue Suns have to do with this?

v.jpg
They use his services to help their people infiltrate businesses and various organizations here on the Citadel.

g1.jpg
Bastard. He's using C-Sec to help those scum.

v.jpg
No, no, no. Well, not really. He got fired from C-Sec a while ago, but he still knows the systems.

g1.jpg
Interesting. But it changes nothing. We still need to find him before we can get to Sidonis.

s1.jpg
This Harkin sounds like he could use a little talking to.

g1.jpg
Talk all you want. I'll be too busy giving his kidneys a friendly thumping.

And thump he will.

v.jpg
So..I ..I can go?

g1.jpg
Sure, but if we don't find Harkin, we'll be back for you.

13.jpg

s1.jpg
There he is.

h.jpg
Shepard?

14.jpg

And run he did.

g1.jpg
Run all you want, Harkin. We'll find you!

15.jpg

The Blue Suns are your standard merc types mixed in with a few engineers protected with shields. Riflemen squaddies like Garrus and Zaeed can cut through them with no problem. Strip down their shield with gunfire or Garrus' Overload, then throw Zaeed's fire grenade for great effect.

16.jpg

Further in, the Blue Suns will get a YMIR online. Burn down the shield, then Warp the armor. Once that's done, Throw Biotic will stun it long enough for the guns to finish the work.

17.jpg

18.jpg

Mechs usually explode when finished with a headshot. Wouldn't hurt to step back a bit from their corpse.

s1.jpg
You worked with Harkin at C-Sec?

g1.jpg
Yeah. He was a pain in the ass back then, too. But I'm in no mood for his games, if he doesn't cooperate, I'll beat him within an inch of his life.

s1.jpg
You seem to be getting tense, Garrus.

g1.jpg
Harkin may know why Sidonis wanted to disappear. If so, he knows why we're here and I don't want him tipping Sidonis off. Did you see that? Harkin's getting ready for us. He's a real criminal now. Working for the Blue Suns. I should just shoot him on sight. But I need him alive, so I won't do any permanent damage. Just enough to loosen his tongue.

s1.jpg
Whatever it takes.

g1.jpg
Exactly. I knew you'd understand. As for Sidonis, it'll be quick and painless. Unlike everyone he betrayed, he'll be spared the agony of slow death. It's more than he deserves, but as long as he's dead, I'll be satisfied.

s1.jpg
I've got no problem with that.

g1.jpg
Somehow I didn't think you would.

19.jpg

More mechs with a nasty twin YMIR boss at the end of it.

20.jpg

It's best to tell both squaddie to take firing position from cover while you draw the attention. Then slowly plink at it with special powers.

21.jpg

Once both mechs are turned to scrap, the way to Harkin should be clear for Garrus to start his shakedown.

22.jpg

23.jpg

Rifle butt to the face!

24.jpg

Seems like his C-Sec Space Jujitsu takedown training paid off.

25.jpg

g1.jpg
So, Fade...couldn't make yourself disappear, huh?

h.jpg
Come on, Garrus -- we can work this out. Whaddaya need?

Garus let go of his grip.

g1.jpg
I'm looking for someone.

h.jpg
Well, I guess we both have something the other one wants.

Garrus kicked Harkin's stomach hard, flooring him.

26.jpg

27.jpg

Commander Shepard chimed in with his quality choice of dialogues.

s1.jpg
That had to hurt. Maybe you should just tell us what we want to know.

h.jpg
*gets up* Maybe. I still haven't heard what you want.

g1.jpg
You helped a friend of mine disappear. I need to find him.

h.jpg
I might need more information than that.

g1.jpg
His name was Sidonis. Turian, came from the--

28.jpg

Sigh. At this point I was wondering where the fuck did my RED TEXT WINNAR choices went to. Then I realized. Garrus provides all the Renegade response in this scene. All of it.

s1.jpg
Is this information really worth all the trouble?

h.jpg
I don't give out client information. It's bad for business.

29.jpg

Again, Garrus with his Renegade interrupt.

30.jpg

g2.jpg
A broken neck.

h.jpg
All right, all right! Get off me!

31.jpg

g2.jpg
No, but Sidonis...opened my eyes. Now arrange a meeting.

h.jpg
I'm going. *walks over to a console* Yeah, it's me. There's a chance your identity may be compromised. *pause* That's why I'm calling. I'm sending an agent. Where do you want to meet?

32.jpg

h.jpg
So if our business is done, I'll be going...

33.jpg

Shit. Garrus collar-grabs too.

h2.jpg
So what...you're just going to kill me? That's not your style, Garrus.

34.jpg

They even gave us the reverse of Renegade interrupt. You get to choose whether to stop Garrus from shooting off Harkin's kneecaps.

35.jpg

g1.jpg
Maybe give C-Sec a blood trail to follow.

h2.jpg
Bastard!

s1.jpg
You're getting off easy, Harkin.

h2.jpg
What'd I ever do to you?

Harkin's a bloody menace. We shouldn't have just let him go. He deserved to be punished.

Uh, you never gave me the option, partner.

s1.jpg
Don't waste your time on him. Let C-Sec deal with him for now.

g2.jpg
Yeah, I suppose you're right. Thanks for helping me with this, Shepard.

s1.jpg
I'd do the same if I were you.

g1.jpg
I'm sure you would. I need to set up.

37.jpg

s1.jpg
What do you need me to do?

38.jpg

g2.jpg
Keep him talking and don't get in my way. I'll let you know when he's in my sights. Give me a signal so I know you're ready, and I'll take the shot.

39.jpg

40.jpg

Uh...why don't you just shoot him now?

g2.jpg
All right. There he is..wave him over and keep him talking.

41.jpg

42.jpg

LOL Is that Garrus set up position in the background? WTF.

sid.jpg
Let's get this over with.

43.jpg

Uh...31 metre distance, huh?

g2.jpg
You're in my way, move to the side.

Curious though, why did Sidonis betray Garrus? Let's chat a bit.

s1.jpg
Listen, Sidonis. I'm here to help you.

sid.jpg
Don't ever say that name aloud.

s1.jpg
I'm a friend of Garrus'. He wants you dead, but I'm hoping that's not necessary.

44.jpg

sid.jpg
Garrus? Is this some kind of joke?

g2.jpg
Damn it, Shepard. If he moves, I'm taking the shot!

sid.jpg
You're not kidding, are you?

45.jpg

Sigh. What kind of dialogue is that?

sid.jpg
Screw this. I'm not sticking around here to find out. Tell Garrus I had my own problem...

Ah well, suit yourself.

46.jpg

I could've saved your ass here with a Paragon interrupt. But fuck, I can't stand the asinine dialogue any more. Fire away, Garrus.

47.jpg

48.jpg

And it's over.

49.jpg

g2.jpg
That was easy enough.

s1.jpg
This is what happens when Bioware fails at writing. I need to know this is over.

g2.jpg
Yeah, it's over. I can move on.

s1.jpg
Glad to hear it.

50.jpg

Garrus Loyalty Power boosts armor & health penetration. Combine this power with hard hitting weapons like sniper / pistol for maximum effectiveness during boss fights.

Bad screencapping on my part. Harkin thought Shep's team only came from the front and he had an exit behind him ready, only for Garrus to pop out from behind n deliver the Riflebutt strike.

I figured it'd be something extreme like that.

Wow that sniper kill sequence was bad. Other than Garrus' open positioning, why is he not reacting to the fact that you told Sidonis about him?

I guess it didn't matter unless you take the Paragon route : Save Sidonis with Paragon Interrupt and convince Garrus give Sidonis a chance to explain.

Changed? It's a bioware game we're talking about here, nothing would've changed. Only some additional lines by butthurt quarians about Tali bringing a geth with her.

I find amusing the evolution of Garrus' behaviour: In ME1 he was like SAren but less competent, aka proto-EXTREME, depending of your choices on his private quest he would continue to be as extreme or consider his actions. Here in ME2 he's uber-extreme and I'm sure no matter what you did in his missions he would act in the same way.
