It was justified, I guess, to have Garrus turned that way. But I felt they finished writing him after Omega hence there is nothing left to write about Garrus. It's a pity, but I doubt they can develop him further in ME3.

Oh, as Romance option for Female Shep, Garrus did confide that he is lonely and felt that Shepard is his only true friend in the galaxy. Too bad Male Shep didn't have any male bonding moments.

Back at the Normandy...

g.jpg
Whatever happens with the Collectors or the Reapers or whoever else comes after us, I know you'll get the job done.

s.jpg
You actually think we'll find something worse than Collectors or Reapers?

g.jpg
It's Biowa- Ahem. I like to expect the worst. There's a small chance I'll be pleasantly surprised.

s.jpg
One way or another, we'll get the job done.

g.jpg
I'd tell you I'm skeptical, but Saren doubted you, and it didn't go well for him. It's strange going into suicide mission on a human ship. Your people don't prepare for high-risk operations the way turians do.

Oh, nice. Time for some Turian culture study!

s.jpg
How do turian crews get ready for high-risk missions?

g.jpg
With violence, usually. Turian ships have more operational discipline than your Alliance, but fewer personal restrictions. Our commanders run us tight, and they know we need to blow off steam. Turian ships have training rooms for exercise, combat sims, even full-contact sparring. Whatever lets people work off stress.

s.jpg
You mean turian ships have crewmen fighting each other before a mission?

g.jpg
It's supervised, of course. Nobody is going to risk an injury that interferes with the mission. And it's a good way to settle grudges amicably. I remember right before this one missions, were about to hit a batarian pirate squad. Very risky. This recon scout and I had been at each other's throats. Nerves, mostly. She suggest we settle it in a ring.

s.jpg
I assume you took her down gently?

g.jpg
Actually, she and I were the top ranked hand-to-hand specialists on the ship. I had reach, but she had flexibility. It was brutal. After nine rounds, the judge called it a draw. There were a lot of unhappy betters in the training room. *pause* We, ah, ended up holding a tiebreaker in her quarters. I had reach, but she had flexibility. More than one way to work off stress, I guess.

Can't beat 'em. Fuck 'em. I guess.

s.jpg
Do you ever regret leaving C-Sec or the turian military?

g.jpg
Not for a minute. When it comes down to it, Shepard. I don't think I'm a very good turian. When a good turian hears a bad order, he follows it. He might complain, but he knows his place. I just don't see the point in staying quiet and polite. Not when the galaxy is at stake.

s.jpg
Honestly, Garrus, what do you think our chances are?

g.jpg
Honestly? The Collectors killed you once, and all it did was piss you off. I can't imagine they'll stop you this time. But an unmapped area, advanced technology, and the Collectors? We're going to lose people. No way around that. Not a happy analysis, I know. Don't worry. I won't spread it around. And I'm with you, regardless.

s.jpg
Thanks for the talk, Garrus. I'll see you later.

It's good to see that AIDS don't exist in this non-grimdark universe...

PS: What if they were one male gay turian but the other wasn't?

Garrus' analysis was brutal. But he is right, we're heading into an unknown region of space. We still have no opening to follow aside from gathering more talent, but gradually our weapons techs underwent upgrades.

001.jpg

Redundant Field Generator - with its next-gen in-combat regeneration, survivability chances are increased.

002.jpg

003.jpg

The smallest sidearm, the Heavy Pistol underwent radical upgrades to make it the ultimate anti-armor weaponry. This, combined with Smart Rounds capability, turn the pistol into a mini-sniper rifle that fits in one hand.

edi.jpg
Commander, the Codex demands an update.

shepard.jpg
Then we'll give them an extreme update.

Dr. Okeer's Ultimate Krogan lies in stasis. With the fate of galaxy tied in this fight, extreme decisions had to be taken.

004.jpg

edi.jpg
The subject is stable, Shepard. Integration with onboard systems was seamless.

shepard.jpg
Stand by. I'm going to open the tank and let him out.

edi.jpg
Cerberus protocol is very clear regarding untested alien technology.

shepard.jpg
I won't be second guessed on my own ship, by my own ship. Do it.

edi.jpg
Very well, Shepard. The controls are online. The switch - and consequences are yours.

I'm Commander Shepard of the Normandy.

grunt.jpg
Not your name. Mine. I am trained, I know things, but the tank... Bioware couldn't implant connection. Their words are hollow. Warlord, legacy, grunt. "Grunt" was among the last. It has no meaning. It'll do.

017.jpg

shepard.jpg
Why do you want me to try to kill you?

grunt.jpg
Want? I do what I meant to -- fight and reveal the strongest. Nothing in the tank ever asked what I want. I feel nothing for Okeer's clan or his enemies. The writing failed. Bioware has failed.

018.jpg

shepard.jpg
I took you, and I released you. Follow my command, and you'll have purpose.

grunt.jpg
Nothing in the tank imprints indicated humans could be so forceful. You command as though you've earned it.

shepard.jpg
My enemy threatens galaxies. Everyone on my ship has earned their place.

grunt.jpg
Hmm. Hmph! That's ...acceptable. I'll fight for you.

019.jpg

grunt.jpg
Hmm? Ha! Offer one hand, but arm the other. Wise, Shepard. If I find a clan, if I find what I...I want, I will be honored to eventually pit them against you.

Suit up. We're going all out extreme on this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5w7sbx2 ... o_response

Mass Effect, a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. EXTREME Shepard, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law.

I need you to board that ship and get some hard data on the Collectors. Find us a way to get to their homeworld.

shepard.jpg
Are you sure this information is good?

devon.jpg
Information is my weapon, Shepard. It's good.

shepard.jpg
Hard to imagine how a turian patrol could take out a Collector Ship.

devon.jpg
Reports indicate the hull's intact, but all systems seem to be offline. They could be making progress as we speak. I'm not saying it won't be dangerous, but we can't let an opportunity like this slip by.

shepard.jpg
Send me the coordinates, and I'll take care of it.

devon.jpg
Already sent. Once you're aboard the ship, establish an uplink with EDI. She'll mine their data for information regarding the Omega 4 relay. Good luck, Shepard.

025.jpg

026.jpg

We're going all out, Mang.

027.jpg

Miranda's Warp fully evolved to Unstable Warp to hit in larger radius and shave 3 seconds off its cooldown!

028.jpg

Grunt is a more powerful Jacob with Assault Rifle & Shotgun expertise. He also packs a Squad Incendiary Ammo upgrade. Perfect for those organic Collector insects. He also possess a passive health regeneration bonus.

edi.jpg
Ladar scans do not detect any hull breaches on the side facing us. I detect no mass field effect distortions. It appears the drive core is offline.

032.jpg

Wow. This doesn't look like a trap at all. Seriously guys, no combats here!

grunt2.jpg
Never seen a ship like this before.

miranda.jpg
Looks like a giant insect hive.

Yeah the avatars look funny. Grunt's wearing a full armored mask, Miranda opted for a clear breather mask.

edi.jpg
Penetrating scans have detected an access node to uplink with Collector databanks. Marking location to your hardsuit computers.

034.jpg

shepard2.jpg
Maybe the defense towers softened it for the turians.

grunt2.jpg
Maybe the missing humans are on it. Unless they're dead.

036.jpg

grunt2.jpg
Small, like my tank. Bet they begged for mercy.

037.jpg

More horrors.

038.jpg

grunt2.jpg
Lots of dead meat.

miranda.jpg
They could have been used for testing. If they were a control group, they would have been discarded at the end of the experiment.

shepard2.jpg
They're dead. Nothing we can do. Keep moving.

039.jpg

Huh. Is that a dead Collector?

040.jpg

miranda.jpg
That's a Collector. Were they experimenting on one of their own?

shepard2.jpg
EDI, I'm uploading the data from this terminal. See if you can figure out what they were up to.

edi.jpg
Data received. Analyzing. The Collectors were running baseline genetic comparisons between their species and humanity.

shepard2.jpg
Are they looking for similarities?

edi.jpg
I have no hypothesis on their motivations. All I have are the preliminary results. They reveal something remarkable. A quad-strand genetic structure, identical to traces collected from ancient ruins. Only one race is known to have this structure: The Protheans.

That's a big mindfuck. To those who are not in the loop. Protheans are races who fought the geth 50,000 years ago (Or so they say). They lost and left behind beacons for people like Shepard to discover as warnings. It is said they were rendered extinct after many were either killed or enslaved.

The Vigil AI, hidden in Ilos, told Shepard that enslaved Protheans were left to mindless deaths after the Reapers finished stripping the galaxy clean of any resources. With this revelation, however, it is entirely possible that the Reapers had taken a small sample of the Protheans and changed them completely into the Collectors. But 50,000 is a long time, so I don't really know when they started popping out. Bioware's master of smoke and mirrors. Pulling out a huge gap of years, 50,000 years. Huh. Let's leave it at that.

shepard2.jpg
I thought the Protheans vanished 50,000 years ago! I can't believe the species still exist.

edi.jpg
These are no longer Protheans, Shepard. Their genes show distinct signs of extensive genetic rewrite. The Reapers have repurposed them to suit their needs.

We can start guessing why they wanted Humans now. Maybe a genetic rewrite, but at a colony-scale abduction? Hmmm. Something bigger perhaps.

shepard2.jpg
You'd think somebody would have picked up on this.

edi.jpg
No one has had an opportunity to study a Collector genetic code in this detail. I have already matched two thousands alleles to recorded fragments. This Collector likely descends from a Prothean colony in the Styx Theta Cluster.

shepard2.jpg
I wouldn't want to live as some kind of mutated slave. Killing a Collector is probably doing it a favor.

Much like shooting Saren did.

shepard2.jpg
Whatever they used to be, the Collectors work for the Reapers now. And we still have to stop them.

miranda.jpg
They're not doing to us what they did to the Protheans.

041.jpg

A stack of arsenal lies nearby, god knows why Shepard decided to take one from it and suddenly gain a weapons expertise he doesn't already have. Swell writing, Bioware. Why can't they have those in Dragon Age, too?

042.jpg

I already have Pistol & SMG. I can unlock either Assault Rifle, Shotgun or Sniper. There's pros and cons to each, but I definitely skip the Shotgun altogether. Despite its devastating power at close range, we're playing in Insanity, the clip size's too small and close range is an undesirable trait.

Sniper Rifle packs a punch when used correctly. 2-3 shots to the head ought to kill most non bosses, however the Assault Rifle trumps this by being the versatile all-rounder. With a 3-shot burst, it provides the Sentinel class with a good medium to long range weapon since the Tempest SMG can be very hard to control at long range engagements.

The heavily upgraded Pistol qualifies as amini-sniper and doesn't have any recoil at all, so it's totally fine to skip the Sniper.

043.jpg

044.jpg

miranda.jpg
Look--on the ceiling. More of those strange pods.

grunt2.jpg
Hundreds. How many are full?

shepard2.jpg
Too many.

edi.jpg
I detected no life signs in the pods, Shepard. It is probably the victims inside died when the ship lost primary power.

joker.jpg
Commander. You gotta hear this. On a hunch, I asked EDI to run an analysis on the ship.

edi.jpg
I compared the EM Profile against the data recorded by the original Normandy two years ago. They are an exact match.

!!!!!!!!!!!

shepard2.jpg
The same ship dogging me for two years? Way beyond coincidence.

joker.jpg
Something doesn't add up, Commander. Watch your back.

045.jpg

We went in further and discovered a huge collection of empty pods.

grunt2.jpg
That's...big.

miranda.jpg
They could take every human in the Terminus systems and not have enough to fill these pods. They're going to target Earth.

shepard2.jpg
Not it we stop them.

046.jpg

miranda.jpg
There -- on the platform. Looks like some kind of control panel.

grunt2.jpg
Should be dead Collectors. Something's wrong.

047.jpg

048.jpg

edi.jpg
Data mine in progress, Shepard.

049.jpg

I knew it.

050.jpg

shepard2.jpg
What the hell just happened?

joker.jpg
Major power surge. Everything went dark, but we're back up now.

051.jpg

Shadows skitter on the topside.

edi.jpg
Shepard, it was not a malfunction. :ackbar: This was a trap.

Protheans are races who fought the geth

Correction: Reapers, not geth. Geth were robots that Quarians created and were retarded enough to not built these with the 3 laws of robotic and/or a mega instant self-destruct code.

funny (sad?) fact: Not choosing renegade/paragon option when opening Grunt's tank will lead to you shooting him 2x (that should have been the renegade option...), but he then just joins you anyway.

Why does the CO of a warship always lead boarding parties? (Which consist of two other individuals)

I suppose Shep's just too extreme to leave the task to anyone else.

The platform they stood on levitated and started hovering at disorienting speed.

053.jpg

edi.jpg
I am having trouble maintaining connection. There is someone else in the system.

054.jpg

The platform came to a complete stop. The second phase of the trap clicked into motion.

055.jpg

056.jpg

057.jpg

Each platform holds a handful of Collectors which must be dealt with. There's not much room to maneuver, but the more platform you clear, the more cover you can utilize. And there's always a goddamn Harbinger spawning if you don't take out a weakened target fast enough. Harbinger biotic projectile can knock you out of cover, quite dangerous when 5-6 Collectors are firing at you.

058.jpg

All this while two Scions (tanks with long range cannon) are peppering from the furthest platforms. I switched to pistol for max. effectiveness.

059.jpg

It's time to escape.

060.jpg

edi.jpg
I have regained control of the platform, Shepard.

shepard2.jpg
I thought we were going to take on every damn Collector here!

edi.jpg
Perhaps you should consider upgrading my hardware.

shepard2.jpg
Did you get what we needed?

edi.jpg
I found data that could help us successfully navigate the Omega 4 relay. I have also found the turian distress call that served as the lure for this trap. The Collectors were the source. It is unusual.

shepard2.jpg
What are you getting at?

edi.jpg
Turian emergency channels have secondary encryption. It is present but corrupted in the message. It is not possible that the Illusive Man would believe the distress call was genuine.

shepard2.jpg
Why are you so sure?

edi.jpg
I found the anomaly with Cerberus detection protocols. He wrote them.

joker.jpg
He knew it was a trap? Why would he send us into a trap?

shepard2.jpg
That son of a bitch sent us right into Collector hands.

grunt.jpg
Why? We're part of the Cerberus clan.

miranda.jpg
There has to be some other explanation! The Illusive Man wouldn't do this to us. He..he just wouldn't!

I knew I can't trust them. You fuckin' cheerleader.

joker.jpg
Uh...Commander. We've got another problem. The Collector Ship is powering up. You need to get out of there before their weapons come online. I'm not losing another Normandy!

edi.jpg
I do not have full control of their systems. I will do what I can. Sending coordinates for shuttle extraction.

shepard2.jpg
Come on, let's move!

061.jpg

Waves of Collectors attempt to stop Shep's escape.

062.jpg

Oh you motherfucker, we're ready for you this time.

063.jpg

They peppered the encounter with multiple husks charging and a few drones. Taking these non-respawning minions out would make it easier to focus on the Prothean.

064.jpg

The Collector Particle Beam is still the most effective Barrier slicer. But for armor piercing, I switched to the pistol.

065.jpg

They still pack the instant kill shockwave attack to recharge their barrier. So I kept away from it. Died once from it. Otherwise, this encounter shouldn't be too hard if you upgrade your weapons. What? You hate the mining of minerals? Well go download a trainer like me. Take that console users. :smug:

066.jpg

Vaporized.

067.jpg

EDI will only finish hacking the door open if you have killed the Prothean. I don't understand the inflexibility. So yeah, fuck you Bioware.

068.jpg

069.jpg

Shep can just run through these or obliterate the zombies.

joker.jpg
We're out of time, Commander! We have to go!

070.jpg

Shuttle's here. Let's disappear!

It was a trap!

Also, what? The spying AI just tells Shepard that their overlords are lying? Is this the mysterious Bioware striking again, or does this actually bear some plot significance like the AI going rogue or something of the sorts?

I believe at this point in time EDI is still under Cerberus locks... but I guess those locks didn't restrict her from pointing out the Illusive Man's douchebaggery. She's not allowed to give Shepard access to certain classified data, but this information probably just happened to not fall under those classifications.
