haters gonna hate
Reminds me of Chappelles song "Piss on you":

"Haters gotta hate,
Lovers wanna love,
I don't even want,
None of the above,
I want to piss on you.
Yes I do, I'll piss on you,
I pee on you."

But yeah, menu is useless, it just drops a list of shit and goes home, and the search engine isn't even theirs, it's Google, so that's even more useless.

Well, it's no TwilightFanboyCavitySearch.com, but I hear some people like to use it.

To be honest, ditching the rpg shit and making the shooting better was exactly what mass effect needed

Yeah, there was no way they were going to salvage a proper RPG out of Mass Effect, so focusing on the action was a wise move.

I actually like the removal of the inventory, even from an RPG point of view. For a band of adventurers questing through the wilderness, it's reasonable that they carry everything with them, but for space marines who only leave their ship for short missions it makes sense that they only carry what they need, and keep everything else in the armory. I would have liked to see more different guns in each category though, but I guess that's where the DLC comes in.

Now that RPG elements have been ditched it makes you wonder why should it even have a coverage on RPGCodex.
I don't remember Halo 3 being covered.

It still has a small RPG part, C&C to some extent and... well.. it's just a very fun experience. So, same reason why people talk about Wh40K or Starcraft here. They're just good games and worth talking about.

But I agree that it the RPG in it is not strong enough to be put on the news so often ;)

It's an Action RPG. That said, ME2 is definiotely inching closer to shooter category. Still, stats and talents effect game, there's still plenty of C&C (more than that fucked up BG that the Codex cums over), lots of dialogue and choices, freedom to go where you want for the most part.

Stop the bullshits, start the truths.

But, to be honest... it's the best shooter I have played in years
???

great presented story,

Unimportant for a good shooter.

the influence of RPG-like stuff on your shooting and combat

Shit design desicision for a shooter.

the higher level of C&C than in ME1.

Totally irrelevant to the shooter genre.

Oh, and it looks great.

No, it doesn't.

Sorry bro, but Halo 3 > ME2.

Criticising ME2? This is truly a scandal. The good side of this is such retarded opinions are a minority.

If ME2 still carries on ME1's tradition of forced auto aim, its not a shooter. Shooters require you to aim. ME has transcended both RPG and shooter boundaries to become a mouse driven cinematic experience.

ME1 was a terrible shooter so if they actually improved it in the sequel...

... well I still won't play it because I didnt finish the first one and so all sense of motivation will be lost

Who gives a rats ass what you label it? Why does everything have to be put into a clearly defined box? All I want to know is - is it fun?

Ok, so it's not an RPG - I'd call it a 3rd person, squad based shooter with (very) light RPG elements, good story, interesting characters, a bit of C&C and great graphics. Not to mention the fact that it's about 40hrs long, which is about 4-5 times longer than any other shooter that I can think of.

All this makes it the best action game since Deus Ex (IMHO).

Is it fun? Hell yeah it's fun, and that's all video games need to be.

Fun (aw yeah) fact: "fun" is so subjective it's retarded. ME wouldn't be fun for me even if I'd be getting a blowjob while playing it.
But since everything's about FUN how about we rename the Codex? Fun Codex, good for what it is. Putting the "fun" back in video games. We'll start slowly, with fun wii games. Maybe Party Babyz, then we'll move on to something more hardcore, but still fun, you know, like generic console shooters. Halo, Killzone and Grenade of Grenade: Grenade Grenade 2 come to mind.

This makes me think you have never received a blow job and thus lack the proper frame of reference.

I'm wondering whether we've hit a critical mass re dumbing down. That the dumbed-down console market has spread far enough that the new youngsters entering the market for the 1st time aren't enough to sustain a game build on marketing lies. Last time around, you had folk buying into Oblivion, FO3, ME who had never played an rpg before. Now your typical xbox kiddie has played a game along the lines of those 3, or their jrpg equivalents, or worse. Those kiddies might actually start raging if features they liked start disappearing or getting dumbed down in the name of 'streamlining' or 'accessibility to new fans'. That didn't matter before b/c there was so many new fans that they totally steamrolled us and our complaints. But the companies keep trying the same thing over and over, eventually their only new market is the kiddies who are just entering the market, and that's not big enough to sustain the mass market that they're after.

I predict mass console kiddies rioting in a few years when TES5 removes repair and ME3 adds auto-aim.

It also depends on what you call "dumbing down" or "streamlined".

In the case of ME2, sure the RPG side of things have been watered down, but the action/shooting side had been greatly improved. I remember after playing ME1 thinking to myself, they really need to decide weather this is an RPG or an action game, because as it stands, it's not much good at either.

Well it looks like thay went with the latter for ME2. I would have prefered the former of course, but at least they made a decision and the game is much better for it.

Well of course it's subjective. Same reason I probably enjoy different music than you do, or books or movies. And I always enjoy blowjobs regardless of whatever else I may be doing or who's giving them. Sucks to be you if you don't. (pun intended).

You seem to be suggesting that a game doesn't need to be fun as long as it has the codex approved level of RPGness. What bullshit.
