The missions are varied, from rescuing POW's, to destroying tanks on a convoy, there are plenty of things to do. More so than in the past games. The open world is one of the best I have seen. It really feels like Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion. Imagine Red Dead Redemption without all of the Strangers peppered throughout. There aren't many unique encounters peppered throughout like in many open world games aside from finding a couple of buddies, so people shouldn't' expect a lot of mindless tasks while playing. I honestly expected a lot of useless collectibles but I haven't found any to speak of.

I also wanna add that you never know what might happen during a mission. You take on a mission that seems like a standard op, but then shit blows up in your face and suddenly there are mutant soldiers everywhere and you were NOT prepared for that. Last mission I did I was supposed to eliminate 6 targets in Africa. Yeah, ok, standards shit, nothing that we haven't done before.. Except it ended up with me escorting kids through the muddy jungle while enemy soldiers and helicopters were after us. At the last stretch I had to hold the lines as the kids ran to the chopper. And you do all of this while carrying one kid with a crippled leg. This game makes you feel like an authentic 80's action hero.

So the Codex's Critical Consensus is that it's a good game. Better than expected. I'll wait for the inevitable ultimate edition that bundles together GZ and this one. By the way, are there insufferable 60+ minutes long cutscenes in which one character rants non-stop, while Snake gives him an empty stare? I liked to think that in MGS4, most of the time Snake was pretending to pay attention and instead was thinking about what to have for dinner everytime someone started ranting.

PS: Is Peace Wanlker worth getting for the PS3? Will you miss much if you don't play it?

I think the consensus thus far is "Gameplay is good, story is dildos even for a MGS game". And thus far the blank stares by Snake are in there in full force, because Snake isn't given anything to say.

That first skulls mission in africa seemd impossible to do. One soldier rips my health apart and there are like 5 of them. I tried to go in the BMP vehicle but they dont care. Game is hard. :(

Are you talking about the one where you have to hijack the car? I was lucky, when they jumped out I was crawling right next to them. I quickly called Diamond Dog to distract them which gave me the opportunity to fulton the car and crawl the fuck out ASAP. I love that dog SO MUCH. Lost count how many times it has bailed my ass out of a sticky situation.

I saw a video today, were the player had various guns and when he crawled they make noise. That made me wonder if the enemies could hear that, how is their field of view and hearing?

The stealth suit is very overpowered to sneak around, you can fast sneak up to anyone without risk of them being alerted.

Either bring D-Walker with you or use explosives(granade/ rocket launcher) on skulls. Alternatively you can use some explosions elsewhere with C-4s to lure them away.

Are the skulls those ghost guys who appear in the mist in an early mission? I just rode my horse past them, and they kept up with me speed-wise, but they couldn't land enough shots to pose any threat to me. Perhaps, though, this is for show, and they're harder later on.

Holy shit I just lost it. After doing a mission I got an emergency call to come back to Mother Base ASAP only to have Kaz, Ocelot and Huey sing Happy Birthday to me and give me a birthday cake. Goddamnit, Kojima!

That made me giggle at first but then I remembered what the voice actors in this fucking game sound like.

I really need to start finding more fuel items so that I can actually expand Mother Base. Thus far I've found only trickles of the stuff. I understand that at the point I'm at (I've done the Honey Bee mission) Mother base will generate some stuff on its own, but it just is not enough.

It's designed to be grindy so you'll buy virtual money for real money in the in-game store.

I need others to confirm this, but according to the reviews, mictrotransactions are for the multiplayer, it has nothing to do with buying fuel to expand your base in singleplayer.

That is correct. Microshit is for online stuff that isn't released until next year anyway. Getting resources is only a pain at the beginning, but later when you upgrade your Fulton to be able to extract heavy stuff like cargo hulls and cars you'll be able to hijack cargo full of resources. Normal grey ones are worth 750 resources and red ones are 7500. At that point it becomes a matter of running from camp to camp and taking all the hulls and moving on to the next area. Enjoy swimming in resources.

That seems to be correct. The only thing that mention micro-transactions is the multiplayer thingy. And if you need fuel, raid a couple of outposts with the upgraded fulton. Plenty of fuel in containers.

I have only played the first and second, and maybe an hour of #4 (so not played that one at all).

I did actually enjoy the second one quite a bit, I had the Xbox version that came with the VR missions and stuff, which I also loved.

Yeah.

That being said I like 2 and despite the insane plot, 2 had massive changes to the game play which were great improvements that are considered mandatory for a mgs game. In 1 you couldn't even fire while crouching.

And I like...well, maybe more the idea of 4. At the very least the gun porn was sexy in it and there were a lot of guns.
