Also lighting is complete ass in non lit areas. Like they forgot to lit them and just decided to rise ambient lighting level of everything. Or they hoped for raytracing to work when they started developement and along the way they realized it won't work fast enough. Fore example DD2 has full PATH tracing mode that is switched off from player until you enable it with mods and suddenly some stinkers like armors suddenly start to look amazing when you enable it.

Plus there is a piss filter over everything modulating said shit lighting.

reshade should be able to fix this, right?

Depends what is the cause. If it is piss filter shenenigans then it should be easy to fix. If this is display engine setting then RE framework might get hooks to fix it, if this is stylistic choice and lighting actually is modulated on demand then it will need some major work from high end engine modders to fix it.

Imho best course of action is just to raise stink so that devs will fix it. Like they did with Diablo 4. When that game launched it had insanely rised blacks to level where black was just gray even with HDR. It took them a month to recognize it was an issue and fix it.

MHW2 should use newer version of RE Engine so my hope is that it contains even more refined version of Path Tracing like DD2 did and modders will enable it after launch like they did for DD2.

BTW the meal scene in the benchmark is a clear decline. In previous games they were joyous, funny, the meals looked succulent (in rise this declined) and with good animations.

Here the hunter is sharing disgusting red beans in wraps with a pajeet inside a filthy tent, and the scene has no soul; seems to have been created in a woke diversity lab in California.

It must just be drivers then. It's running like SHIT on a 6900XT.

What's your cpu ? Game is incredibly CPU heavy.
5950X

I've tried everything from shitty settings and upscaling to downsizing from my monitor's resolution. I can barely hold 60fps, which I would be ok with if the game looked fine. But it looks like ass.

yup, you need 3D to go high. If you don't use it for productivity aplication just sell that cpu and get 5800X3D they go relatively cheap used these days and it will be straight upgrade in game without swapping any other part on your rig.

even with 3D vcache you barely get a bump in performance (like 1 or 2 more fps in gameplay footage) as was the case in DD2

I can already see the negative steam reviews and deservedly so, game is too demanding for looking like it does

RE engine games so far tend to not have the widest hue and saturation ranges either, which is revealing itself again here. I think Capcom has become enamored with certain trends in modern filmmaking and this engine is tailored towards that end. Just a theory.

I just watched a review video to see what the game looks like when played on maximum graphics. The reviewer kept praising the graphic quality of the game, but all I saw in the video was an ugly environment. I am aware that video compression makes it look worse than in person, but overall, I think the game has a low contrast look. I canceled my pre-purchase on Steam. I don't even need the 2-hour window to decide because I already played the first Beta extensively on both PS5 and PC.

'It is an old build,' they said. Monster Hunter fanboys are among the worst, up there with FromSoftware fanboys and PC master race idiots.

Instead of buying overpriced new GPUs to play this game, I will save that money for the Switch 2 and wait for the game developed by the handheld team.

If it makes it any better, I think it is not the eating cutscene before quest, just a random cutscene from the game (probably after the intro of the game or a quest or two the siblings invites us to eat or something). I recall seeing some trailer with a cutscene more similar to older games (Palicoes cooking) but it was just a short part of the animation, can't say how it will be in the full game. Could be wrong though.

Hope you are right.

I sometimes like to see the meal cutscene before going on a hunt in the other games. Warms my heart.
The scene with the bad food and the Pajeet is worth an inquisition, if it´s the intended replacement for that beautiful tradition.

Sadly, I'm wrong, Sorry for the mistake. I was looking through the trailers trying to find what I saw and it turns out I was misremembering the scene. No palico, instead some weird creatures and it may or may not be a cooking cutscene at all.

Here is timestaped the scene I was thinking about.

One of the latest trailers has part of another food cutscene, which makes me fear that perhaps now instead of the classic palico kitchen we will be just eating things prepared by the locals.

This plus the hunter cooking its own meals at camp seems to point out to changed cutscenes, sadly
