I picked up MH3U for the Wii U, but the performance was absolute garbage (an already-low framerate that also jittered and stuttered), so I ended up never playing it.

Yet another example of CRAPCOM's excellent technical team in action.

Really? In my experience the game ran fine. But to be fair I began life as a console kiddie so I'm used to 30FPS. The MHW PC port having 60FPS...it's mindblowing how much of an effect it has on the looks of the game, very stark difference over the PS4 version.

60 FPS, you say? +M

This is on max settings @1080p, sans volumetric rendering. Thank you, 1080 Ti and G-Sync. :salute:

A Monster Hunter with PC-tier frame rate and controls has always been a dream of mine, finally realized.

I'm still a generation behind on a Strix 980 (no Ti) so I still get an occasional hitch, haha. Plus with my low-quality display I wouldn't be able to do 144 FPS and actually notice any benefits. Still, badass rig. Next time I build a new one I'm going to splurge for the Ti version of the highest card, but as it is I spent like 600 bucks on just the 980

Finally, Earplugs 5 from a Bazel helm, one lvl 2 charm and a level 3 deco. I'm looking to get the charm to level 3 so I can ditch the deco, but I haven't discovered the materials for it. It's ridiculous that to get rid of one of the most obnoxious things about the game you have to slot a level fucking 3 deco which gives one fucking level! or sacrifice the charm slot AND slot an armor piece for it. Fuck it, from now on any motherfucker who roars eats a SAED to the face.

They know how obnoxious and debilitating the roars are. That's why it's hard to get immunity. Well, it's not all that hard, but you need most of the Bazel set if you lack charms and jewels, which precludes other, potentially more useful skills.

This has got to be one of the most effective setups for hunting Vaal Hazak, certainly at this point in the game, and probably at any point in the game with relevant armor and weapon upgrades.

Mfw everyone boasts about getting high level charms/deco and I've just beaten Legiana (assigned mission) myself :negative:

That just means there's more left for you to enjoy.

Anyway, if there's any real difficulty spike prior to Kirin and Nerg, it's probably Legiana. Good job. I guess Black Diablos also, but that really depends on your playstyle.

I'm at a very similar point, I've just beaten the monster after Legiana and it was pretty easy after her. I'm doing it all solo, in part due to reading about all the connection woes, and in part because I'm terribly anti-social. Reading about all the high level monsters just makes me glad the game's got a long way to go.

But seriously- I want to murder the Handler with extreme prejudice. She is the worst sidekick I think I've encountered in any game ever and I cringe every time her dopy face comes into view. The cut scenes both before and after Odogaron were toe-curlingly awful. Please tell me when the story is over she gets eaten by Zorah Magdoros, or a pack of Rathians, or just thrown off a cliff in Astera for being the village idiot?

Speaking of mods, we just got around to Teostra today, and the famous particle effect megalag/megastutter/intermittent slideshow that many people are experiencing (and that I knew I'd also be experiencing) was INCREDIBLE. I haven't seen anything like it in 31 years of playing computer games.

Luckily, just today, one modder managed to fix what dozens of Japanese professional game developers have so far failed to figure out while picking their teeth with their tiny little retarded dicks:

Has anyone managed to defeat Extreme Behemoth yet? I can only utilize random players, which usually produces terrible results. So far, I've only reached the final area once.

If you can't damage him enough in the third area, he will constantly summon Ecliptic Meteor (without comets to hide behind) until you reach the damage threshold or die.

Someone used the jump emote to survive six meteors before finally reaching the threshold (playing solo), but most random players will never get the timing correct to evade one:

Anyone know the most efficient way to farm miasma jewels?

The jewels you receive are random, so your best bet is to farm tempered monsters (tier one or two), or complete the "Triple Threat Showdown" event quest (should be currently available on both console and PC). The event quest is decent when farming low level jewels if you don't have access to tempered monsters yet, which includes the miasma jewels.

If you're needing the decorations to face Vaal Hazak, you should just carry Nulberries instead, which cure the tainted ailment. Do note that Vaal's miasma will still deal minor damage while you remain inside it, even with protection (you just wont become tainted anymore). Once defeated, his armor set has the effluvia protection built in. The Girros Coil waist armor has the Effluvia Expert ability, which negates the standard miasma in the Rotten Vale (but not Vaal Hazak's effluvium), and decreases the damage taken while in acid pools.

I got lucky getting Miasma jewels prior to Vaal Hazak, although we really, REALLY like to take our time. Someone else would probably be HR 50 by now or something.

I like how Vaal Hazak's and Kushala Daora's extremely obnoxious gimmicks can only be countered with their armor and charms, guaranteeing (unless you've had lucky jewel drops) suffering through their unavoidable gimmicks the first time you fight them.

Kushala Daora's was the worst. I couldn't reach or even see that fucker 50% of the time; 25% of the time that I could see and almost reach it, I either got blown back by some passive "wind mantle," or else was knocked back simply by touching its completely immobile wingtip or forewing (I was playing insect glaive, which didn't help at all).

If Windproof is the only viable way to get past that obnoxious bullshit, I swear to fuck I'm going to uninstall this fucking game on the spot. I tried sprinting around the tornadoes, sprinting across the room away from the tornadoes (the metallic cunt would just follow and queef out additional tornadoes in that part of the room), Farcastering away and just eating in camp for a while hoping they'd despawn, but in the end I had to spend 50%+ of my time blind, being knocked back, and unable to reach the cheating cunt or else we'd have run out of time.

It's not hard at all, just extremely, EXTREMELY obnoxious.

I was trying to fight him with a hammer. Every tiny knockback would make me drop my charge. I ended up killing him with something like 2 minutes left on the clock. Also, not a big fan of the hammer this time around. Maybe I'll give it another try after becoming immune to a bunch of shit, but it really seems like yet another 'this is for multiplayer' weapon. There's just not that many chances to hit something dangerous in the face when you're solo, and the knockout isn't valuable enough without other people to capitalize.

That said, I did figure out one important thing for Kushala: Dragon pods are shit. Spam that fucker with crystal pods and you'll strip away that wind shield in no time. Unfortunately I didn't know where most of them were.

Teostra was a much more fun fight, took him down with my holy sabers, fuck that elderseal garbage. Did get caught by his super nova immediately after sleep bombing him, pretty bullshit move. Didn't kill me though, fire res ftw.

I have a handy tell that lets me know when Teostra is about to do his ultimate: megalag. That new mod fixes the lag caused by the rest of his abilities, but the ultimate still causes a good deal of it, prompting me to sprint/roll/superman away even if I haven't been paying attention.

Teostra and Vaal Hazak are great, but Kushala is fucking garbage, absolute trash, worthless fucking time-wasting nonsense that should be deleted. Even cave-dwelling 4chan hermits with 20,000 combined hours in the portable Monster Hunters don't like the new implementation of it.

The only problem with Fartbreath is that he waves his butthole snake face around like a wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man, and all of his shit requires 50 fangs that only come from his butthole snake face.

I think MHW bring biggest change to Elder Dragons from all previous MH games.
Unlike before there is now clear distinction between Wyverns/Othermonsters and Elder Dragons and that difference is vast.

Like for example new Teostra. It doesn't even care about you when it sees you. And it is logical what top of the food chain wouldn't care about some human. If you attack it then it doesn't also go full hardcore on you. It treats you like a joke. "Some puny human dared to attack me ?" It plays with you for a while and then when you actually hurt it it starts to wind up and when it is close to death then it is the most desperate unleashing hardest hits trying to save its life.

In older games Teostra is just fucking wyvern from behavior that shits fire and virtually nothing about it is interesting.

As for old Kushala it is not even worth mentioning it. IT had all annoying abilities you experience but without actually being dangerous or interesting to fight. I mean even Rathalos looked better than it and was more interesting to fight.

edit:

Speaking of which i would love for devs to comeback to "defeat/retreat" mechanic from previous games that lost in process a while ago. Meaning that to hunt Elder Dragons you would have to fight with them multiple times before you even kill them once, so if you would cut tail of some Elder Dragon it wouldn't have that tail on next fight. So by fighting him few times you would gradually weaken him and then finally you would kill it. With such mechanic Elder Dragons could be places as their supposed name "natural diseasters" and could be only encountered randomly when you do other quests.

Though considering low amount of content of MHWi think their choice with e.dragons is better in this case.
They kind of have it with Zoras and final one as you can only hunt it every now and then but imho it not that interesting design as above.

Windproof doesn't even work against the real heavy winds Kushala puts up during the fight. For that, you need Negate Wind Pressure which is obtained only through....the 3 piece bonus of her set, lol. Fortunately it's a good fucking set at least. I believe if you poison her it stops her from generating the black winds as well. At least it did in previous games, so I'm told / have read.

To be clear, he had no tell at all before doing the move. I bombed him, which broke his face so he fell over, and the moment he got up he jumped into the air, and the wind pressure held me in place long enough I couldn't get out of range. I suppose I could have dived if I had any idea what the timing was. Or had any fucking energy left after smashing him on the ground in demon mode.

Yeah I know, that's the one I meant. It's much the same with Vaal Hazak and the easy Effluvia immunity skill being totally useless against him, although in Baal Sazak's case jewels will also do the trick.

I've seen various rumors that poison may have been nerfed versus elders in MHW, but that might only apply to the tempered variants. People claim using lots of flash pods works pretty well also on non-tempered Kushala.

At one point during the fight, I was pinned by several tornadoes for nearly a minute and couldn't do anything. I couldn't walk, sprint, jump, roll, or even stand up. Then I got fainted because, well, I couldn't more or do anything, nor see anything for that matter. If I'd thought of it I might have tried to use a Farcaster, but I'd never encountered such a time-wasting stupid mechanic designed by complete morons before, so it didn't occur to me.

Yeah, we've had trouble identifying a proper tell for Teostra's ultimate as well. The only real tell that I've seen is when he kips up to float in that particular way, which is way too damned late of a tell in my opinion. I mean, you'll know he's more and more likely to do it as he gets progressively sparkly and crackly, but as for knowing exactly when, the kip up into the float is the only tell I've noticed.
