Half damage, same as the reflex saves for all the evocation spells except rogues can't use Evasion against it.

Is the hill giant stone attack the same? I believe it is but not sure if my reflex saves were over 20 when I fought them.

Also really enjoyed the hobgoblin boss fights. I was lvl 12 against gorav and used my familiar to get him to attack and reveal himself while I had haste and improved invisibility cast. I came up and cast true strike and quickly finished the fight.

I did a similar thing in the goblin fortress, this time at lvl 13 having gained stoneskin I cast it on my familiar and positioned myself to flank gorav while under extended haste. Then took care of the wizard and the aranea. With freedom scroll, aranea can't do much but try acid fog but I can protect against that. I used a scroll of greater magic weapon the paladin +3, with scrolls of bless, and prayer and my war domain ability and empowered bulls strength, I had 26 Strength and my ab was over 20. True strike gives the character the ab of an epic level fighter for a round. I'm very excited to meet the hobgoblins again. I'm having a lot of fun with this build and try the tough battles with different handicaps and they can seem impossible at times.

My AC was over 40 and I had stoneskin but gorav still got me for 30 HP before he went down. It seems like his ab and ac increased in the second encounter.

The fights are challenging but fair. Really feels like an epic adventure and it's always satisfying to win a big fight.

Fire beetles in the cave during the vampire dragon cult quest were a great fight. I dont have elemental shield or energy buffer yet, I have the scrolls but want to save them. Luckily I have a cleric level and the DM included a rod for clerics that casts ice storm and call lightning. I had my party stand their ground, they took some damage but all survived. One of the challenges I set for myself is to always keep my party members alive and not to use the resurrection feature unless I'm really stuck. Haven't had to use it yet. Again the game is tough but fair. When you have over 40 ac and are 50% concealed and have stone skin and over 25 st and all saves over 20, it's a tough fight for any enemies I've encountered so far. I also get to use scrolls of negative energy protection. Haven't yet faced an opponent with true sight but I'm just getting to lvl 2 of the cult dungeon.

Can you buff up and cast spells normally with tensers transformation? Or does it increase your stats and cap them there and disable spell casting? I'm trying to find the answer online but I'm not clear on it. From what I've read, your ac items don't add ac when under the spell, not sure on everything else.

The NWN implementation of the spell works like a polymorph, so it disables equipment bonuses to AC, yes. You also cannot cast spells while transformed, but buffs you cast beforehand will remain in effect. Note that Tenser's spawns a new weapon in your character's hands, so spells like Flame Weapon will not transfer to the new form.

Yeah it would actually make my PC weaker I think, if I'm extended hasted with 26 st and Bab 7, I don't think I'm benefiting that much from TT but I'm a noob and could be wrong.

Edit: to be clear, if my St is higher than 22 when I cast the spell, will my St drop?

Yes, but if you have Bull's Strength active, for example, then your strength will be 22 + (1d4+1) after the transformation. Or it should, at any rate, I never used the spell and there could be peculiarities about how they implemented it I'm not aware of.

Ok yeah that's why I ask because the implementation of rules in crpgs can vary and be different in game from their descriptions and are sometimes bugged also. I'll play around with it when I get to that point.

Finished HOTU for the first time recently. Admittedly I've owned NWN for years, even took a stab at the editor back in the day,but never actually played through the expansions until now. I remember thinking I was hot shit for making the start location of my module different depending on alignment, but seeing what was possible in HOTU blew my socks off. The grappling hook parts of Act 3 would no doubt get annoying during replays but the fact it even existed in the first place I found pretty neat.

Starting some custom modules now. I plan on 'working my way up' to Swordflight, seeing as how it's supposedly pretty difficult and I'm still learning the ropes on good builds. Trying Aieland Saga atm but despite the praise it gets the spelling, gramatical errors and overall writing I'm finding pretty grating. I'll check this thread and maybe some of Lilura's list. Glad to see this thread is still kicking, cheers fellas

I just can't past the lustiness of it, I either gotta fap or use two hands to control my cleric abilities, not both at the same time.

Yes, you can make Reflex Saves for half damage against the "Hurl Rocks" special ability.

Can you buff up and cast spells normally with tensers transformation...

One interesting feature of Tenser's Transformation is that under its polymorphing effects you are considered to be an Elf. In Swordflight this can sometimes be used to access content normally restricted to elves (though some quest-givers may also be smart enough to realize that is not your real race). It also creates a known NWN exploit allowing you to take Arcane Archer levels even if not the correct race for that (assuming you are otherwise eligible for that class). Due to its disabling your ability to cast and items though, it is generally not worth bothering with aside from a few specialized uses like that.

Does anyone have thoughts on the shadow conjuration and shades spells?

Mostly just another way to cast spells you can already cast using lower level memorization slots, so generally also not worth bothering with aside from a handful of specialized situations.

You can probably find answers to a lot of your questions on the NWN Wiki.

Thanks and I have studied that wiki and try to figure everything out before I ask anything here. I again thank everyone in this thread for their kindness. I've actually gone back and looked at this thread for more info on Swordflight and nwn in general.

I defeated the dragon just with my PC lvl 13 at ac 45 by casting true strike while power attacking which had my ab slightly over 40. I didn't use the ring or the scimitar for an added challenge.

The vampire monk fight was interesting and probably the toughest for my PC and I tried to do it on my own but after a few reloads I just attracted aggro from them and then had jalar come in while concealed to flank. They never attacked him and just stayed focused on me.

Not sure if that's how they fight or if it was some type of bug in my game.

Oh and one other thing I noticed, they saved against ice storm. I thought that always hits.

You cannot save against or evade Ice Storm, but it can be blocked by Spell Resistance. Since monks tend to have a lot of such resistance, perhaps that is what happened?

I apologize, I was mistaken, they didn't save, they resisted it and took 0 damage.

War domain isn't optimal but feels thematically suited because of its original description:

"The most ancient of Dwarven warriors are the Elder Ones; they have learned well the art of war."

About to start the final quest of chapter 2, its been a great journey. Really enjoyed the bloody blades side quest, undersea artifact quest was very interesting as well.

The showdown in the sewers was an awesome fight, it was also when 2 of my party members decided to bug out and not attack anything even when ordered to. I also ran into a strange bug where sometimes I reload and my character is on the ground like he's dead and can't move. If I use an item, he will stand up, use it then fall again. Very strange but luckily I always have multiple saves going just in case.

Another bug I got was the camera spinning during cinematics. Other than that, I have had no issues and I consider those very minor overall.

I didn't have Zagash with me and it seems like there's no way for me to go back to the wererat encampment with him in order to complete the quest. Maybe I'm missing something, I never found an exit to go to other parts of the sewers while in the city gates sewer.

Sometimes being pseudo-dead when reloading is a known NWN bug that I believe is caused by saving the game when badly wounded. Since when reloading the character is loaded before his items and the bonuses they apply, if you are only being kept alive by a constitution bonus from an item or something of that sort you can reload with 0 HP and be considered sort of dead. You should be able to avoid it by making sure to heal somewhat before saving. You can also get out of the state by using the "dm_heal" debug mode command.

IIRC correctly once you have been there you should be able to return either to the wererat encampment or to the Consuming Fire compound and from there to the sewers beneath, and from various points, so not sure what is happening there. Unless you had already returned to the Galhadr estate triggering the endgame which imposes a lot of restrictions on where you can go at that point. If necessary I should be able to come up with debug mode "cheat codes" to let you complete Zagash quest if you really want to.

That is probably what happened, I'm not sure I'd have to look and see if I kept a save when pseudo dead but I'll keep that in mind when saving moving forward.

I did enter the estate but didn't speak to anyone but either way I'm ok with not finishing it.
