Hi folks

Caereena - Krakona Rising is just stellar hack'n'slash epic module even if the series was never finished (cuz data for the sequel was lost as author said). Though it's strating with a 20 lvl action prologue felt like another big adventure's grand finale so cliffhanger looks like a tolerable option for the "without beginning or end' story concept. 20-33 lvl range, tons of unique items, tough fights, charming hand-crafted alien setting and the best - given the fact I've played major part of Vault's mainstream top modules and dozens of unpretentious ones - area desing I've ever seen. Truly overloocked gem of DnD ARPG.

Any time is good mate. I didnt even finish SF but you bought me for all times, much like Cleve

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
I'm not sure exactly which level of desperation lead me to trying SoU, I just wanted a decent classic style RPG with no bullshit. Something where I could bash rats and such.

It actually, kind of delivered. I just got to the end of the first chapter and I would compare the experience structurally to the first chapter of the Witcher 1. Very fun, not too much talking but enough and well realised locations even if everything looks incredibly dorky in 3D. You can fill n the gaps with your imagination just fine.

It was the experience I was hoping to get from going back to Dragon Age origins which sadly ended in me uninstalling that shit in disgust.

So, question for he thread. Is the first chapter of SoU a fluke or is it good example of the rest of the non-OC NWN content? The J'han fight was hilarious.

Also, why the fuck did they call it Shadow of Urine Tide?

Chapter 2 is far worse than chapter 1 but HotU is in turn far better than SoU.

Man, so it sticks to the Witcher formula then? Does it pick up after that?

Why are all of these games designed to break my fragile heart.

I actually like Shadows of Undrentide better than Hordes of the Underdark. I like the low-level start, APR notwithstanding, Chapter 1 has a bit of an open feel to it, the desert Interlude is pretty cool and Chapter 2 has one of the coolest environments of any campaign but, sadly, it's woefully underutilised. A shame, the game needed just a bit more dev time. The dungeons are pretty cool though, and I like the overall pacing.

HotU, on the other hand, has the more interesting plot and updated companions, it kicks off strong with its Chapter 1 megadungeon, its final chapter also has an exceptionally cool setting but, unfortunately, its middle episode is in the Underdark. And it doesn't matter how many Mindflayers and leather teddies you throw at it, the Underdark is where boredom goes to die... of boredom.

A horse of course

Hordes of the Underdark is great. When I was a kid, I was at the scene where the Valsharess tries to seduce you when my sister walked in to tell me to go eat dinner. She looked at the screen and gave me a look of such unmitigated disgust that I've never forgotten it. :smug:

Both SoU and HotU are good. SoU starts strong but looses some steam by the end. That's ok, because it isn't terribly long. It's very much worth finishing. Then take your character to HotU. I felt like it started a bit slow, but it picks up quickly enough. Both are fun.

Wow, sounds like I'm at the half way mark. Didn't expect that.

So it sounds like chapter 1 of SoU is generally considered exceptional, I'll see how steep the decline gets but at least know not to get my hopes up too high.

What people don't get is that actually SoU > HotU > OC. Of course HotU is larger/longer but it's a garbled mess, SoU at least is consistent and cleanly executed

The stuff this module forces (okay, heavily encourages) you to equip looks... interesting...

Yeah, those helmets. Personally I think SoU is better than HotU, but Hordes is full of really nice ideas questions, if you finish the first chapter. The Undermountain is really boring, but after that it gets good.

The desert stuff left me a little cold but this chapter 2 stuff is choice.

Feels like a different game to the first half but the second part is right up my alley in it's own way.

Disabling golems remotely.
Rewriting magic books.
Never dying.

Also the tone of the depressing stories before you rewrite gave me a Have No Mouth and I Must Scream vibe, it gets all happy feel good five minutes later but I'll take what I can get.

It's fantastic finding out I missed something this decent, makes me excited to see what else is out there.

AdamReith Glad you're enjoying it. SoU is a really fun module. If I remember correctly, you can briefly go to hell to visit someone sent their for their crimes. It's relevant to this particular story. I do not remember invulnerability, but I don't remember any combat in that portion either. It's a very brief section of the game.
