Don't you have lots of spare items to sell? I do agree that -20k is really bad, though.

I've already sold every spare item I had and it barely made a dent. I rarely get frustrated with games, but this is just ridiculous if there isn't a reasonable way to deal with it.

Hey Jinn. I wouldn't worry. I'm sure they don't screw u like that for good. U probably will knock that debt out by finding treasures and such. Hang in there comrade! :)

Thanks to this thread I decided to give this game a chance. This is the reason I frequent this forum honestly, I would've likely dismissed an addictive and enjoyable game as a low-effort mediocre cash grab otherwise. Hopefully it won't wear out its welcome.

Don't have much to say which hasn't been said already. I did suffer one embarrassing party wipe (*), and upon assembling the backup team the game basically said "yo if you screw up again it's game over man". Wouldn't expect the possibility of permanently losing your progress (**) in a 2021 Square Enix game but here we are.

(*) "Hey this encounter seems to be much tougher than everything else on the floor. But I'm a big boy. I post on the RPG Codex. I can handle this. Worst case scenario, I'll just run away. What could go wrong?" Turns out, pretty much everything.

(**) You'd have to be pretty dumb to actually achieve this though, since you can pick and choose encounters at your leisure and can avoid anything nasty until you resurrect your main guys.

I haven't played it yet, but my concerns of it being simplistic were obviously wrong. Sounds like they streamlined the genre in one of the most genius ways imaginable. Now I'm fucking pissed at the dipshits on Steam. Hopefully sales go well for this and more people are encouraged to incline the RPG genre. I am really tired of sequels and dumbed down bullshit.

Oh, looks like yet another of Newgrounds dungeon crawlers, a cheap clone of Monster's Den. Why would anyone pay for it, I wonder...

This is where I'm at too. Decided to take the plunge and shell out for it, will check it out soon. Whether I like it or not, I will say that there's exactly 0% chance I'd have given it a second look without the positive reception here.

Ran into a high-numbered encounter despite my better judgement and went up against some Level 74 Monks that wiped my level 19-20 party in two turns, so I spent most of my session tonight running a rescue mission and leveling up a secondary party. Managed to dig myself 10k out of my 20k debt during this, so it's not super terrible, especially considering I was mainly fighting on the upper levels of the dungeon. Still taking a decent amount of time regardless. Luckily I haven't really had to buy anything, as I had a nice stash of equipment built up from right before my party wiped.

Anyway, rescued my main party, got all my secondary party back to the Academy in the starting village, and am primed and ready to start crawling further down. Such a good game. So addictive.

Fun Fact, the Steam rating is almost exactly the same as for Elminage Gothic at the moment, standing at roughly 65% with 160 reviews.
Steamtards get filtered by Dungeon Crawlers easily.

This is one of the more bizarre and "pure" games I've played recently. It's like 16 bit ATB Final Fantasy had a kid with the original NES Final Fantasy, Bravely Default, and Pac-Man in some sort of twisted orgy and this is what popped out.

It's very relaxing at least at the beginning and I really wish I would've picked it up on the Switch instead of the PC, but maybe I'll double dip if it sticks for me. I'm also glad that it suspends and saves whenever you're ready to quit, so you don't have to tediously trek back up to the first floor or anything. I had figured you'd have to since the first floor has all the shops and no encounters, like "town", but I was relieved that that isn't the case.

Are there shops further in, or do you have to bite the bullet and go all the way back if you want to buy stuff?

It blows my mind that Squenix started putting out reasonably decent games again, at least under some of their titles.

I forgot to add: the keyboard controls are fantastic. I was trying to use my mouse and the arrow keys at first which was awkward. It took me a few floors to notice that it's literally WASD and IJKL so you can just play two handed and it feels great.

Ito is basically Japanese Sawyer in terms of focus on gameplay (though more experimental). He's also behind Triple Triad in FF8.

Oof, this game is already terrorizing me and I've only made it to the 5th floor, lol. :D Wizards, had to learn they reflect magic by hitting them with a 250 Power Maliare 2. OOF. Heh. Things are getting rough already and I had to make a couple trips back to surface to try and regroup and regear. Loving it, this is the GOOD stuff. Dungeon crawling done exquisitely well imo. Rock on! :)
