I noticed that, too. There seems to be some mechanism that could make the player freeze, but the colorful dinosaurs are unfazed. They even have little winglets to radiate surplus heat, wherever that comes from.

Even better, getting materials for your base could actually make you want to explore more, in order to to find scarce raw materials etc. Puzzling.

That requires true autism to make lots of systems and simulations that work together.
