Very well, you indeed have a valid point. Nevertheless, it is not like Notch would be excactly poor, and also SE has had pretty impressive sales numbers. What I mean, unless you are Tarn Adams and prefer caverns, it is altogether possible to leave basement with the help of money earned by developing complex simulationist stuff with building and all. That requires true autism to make lots of systems and simulations that work together. We don't have base-building. And the reason is, it would just make people want to stay where they are and not explore.

Why on earth he won't let people to enjoy their game like they themselves see fit? I mean, base building or whatever you call this lego stuff is pretty much the reason I personally like like open world procedural games like Minercraft and Space Engineers.
Even better, getting materials for your base could actually make you want to explore more, in order to to find scarce raw materials etc. Puzzling.
Not a fancy procedural terrain generator that bamboozles the gullible with how pretty the screenshots are and rakes in the cash.
So things like base-building: we don't have base-building. And the reason is, it would just make people want to stay where they are and not explore. And we've built this whole huge universe, and that would be a shame! We want them to go out and explore. Or, for instance, each planet could contain loads of different biomes within it, we could have polar ice caps, and all that kind of thing, but then it wouldn't make you want to go and visit other planets. So we don't have that, and that's really purposeful, and that's our kind of vision for the game.
Races have different specializations. Some are more military-focused, others have a more scientific focus and so forth. As a certain type of player you might favor certain races, and since they don’t all get along, you may have to choose who to side with. For instance, if you’re an explorer, you may want to ally yourself with a scientific race, to acquire their technology. They will also like you more by default, because exploring grants you tech, and scientific races like players that have more tech.
The better your standing with the race is, the more options with them you open, like trading, buying ships and weapons, or even receiving things for free if they really like you.
The more you interact with NPCs the better standing you have with their race, as long as your behavior is positive. If you behave like a “jerk” you lower your standing with them.
Aliens speak to you in their alien languages and you have to learn them. You can learn new words by chatting to them or finding relics.
Exploring more allows you to survive better, as you find more technologies and resources. The longer you survive, the more you can access higher level content, like trading, which allows you to gather resources and bring them to an NPC or a space station or trading post.
Protection from extreme cold is another possible suit upgrade, but that protection will eventually wear down and then you’ll start taking damage in a cold planet.
At this point I'm starting to get excited about the release of No Man's Sky. Not because I'm going to buy it but because I want to see the reaction to the released game.
One way or another that reaction is going to be epic.
Can this thing be any more boring. He walks around at a glacial pace being completely ignored by the dinosaurs (which look the same on all planets, btw) doing absolutely nothing.
Later on he shoots some spaceships. This game is more like a $60 screensaver than a thing you can play.
Still some of the butthurt will be felt in forums etc.
If you can actually play them, no. If instead you just watch some bearded hipster in a plaid shirt, yes.Is it bad that I enjoy my games ?
Will you make a LP?
We are doing things that technically haven't been done ever before in any video game
the multiplayer will feel like dark souls or journey
when you reach the center of the universe.......... gameplay elements will open up and you will have further reason to play
It's because it's the only game with real physics, the other ones' are faked.
In this game, you can see as far as curvature of the planets allow (and the physics rationally explain the 20m details pop-up).
The guy, however technically proficient he is, reminds me of this:
