This game has the scale of my LEGO creations when I was a kid. 2 planetscastles 30cm from each other.

"I was at the Expo yesterday(which was just the expo day for invitees, no conferences were held), but my friend who invited me did say that Sean Murray had presented the game to actual employees of Gamestop the night before, but she unfortunately(and understandably) didn't have an exhaustive memory of information regarding the game like we do, so she couldn't say if anything shown was really new.

I probed her for some new info, but the only thing worthwhile I can think to mention is that in the demo they were apparently just picking stars and flying to them in instants--but she was unable to tell if it was a godmode or actual gameplay that that was being presented in.

Edit: Granted, that bit of info could've been simply misremembered, and probably not too much to call home about. I think it's safe to say that their wasn't anything new shown.

Edit 2: Oh, oh! And she saw ruins on one of the planets. So there's that."

"He asked me if knew about the game and I told him I've been following it pretty intensely with "the hopes of hearing some hint that Lovecraftian cosmic monsters will be included somewhere." He laughed pretty hard at this and I felt satisfied with the nerd points I had scored."

and then consider the fact there are even larger terrestrial planets out there. If it takes only seconds to get from planet surface to outer space like the second point seems to indicate, there's no way they'll be even close to "planet sized".

That really depends on how their speed works. For example ship could have multiple modes where for planets or near planets there will be different speed, for surface different and when you leave planet and you will try to reach other stars you will use hyperdrive or some other shit like that.
This is almost like any other space game out there.

Guys from Crate&Crowbar discuss what they saw at GamesCom.
http://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTh...s_from_cratecrowbar_discuss_what_they_saw_at/
  • Sean in Debug mode zooming in an out on a planet.
  • Emphasis on 'procedural' as opposed to 'random'.
  • Why weird aliens from what we know in most fiction won't appear, eg. you'll rarely mistake an alien life-form for a tree. you should be able to recognise what's alive and what's not.
  • No rewards for killing creatures.
  • Rewards for either naming/claiming stuff you find, OR finding other player's named/claimed stuff.
  • Solution for making things you find significant. The 90/10 rule.
  • Mushrooms.
  • Might be able to place a 'mining unit' ?
  • Relatively little hard drive space ? Everything is derived from base models and animation rigs.

If you can call seeing subtle variations in creatures unique, then yes, every player's experience will be unique.

Also, why do so many of the screenshots look so washed out?

65daysofstatic’s Paul Wolinski about Science Fiction, Nostalgia and “No Man’s Sky”

http://realvirtuality.info/2014/09/...ut-science-fiction-nostalgia-and-no-mans-sky/

"Are you still involved with the video game “No Man’s Sky”? Can you tell me anything about that?

I cannot. (he grins) I can tell you that they did this trailer, about a year ago now, for some big games conferences and they used “Debutante” and then they used “PX3″ for another trailer. It just exploded in the games world and it’s really exciting to be associated with that on that basic level.

Did that register with you at all? Did people actually buy some music?

I don’t know if they bought the music. I don’t think many people do that anymore, but there is a regular stream of people on Twitter or Facebook constantly going “Thanks to Hello Games for introducing me to 65daysofstatic, these guys are great”. That’s trickling in. And it’s really good to be associated with that as a thing, because it’s not a world I follow particularly closely, but everything I’ve seen about that game – as soon as they contacted us about using the music for the trailer, they sent some screenshots through. I went: Ah, that looks like those sci-fi book covers I read as a teenager, and everything I’ve heard them talk about is that they don’t just want to do another shooting game. It’s all about exploring the universe. So I said: Okay. That sounds like something that’s nice for 65 to be associated with."

a) you're the only one who gives a fuck, so you can stop posting about it already.
b) do you have permission by chris thursten to reproduce his article in its entirety here, or are did you just commit intellectual property theft?
