neways $25 fucking T-shirts?! WTF are they made of gold thread?

If you are looking for reasonably priced upper body wear, Kickstarter may not be the best option for you. This is supposed to be about raising money to release a game, not stealing away marketshare from underneath the Salvation Army's nose. The shirt is just an enticement for further donations. And the price isn't even that different from other online grift stores, which only exist to trade goods. Hell, for only eighteen dollars you can get the shit beaten out of you by enraged minorities for wearing a Codex T-shirt. It comes in seven exciting colours which are suitable for any season, and bears only the highest quality Chinese stitching.

Is it an effective strategy? Not for me, but I don't doubt that some people would be interested.

BTW, in that interview Sawyer seems to confirm Fallout-esque open world and non-linearity, and character perma-death which I don't recall having been directly stated before.

In a very early interview MCA stated he (basically) fucking HATES linear games, so open world is pretty much a given.

I guess that's why how in Torment you can basically do whatever you want, as long as it's in the prescribed order.

No ressurection? What kind of bullshit magic is this?

No healing spells? Extreme rare healing spells? What kind of magic allows you to do all sorts of awesome over the top magik yet you can't cure booboos with it? That's fukkin' retartet. There's no logic (lol logic magic lol) behind that. It is just cowardice that makes one design that kind of crap. FFS

Yet, I bet resting will heal you tip top or in retarted temples. FFS

"Resurrection is a total retarded mechanic in cRPG's. It needs to die.

In a fire."

No. If done the right way it can be awesome. That means, not having it available in temples for the low low price of 500 dollars. that's fukkin' LAME.

There are some GENIUS ways to make it AWESOME and not CHEAP.

But, hey, let's have retarts nerf magic so badly for no desercnible reason to make it wussy.

MAGIC SHOULD BE FUKKIN' MAGIC.

It's called MAGIC for a FUKKIN' REASON.

FUCK YEAH MAGIC!

Once again, ToEE did it fucking right.

Early on in the game, bringing a character back to life was pretty punishing. You lost a lot of gold, lost a level, and potentially got your race changed as well. In my game, my cleric died the most. He was therefore a lot lower level than everyone else and it had a direct impact on the game where I started to think fuck I gotta keep this bro alive. I protected him a lot more after about 2/3 deaths.

I think permadeath is fine, but it's kind of stupid in some ways in a cRPG. You can always just reload to an earlier save if you want (see BG CRITILOL EXPLODEZ deaths) so it totally trivializes it. Sure you can LARP it as much as you want, but fuck that shit if you think that I am gonna not just reload if my char that I put tonnes of work into to customize just dies suddenly and I can't get them back. It's hardcore for people with HEAPS of time on their hands, but that ain't me no more. It's different when a party member leaves because they are not happy with what you're doing in the game (in my current BGT playthrough I lost Kivan for fucking around for too long), but having a char deleted because they got exploded by a critical is silly.

Again, ToEE did this well, as there was a time limit on when you could actually get a party member raised. Again this gains much more meaning in a game where there are certain time constraints perhaps placed on side quests. The first time you play the game through perhaps you can't do all the side quests because too many people died and you lost lots of time carting them back to Temples/Churches to raise them. Next time play better and you get to do more quests. 3E also handled death better with negative HP and the ability to heal someone back to 0 HP where they were not dead but simply unconscious. I liked these improvements quite a bit. I can remember many 2nd edition PnP bros I started who just fucking died in the first encounter with a goblin, while the other guys just kept going, I had to re roll, re write the char sheet. It was fun at first but yeah after a while it gets tiresome.

That has NOTHING to do with 3E 'handling it better'. That was in 2E first. And, hell, IIRC, it was also in earlier editions. 3E is nuttin special just steal ideas from eaRlier versions. BIG WHOOP.

Oh really? I never knew about it in earlier versions...hmmm

But 3E added more feats to deal with it better right? My memory is rusty been a long time since I read the DM/Players handbooks.

edit: Volourn do you hate 3E? why? I think what it did for combat in D&D was amazing, especially Melee, but my background is mainly in Advanced and 2nd Ed D&D so I am curious.

I think permadeath is a pretty cool thing for this kind of game! Still, I keep hoping for a game that will give you a resurrection spell, and actually use it in ways to change the plot and the story. But I never expected Eternity to be that game, anyway.

I love 3E; but a lot of its features were alreayd apart of 2E (or ealrier versions) either in the same form or different. ie. Non combat skills were called non weapon proficiencies or secondary skills in 2E. optional bleeding rules (including the -10hp used in or one based on con), etc.

It just shouldn't get credit for creating something it didn't.

In a game about souls it would makes sense that resurrection spells attract the nearest soul to the body. So the longer the time lapsed until a corpse is resurrected the less chance that it will have the same soul. That could have all sorts of awesome potential.
