My game is still crashing like a mofo, and causing blue screens now and then. I had to stop playing, because CTD every 15 minutes was more frustraing than sucking at Dark Souls. Memory and disk tests showed nothing, other games and apps work normally. Maybe some higher power just does not want me to play MMOs.

What OS you running? My experience is that STO tends to destabilize a lot more on XP than Win7 x64.

Win7 64-bit. The game started crashing after one of the updates, either Season #9 or the one after that. It worked rock solid stable before that.

You could always delete and re-download and re-patch if you have a week or 2 to spare.

For some reason the STO file servers are the slowest object known to man.

Gais! Gais!

  • A new Featured Project has been made available to Fleets that have already completed their Tier 5 Starbases.
    • This project requires no other inputs than 2000 Fleet Marks.
    • It is specifically designed to supply large fleets with a steady stream of Fleet Credits in return for surplus Fleet Marks.
    • The Fleet Credits received from this project are *HALF* of what is received from all other projects.
    • This project completes in 5 minutes after all inputs are filled.

They pulled a fast one on us!

You had me until this bit. I'd rather go through the torture of fleet switching than lose half my space shekels :keepmyjewgold:

Strange, I have the exact opposite experience, that the game was mega-unstable in XP32, crashing frequently in the middle of BZ, but completely stable on 7x64.

I am running it in Win7 64-bit and it crashed only once for me. But i had accidently kicked my computer, so I deserved my fate.
Have you tried lowering/switching off graphic options? Or switching to DX9?
I had one of those crash-every-15-minutes-bonanzas with Fallout 3 back then, turned out it was sound related. Similar situation with Skyrimjob. The lightnings in the Soul Cairn crashed my game because the sample rate of my soundcard was strangly changed to something higher than the usual 44100 16bit. Sound issues are an often overlooked problem.

Anyone have any advice on a carrier build?

I'm guessing KDF, and I already have a Tac KDF at 50 which I'd happily respec ... or is Sci the way to go?

I'm sorta imagining sitting 9kms out, sitting on my ginormous buttocks (Vo'Quv or Kar'Fi), slinging torps and unleashing hanger pets and Scorpions (via Vault device). But is it better to go Tac with Torp Buffs & Attack Patterns, or Sci for Wells/Drains/Photonic Fleet pets?

Tacs won't cut it on Carriers that aren't hybrids, KDF doesn't have many of those outside of lockbox ships. The thing is that normal Carriers like Vo'quv or specialized ones like Kar'Fi do not synch well with Tacs. Mirror Vo'quv just won't have firepower in abundance (also beam broadside is the superior choice for Carriers) since it's limited to six slots and LtCmdr Tac boff, while Kar'Fi will be made of tissue paper if the captain isn't an Engineer. On a pure Carrier the turn rate is also so low that Torps have no utility. The idea for dealing damage is that your own beams help batter down the target shields, and then either your Scorpion Fighters torpedo salvos or your Dyson Drone antiproton Overload beams deal the spike.

Personally I think for a pure the best class is Engineer (probably the only ship type they excel at IMO), as they can bolster the durability of the ship and provide high all-around power levels (so they can turn slightly less sluggishly, keep highest firepower levels, have powerful shields, and can Grav Well and shit out fighters perfectly).

I fly the Kar'Fi with my Ferasan Engineer, and I couldn't think of another class doing as well. Kar'Fi comes with gimped defensive capability, and you need an Engineer to patch that weak spot up. On the other hand, Kar'Fi can mount quad Double Beam Banks efficiently and have enough boffs to keep FAW on rotation.

Now the choice is between Mirror Voq and Kar'Fi, unless you want a lockbox Carrier (supposedly the Tholian one is the king of all carriers).

Yeah. Tried out a Voq briefly on a friend's account. Very solid but the Kar'Fi does seem better on paper at least. Plus I like the environmentally non-sensitive engines on those bastards; it looks like it is powered by coal.

Hmmm ... will have time to consider this as I slowly build up my Zen pile.

(I'm definately not going to bother with lockboxes for the Tholian or the Jem'Hadar ... that way lies madness, methinks.)

Has anything new and interesting been added lately?

I'm sick to death of Blade & Soul. >.<

If you are Blue or Yellow, it is. If you are Red, the Jemmy is hawkesome in a jar.

Is the Scimitar still IMBA?

Whether or not the Hellcarrier is better depends on how you play. If you are all 'lone ranger' it is best as you can pull a pretty sexy 'siege carrier' with it. If you play in an organized fleet the Voq is better, and you can play two roles with a single build by switching the science boffs depending on whether you want or need to go full control, full healboat, or a mix. It can pull some DPS with a good leech build, nothing crazy but good enough, and it can tank like crazy if you fly full healer and with the proper fleet equips.

Edit: Is the Atrox still the saddest motherfucker around? I love that ship, but really... :(

Jem'Hadar Dreadnaught is Lobi store tho, so it shouldn't be considered casually.

Atrox is still doomed to default Voq seating.

Scimitar is still astonishingly good, but its console set turn rate bonus is no longer as massive. Personally I fly a D'deridex nowadays due to Derpidex being a better tank and can always carry a LtC Sci on top.

They've added, lessee, you were last around before Dyson season but after we finished the Mine holding I think... Yea, they've added two new Space adventure zones along with two new reps, added a new Fleet Holding (completed for us), they've redone the Kit system, they've redone the Trait system, and there's three new Featured episodes (or two, if you were around when Worf showed up to say hi). That's the big ones I can recall off-hand, besides that lots of ships and so on.

You forgot to mention that reps are now ridiculously easy to finish, since you a) only need marks and moneys now and b) a daily mark bonus of 50 marks is awarded for even the smallest task. Blow up 10 nukara research stations? Bam, 50 marks. A fresh char can probably earn his daily dose of marks for all reps in 30 minutes. Sponsorship halves the time needed to complete for alts as well.

It has come to my attention that certain Codex members are doing events on Risa.

(or two, if you were around when Worf showed up to say hi)

I was going to do the episode before moving but they delayed it until about a month after I left, I think.

Kind of a shame, I actually wanted to fool around with that Carrier.

Did that ship turn out to be any good?

In paper it seems like a nice ship: Tanky, Aux2Bat compatible, and has a set bonus to the red beams of awesome crit.

And to be honest the idea of having my KDF-Rom crew of renegades, terrorists, and pirates flying around on a mysterious alien ship was so Blake7 I couldn't help but love the concept of it. .////.

But I haven't seen anything on the Forums about it, so I kind of guess it didn't turn out to be good?

And does the episode still reward it during those 'featured episode reruns' or whatever it is called when the episodes go back to giving unique rewards for a limited time frame?

Now that's kind of awesome. I never managed to get far in the reps because after a while I just couldn't force me to do that many STFs every single day. The same kind of happened with Fleet stuffies, I got a core and a few consoles and then was, like, fuck this bleep, I am Doffing my way to endless dilithium and buying pretty clothes instead. >.<

Now to see if I can manage to get someone at Craptic/PW to tell me whether or not I can log in the game from here. I sent an email asking about it a while before moving and they still haven't answered.

There's no bleeping way I am downloading the full client just to discover I am 'outside the area of coverage' or whatevs. That bleep takes, like, half a day or so and slows my net to a crawl. >.<

The Dyson Carrier was p. meh. It's not really anything special, Mirror Voq outclasses it by a big margin.
