Well, it's basically time-gated grind. By itself, it's not that bad, just some 30 minutes per day to get what you need (except Nukara rep, but that just doesn't have a proper daily go-to mission yet). The grind itself is actually for getting access to the best gear, getting the gear after that isn't hard at all if you get a Codex Cool Crew together (or just one guy to tag with so you have a little security against pugtards). The missions that are done for this stuff are themselves fairly quick Space or Ground combat missions.

Besides that, you've got our Starbases (though that grind's overseen and managed by Norfleet), and of course the Foundry. Besides, you can just hang in there and talk about inane bullshit with Codexers (Codex Neverwinter Guild can also hear you).

another noob question: is there a list (please, a list, i just need to read and memorize, i don't need no educated spreadshit) of the special traits and their effects?
stowiki didn't help, google neither.
i'd like to know if there's something neat to obtain with some dimes.

Special traits?

The only pay traits are the ones of the Tal Shiar lock box but they are nothing to write home about (the +10 accuracy vs small is especially LOLworthy), everything else is either at Trait selection and you can see what they do or they are passives you gain by accolades and there is no limit to those, the only actual "choice" is being Rommy and having to pick you want to deal damage or resist damage against the Elachi.

Yes, the only special traits currently available AFAIK are the ones you can get out of the Tal Shiar lockbox (see below). I got the Helmsman one for my Reman. Helps in getting her Space Turtle (aka D'Deridex) to haul itself around.

  • Helmsman - Space Trait:
    • +10% Flight Turn Rate
    • Evasive Maneuvers cooldown reduced by 10sec
  • Precise - Space Trait:
    • +25% Accuracy vs. Small Targets (Torpedoes, Mines, Fighters, etc.)
  • Conduit - Ground Trait:
    • Extra Shield Heal when using Shield Charges.
    • Extra Damage Bonus when using Power Cells.
  • Disassembler - Ground Trait:
    • +10% Damage vs. Non-Living Targets (Turrets, Holograms, etc.)

Keep in mind I have been away from the game for a long while but isn't that a little bit OP? :? How long was Evasive Maneuvers base cooldown?

Also, traits in Lockboxes? WTF. Can you buy them in the Exchange or are, uhm... Bound on pickup or whatever?

The reward box traits are unbound, and can be bought and sold on the Exchange. The real value they have is the free Trait respec you get (but you can only use a specific type of trait box once) when you gain access to the new trait. Seeing how the crappiest of the crappy traits are in 10k EC range, that's a neat bonus.

The cooldown on Evasive Maneuvers is 60 seconds, so it's really just a small bonus. Helmsman is still the only somewhat half-way decent trait out of the lockbox traits tho, since it is still extra turn rate.

We've heard. It sounds like a real lame event, personally. All depends on if the ship is any good.

was looking for info on the summer event when i stumbled upon this:
Mattachine is holding a LGBT History & Star Trek History Trivia Saturday the 29th at 10AM PDT/5 PM GMT.

The Trivia will be held at Mattachine HQ (starbase) by invitation.
You'll ask for the invite in the STOPride channel.

Okay. So I go to create my Rommie and I discover I can't use the Joined Trill I got so long ago. Fuck this shit. Thirty seconds and I am almost leaving again. :(

Question: Is the 'The New Way' mission still doable only by Feddies?

And can someone explain to me the changes on traits and bleep? I log to my old Feddie and the first thingie I see is the game telling me I have unlocked trait slots or something. :? And I have a list with a lot of Trait thingies I do not remember having, including an ability to diminish my Photonic Fleet cooldown or something? WTF.

Basically the new Traits system is fairly similar to the old, just expanding on it. Instead of being chosen at character creation and immutable, you can respec, and you have a much larger number of traits to choose from (race and career specific) with additional slots at regular level intervals. Canon races have a built-in trait that's equal to two traits and takes up no slot, Aliens have a single bonus slot for traits (I approve of this).

Besides that, the effect of traits revolves around the same as before: Avoid skill bonus traits like the plague, snag the obviously super-good +% traits, and snag the best career traits (ie, the ridiculously optimal Medical Vanguard and Field Analyst traits for Sci) and such. You just get more of them, so the patch is essentially just a buff to all characters.

Thank you for the explanation.

The system does seem better indeed. And the Romulan +Stealth under cloak and +Damage when leaving cloak is just my thingie. Time for the first petite Romulan with pigtails evar.

hm... interesting... might be worth getting for 'tour the universe', if it's actually faster in sector space as well

Good to see that Cryptic is taking steps to encourage a strong and thriving ERP community:

  • Horga’hn Non-Combat Pet: Any discerning visitor to Risa will undoubtedly seek to purchase one of these iconic figurines as a souvenir of their journeys. This stationary pet version will allow you to display your Horga’hn nearby.

Dat ship is sexy.

Useless for an Eng and barely useful for a Sci, though. :(

Edit: Actually, it may be useful for those Escort flying SubNuke SCIs with a thingie for sleek ships. Is that still viable or was fixed/patched/lolno-ed?

Those consoles.

If the ship has two hangars I'm in love. Damn, that's going to be a lot of grinding. My dad will kill me if I buy a virtual toy spaceship pack at that price.

Anyway, so now I have to pick between Klinks and Feddies. :? Cue three days pondering the pros-and-cons of each option.

I'd wager it's one hangar, since I doubt it'll be a pure carrier. Then again, Rommies have no carriers so we might end up with Cruiser-Carrier full combo butthurt apocalypse.

EDIT: The only pro and con you need to consider: Feds can get Plasmonic Leech console without using Zen.

I wouldn't mind if it does have a single hangar, because that would mean I don't have to grind to get it. :P

And yes, that was one of the main Pros. I have been lusting for Plasmonic Leech since forever. My first action upon logging yesterday was to buy me one of those boxies in the exchange just in case.
