Is any of you using a Romulan/Reman Engineer? If so, how does it play?

The Romulan bag of tricks does not seem to combine well with playing an Engi, but I am curious all the same.

I kind of rolled a Sci myself. Then I kind of noticed all the Sci skills I like (scramble sensors, jam sensors, viral matrix) are still useless and that Sci captains/officers still suck balls at solo Elite ground. CRYPTIIIIIIIIIC! Fix your bleeping game already.

Well, probably the biggest benefit a Romulan Engineer might have is the Trait that boosts Emergency Power to add additional +10 to all Power Levels, and Warbirds are shorter on Power...

Also, Sci is probably THE strongest solo class in the game when on Ground, don't diss.

On Elite? I did manage to run all the episodes on Elite with an all Engi away team because LOLTURRETS but Sci start dying like bitches around 25 or 30. The enemies are just doing way too much damage and getting way too little hurt, and holds are fragile, and AoE is not hardcore enough for them to even notice. :(

U r doin it rong

Sci using debuffs? You are supposed to run godtank, AKA Medic X. Space Jihad is also the debuff kit king, you see (the key here is Weapons Malfunction, which is better than any hold ever in STO, being several seconds of "can't shoot anything"). Sci's bread and butter is not dying to anything and keeping aggro with Threat Control, or in case of Borg getting right next to the most dangerous Borg in the room and punching it in the balls (technically stabbing, but you get the idea).

It actually works with normal melee weapons? D:

I did that on my old main Sci a while ago with the laser klink blade and a ferengi whip. I thought it did work only because those items were OP. I was running the healing kit and had a sci officer buff me with the +melee +resist 'spells' before rushing in and beating shit up.

I'll give it a try later today. Tovan must be getting Emo I pretty much gave up on rescuing his sister after two tries at the 'Click console, a whole lot of tal shiar run out the door, LOL.' part.

If you're talking about the lightsaber bat'leth, it's shit. It doesn't deal physical damage, and thus it is not a slow blade, and thus it does not penetrate the shield. The whole idea of the melee-tank is that due to Borg having immense shield hp, it's better to go straight past the shield and chop inside (melee penetrates 80%). Against non-Borg, guns are also functional.

Though why exactly are you even bothering with Elite outside of STFs and Crystalline Entity?

Because the game is too easy otherwise, and if the game is too easy I feel I don't deserve the rewards. Even on Elite the game is pretty forgiving so I have a lot of personal rules to make the game harder (i.e: I don't respawn when solo. If I get a wipe I abandon the map, wait ten minutes for the map to reset, and try again with all enemies respawned and healed). Otherwise it is just... why am I playing the game at all? Below Elite I can pretty much fight shit while chatting and not even come close to going kaboom. One of the thingies I miss of Engi Cruisers was being able to chat while tanking three Mirror Universe groups at the same time. :( I can't do that with Sci. Sob sob. My inner attention whore is sad.

Though to be honest I am playing the game mostly because HUGE STARSHIPS. It does a lot of thingies I want in a game about HUGE STARSHIPS (slow space combat, officer selection, crew management, etc) even if it does them in a very half-assed manner. And a very forgiving manner as well. :( And in a terribly buggy manner, too: It seems the Romulus expansion did break something because I am CTDing like mad even at the lowest graphical settings, which is amusing because I get perfect FPS even with everything at max. :?

Edit: About RomuReman Engineers, what do you think of Quantum Absorption? It has proven to be a very good trick on my Sci, and from what I have heard and read an Engi Cruiser with Quantum Absorption, Grace Under Fire, some good consoles, and healboat skills can be pretty much a perfect, indestructible healer tank. What's your take on it?

Also, how much of a tank can a Sci Captain become?

Very tank in either case, since ultimately in space your ship and boffs matter more than your career (Grace Under Fire only makes Miracle Worker reliably useful), and on Ground Sci is de facto the only tank around.

In my opinion, Quantum Absorbtion has proven to be the best and most reliable Singularity power, though I find it more useful to supplement my Mogwai's ability to take a hit. Again, for a ship that already tanks, my is that it's not as useful, since it's got a relatively long cooldown. I guess I'll see more when the Mogwai is traded in for a Scimitar.

EDIT: Also, the problems might not be related to the last patch. I had no problems at all until this morning, when the game started lagging and failing server connection at every turn. My guess would be that there's something up with the servers again.

What do you mean? :?

That's not LARPing if that's what you're getting at. It's the same as 'I will ghost Thief' or 'I will finish Deus Ex killing every single enemy in the game while using nothing but melee weapons and restarting the level if I ever get detected.' Game's too easy, so you use so-called 'challenges' to make it more fun=hard. In this case it is the exact same as playing Bioshock while reloading back at the start of the level if you ever get killed instead of using the resurrection chambers that allow you to win through attrition (enemies don't respawn nor heal when you resurrect so you can just run in, pewpew, get killed, respawn, run in, pewpew, get killed, etc, until you did clear the hard part).

Though Bioshock was retarded easy even doing so. -_-U

And for some reason I am unable to enjoy a game that doesn't punish me for failure so I need to punish myself somehow. :(

That's good to hear. :D I love those summonable holoships but I also love having a tanky ship, I wouldn't like to have to choose between doing one or the other.

If you want to be punished for your failures you should be playing EVE Online or Dwarf Fortress.

I both play and mod d0rf fortress. :P

Though all of my modding so far is 'let us create extremely hostile civilizations of OHGODPLEASENO creatures with a few touches to make them even more OHGODPLEASENO.'

And when I play d0rf fortress everything [PROGRESS_TRIGGER_POP_SIEGE:1] :obviously:

And I have the house rule to not base my fortresses around traps and that crap. No atom smashers or anything. All that stands between my fortress and anihilation are d0rfs with axes, and pickaxes, and crossbows, and trained war dogs. They are d0rfs, not bloody gnomes!

And I only settle in teh EVILEST terrain.

With aquifers.

And almost no ore.

Preferably near a necromancer's tower.

Yeah...

My d0rfs don't live long. :(

But they die like TRUE DWARVES. :obviously:

Edit: And I would play EVE were it f2p. :(

am i the only one who thinks nukara has been killed by the change to hard missions?

No, you are not but it goes deeper then that.

Nukara was in Season 6 that was Fleets so it awarded Fleet Marks, could be farmed but with LoR they changed it so you just get Tholian Marks and a shit amount of them ... add the loss of the Tholian set and you had no reason to go there outside Tholian marks but we discovered Tholian Rep does not give Dilithium and/or free marks at T5 completion like Romulan and Omega does and the T5 ability is shit, the sets are shit and you might as well stop at T4.

So what was left was the bosses because you could put 20 people in without grouping that was funny as hell, of course this is Craptic and WE CANNOT HAVE THAT NOW CAN WE! and they changed so that is no longer possible, considering you are asking to do a hard mission for shitty pay for a reputation that is utter pointless why would anyone do that? They are better off with the Vault or CEE that offers high pay for similar or lower challenge.

The zone is dead, even if they rank up the rewards to 10x it doesnt change the fact moment you hit T4 you done with Nukara Rep.

Ok. I have to give it to you. Melee Sci is bleeping brutal.

Still on Elite and most of the time I do not even come close to dying. I gave my team three plasma miniguns and one plasma grenade launcher to expose the dudes and then I just scan and charge and begin slaughtering shit with combos while ignoring their pewpew. @_@

Cryptic does deserve the award for the less intuitive build EVER. Melee space nurses are OP. WTF did I just say.

It's an elegant weapon for a more civilized age, not as clumsy or random as a blaster.
