Berg is in the forest.

I haven't been to the forest yet, is that accessed via the Hallowed Marsh?

Should be, I think to the north.

Chersonese connects to both, and I think forest is north of the swamp. Can just check your map while in the swamp area (not in a town or dungeon) and the arrows on the edge of the map will point you where to go.

I also did not intend to play the 5 hours I did last night. That Vendavel quest I was talking about ended up spiraling in to a 4 hour adventure. Hugely impressed that it became the quest-chain it did, particularly because the part after the fortress was all optional. I ended up running north to reach the wind valley

Had to pass through a challenging ghost fortress to get there with some really nice level design. Popped out into the harrowing valley, and discovered a tower belong to a hermit practitioner of the 5 winds, so I got some cool base level spells from him. Turns out he was the teacher of the bandit witch and knew what she had done to her husband to transform him into the terrible Wendigo. He pleaded with me that I put an end to the husband as well. I went to the corrupted tombs and fought the terrifying beast. Really cool monster design on that one. Quest done, right? Nope, there was more tomb to explore. Came across a door frozen shut by magical ice. Delved deeper and found a talking skull, who was apparently the keeper of this place. He explained how things got out of control and promised to unseal the frozen door if I found his other body parts and put him back together. I did so, he unsealed the door, I got an awesome new breast plate of black armor, continued forward to this alternative exit. Found myself standing outside the ancient ruins north of the northern bandit camp, and went "wow, cool." Ran back to the bandit witch, who reluctantly thanked me and gave me a backpack that slows the spoiling of food and has 75lb capacity and a power coil. Head back to Cierzo and the head guard thanks me and gives me the helm right off his head. Fucking awesome.

And that is a highly abridged version of what happened too.

Basically great quest chain, exploration, hand placed loot, equipment progression, skill progression, level design, quest rewards, and world design. All in an optional side-quest that would have likely resulted in the destruction of Cierzo had I not intervened. Really impressed.

The Vendavel quest was neat, but I didn't complete it. I was
enslaved and became a miner, until I found my backpack after helping the cook, the medic and gather iron scraps. I didn't know where to go from that point and dove into "The Hole" and barely escaped with my life, washed up on the beach. When I went back I asked to drink with Crock and he took me to a room and attacked me, he was way too strong to deal with and I was washed back up on the beach again. Not sure how strong you have to be to complete that quest but I don't see myself being able to. Unless maybe I just tell him "I'm here to kill you" and attack him? At least I'd have the upper hand then.

Really cool series of events though, wasn't expecting it.

i picked this up for the xbox one & holy cow. if you're indoors, there are no shadows & the light source doesn't cast shadows. it looks like something from the late 90's

ops apparently i destroyed the starting town by being lazy, trainers merchants are gone too.

Lol what?

So last night I plugged like 5 hours into the game and didn't realize it. Guess it's fair to say it has me hooked. It has probably more than it's fair share of flaws and is absolutely deserving of the title 'Eurojank', but I am having a blast with it; especially the dungeons.

Here's hoping to DLC that stuffs a fuckton of content into the game.
bandits assaulted starting city and razed it, with my house and my storage.

Shit Jinn, you're like a Hyper Ultra Awesome player, because I couldn't even *touch* the Vendevel quest. I tried, died, they invaded, blah. Oh well. I did get to see what happened when you get enslaved at least. What weapons and armor were you using to kill Crock, the first Warlord? Just curious.

Does this game have companions?

sounds like a typical console downgrade

No companions rusty. But you do make a friend which is based on what faction you choose.

Do they actually do anything?

They're important parts of the story. They all are childhood friends but each takes a different faction path. You get to know them and do quests with them but they don't actively participate in combat with you or anything. They are more for story purposes. So no, they don't really "do anything" in that sense, just show up at quests and you get story bits from them.

  • Only one save slot
  • The game saves every time you make a decision or something happens
  • Death is not a game over, but some semi-random scenario occurs: You can be enslaved, imprisoned, robbed and left for dead...
  • Multiple factions
  • Huge world with 4 different regions
  • Day/night cycle + seasons of the year!
  • The map doesn't show you where exactly you are, manual triangulation is needed
  • Difficult combat a la Dark Souls
  • Pitch-black dungeons, you need a torch (or lantern for both free hands)
  • Splitscreen coop, enemies have more health and stability (poise)
  • Diseases (food poisoning...)
Sounds great!
Hahahahaha that's Kenshi all over. They should sue them for plagiarism.

Haha. Thanks.

I was using Brutal Mace with fire cloth applied. Full suit of Blue Sand armor, chugged potions when I could, drank water beforehand, took off backpack. He's a tough bastard for sure. Applying affects to your weapons is awesome and can help a lot.

You sure you can't go back? I was enslaved, made it out, and was able to continue the quest.

Yeah, I can't go back because as soon as I reached the forest the quest updated and said "they have probably invaded by now". My plan was actually to go to the forest to learn runic magic in Berg and return to fight Crock. And yeah, the weapon enhancing things like poison, lightning, fire, ice, etc., are very useful and seem to cause a lot more damage. But I was swinging a Scholar's Staff and couldn't damage him, and 3 shots from him and I was dead, haha. Cool that you managed it though, I guess I'll have that to do in another playthrough.

Been playing 6 hours, exploration is nice but combat is awful, cant interupt enemies animations, character hit far too slow. Now i got killed and captured, it erased all my equipment and backpack, i so hate those event confiscating equipment, if only it was even tested properly...It seems like i wasted money again.

Don't tell me. I bought Risk of Rain 2.

Yeah, you're going to be doing much better when you have some magic. Hex magic and chakram magic are badass.

I've played the games for like 2 days now, I think it's a flawed gem, could have used another year in the oven. I also don't like the "power" progression, I think they should have added in a lot more passives for you to learn, but also made the beginning harder.

Oh and I really hate how you don't get any innate mana regeneration, I always hate it when mana doesn't regen depending on max mana. I know there's a "passive" you have to learn, but it costs a fuckton, uses 1 skill, and only gives you 0.15 regen! Come on!

The magic in this game had potential, but there weren't nearly enough spells. E.g. in runic magic you learn 4 symbols which you can combine to make spells, well guess what? You can't repeat symbols, and not all combinations work, so you actually can only make 4 spells... you do get another 4 by learning advanced combinations, but those "advanced" spells are just either more powerful versions of the first 4, or similiar. Why didn't they add in spells that could fabricate a tent? Water? Food? What about enhancing spells to enhance movement speed, stamina regen? What about teleport spells? Sure some of these spells would go against the "philosophy" of the game, but isn't that the point? Isn't magic supposed to kinda break the game in a way? At least once you're powerful enough.

I do agree that the game feels a bit empty, but that does play into it's strength somewhat, the "survival" thing it has going, though the landscape design is a bit amateurish. I think they missed a big oppotunity in stealing some of what gothic did, e.g. you could find special plants that would perma increase your stats or you could use them to brew stronger potions if you had the recipe; they could have added in a perma stamina/regen boost plant/recipe.

For all it's faults, I think the music is good though.

Oh and if the game is too easy or too slow for you, I recommend speedhacking, was fun.

What's up with runic magic? I bought all 4 thinking they would do cool stuff, but only 2 spells come from them? If I mix the D and E rune I get a protective aura, which is cool, and if I mix the F and S rune I get some weird pink cross on the ground. What is that? A magical trap?

There are a lot more combinations. Keep trying or look it up.

Will do, I'll keep trying (looking up answers is blasphemy I tell you, blasphemy). :)

Can you tell me if that pink cross on the ground that is glowing is a trap or not? Or maybe some sort of weird sigil.

No, there's only 4 combinations, pink cross (trap), ethereal sword, glowing orb that acts like a light, and protection buff. You can get 4 more combinations by learning advanced combinations which basically adds new functionalities to the existing spells, e.g. ethereal sword becomes 2h, cross trap can be detonated remotely, glowly orb fires a lightning bolt, and protective shield is a heal but uses it up.
Pretty shit tbh.

What is a Blessing Boon, and why does it say I need one when I try to cast Infuse Light? Infuse Light is a spell that enchants your weapon with lightning and also makes it glow like a torch.

Also, this game is kicking my butt. Is it normal to not be able to kill anything in the marsh area? Did I finish Chersonese too early? I'm having issues in that I can't kill things. How do you combat in this game.

I was going off of what I saw on some gameplay videos I had watched. Seemed like there was a fair amount of combos going on, but oh well. Sounds like there are 8 total.

Anyone know if they're planning on doing some expansion or dlcs for this game?
