Anyone know if they're planning on doing some expansion or dlcs for this game?

No word on that, but I'm really hoping an Orochi area and faction are in the works. In addition to a number of things to make the base game a bit more robust/fix some issues (preferably through free patch work and free DLCs).

Is the ethereal sword good?
Nope, it's pretty bad considering what you can get later on, though since it's ethereal it might be worth it to use it against ghosts instead of putting shit on your sword. 2nd level only adds +10 damage and a bit more on the already very low impact. It might be worth using after you get the perk that upgrades all rune magic, but I donno how powerful it gets at that point, and the trade off is that you have to have your book out still.

You're better off getting the spellsword skill tree and using the mana to coat your sword with some element instead of using mana to summon 2nd level ethereal sword.

Well I've noticed a few things. First, the faction missions are pretty easy, and send you to areas where you can kill the monsters pretty easily. I like that. Two, the ethereal sword is sweet. It takes barely any stamina to swing and does extra damage, I assume because it's enchanted it's also dealing ethereal damage, giving it higher damage output than what the raw numbers indicate. Loving runic magic now, cast a trap, cast a protection spell and then cast ethereal sword and work them over. I'm able to actually survive now in these missions as long as I stay away from most roaming creatures on the later maps.

Oh, and what does Reveal Souls do? I see a floating blue orb hovering over a dead body or something but can't do anything with it. And still can't figure out what the Blessing Boon is, anyone know?

I've played the games for like 2 days now, I think it's a flawed gem, could have used another year in the oven. I also don't like the "power" progression, I think they should have added in a lot more passives for you to learn, but also made the beginning harder.

Oh and I really hate how you don't get any innate mana regeneration, I always hate it when mana doesn't regen depending on max mana. I know there's a "passive" you have to learn, but it costs a fuckton, uses 1 skill, and only gives you 0.15 regen! Come on!

The magic in this game had potential, but there weren't nearly enough spells. E.g. in runic magic you learn 4 symbols which you can combine to make spells, well guess what? You can't repeat symbols, and not all combinations work, so you actually can only make 4 spells... you do get another 4 by learning advanced combinations, but those "advanced" spells are just either more powerful versions of the first 4, or similiar. Why didn't they add in spells that could fabricate a tent? Water? Food? What about enhancing spells to enhance movement speed, stamina regen? What about teleport spells? Sure some of these spells would go against the "philosophy" of the game, but isn't that the point? Isn't magic supposed to kinda break the game in a way? At least once you're powerful enough.

I do agree that the game feels a bit empty, but that does play into it's strength somewhat, the "survival" thing it has going, though the landscape design is a bit amateurish. I think they missed a big oppotunity in stealing some of what gothic did, e.g. you could find special plants that would perma increase your stats or you could use them to brew stronger potions if you had the recipe; they could have added in a perma stamina/regen boost plant/recipe.

For all it's faults, I think the music is good though.

Oh and if the game is too easy or too slow for you, I recommend speedhacking, was fun.
you have natural mana regen.
you need to stop sleeping.
more weaker you are phisically stronger magic become.

Codex Year of the Donut
lack of any NPCs besides enemies outside of towns is boring
no real reason to fight (nearly) anything because the reward isn't worth it, just run past and loot stuff
meh

There is a reason to fight stuff - loot. They drop crafting materials which you can in turn sell to buy better gear and skills or you can craft with them. Also in dungeons there's not much of running past enemies, you have to deal with them. In the overworld you can avoid them and should for awhile because they're strong, much like in ELEX. But if you can something down you get much needed crafting materials and loot.

Another thing I love is that they've actually made traveling from point A to point B interesting, rewarding and satisfying. It feels so good getting to your location in one piece that you're actually thankful you made the journey. I haven't seen a game do that ever really, where traveling on the map itself and reaching destinations is satisfying.

yes when you are exausted you start regen mana.

magical and phisical are at the opposite.
if you sleep you can't regen mana.

Doesn't Reveal Souls also restore mana? If you cast it on a dead body, a skeleton or some dead bandit, a soul might be revealed as a blue orb. Hit it with your Spark spell and you regain a chunk of mana. I haven't tried it yet but that's what I've been told.

Guys, the Ethereal Sword from Runic Magic is sweet. It doesn't have great stats when you look at it in the inventory window, but I suspect it's got a high level of ethereal damage it deals that isn't shown. I'm loving it. I start combat now with a protective aura, summoning the sword and maybe laying an arcane trap or two. The game is becoming more manageable for me, especially when not using lock-on targeting all the time. I find it easier to move without locking on.

Same thing if you dont take the quest from the mage upstairs, she immediately attack at point blank , enough to one shot you. Third one is only fair fight as you can just move away and kite...
