I want to play PoE2 because they are removing the socket system as it is now. I never liked it. It was always especially punishing for SSF which is what I always tried to play until I get frustrated and I would just buy some 5l or 6l. Diablo 2 didn't have such system and nobody really needed additional RNG on top of already existing RNG of right base item and right mods.
I want to play PoE2 because they promised slower combat where we do not clear screens in 1-2s because we are expected to do it because enemy damage is so high you just die if you let enemies attack for more than 2s. Diablo 2 didn't have this and we didn't need it.

If D4 can give me similar experience while also having good character building options and decent itemization I do not need PoE2.

A 5L is easy to craft in white maps / early yellows with your league starter imo. 6L is a pain.

There's nothing atm shown in D4 that would suggest Blizzard tries to take on PoE.

You still have a lot of overlap between people that would be intersted in PoE and Diablo. Even a game like Lost Ark which is mechanically quite different to PoE managed to steal a lot of the playerbase in the first few months of it's release.

In essence nothing will change. From the info they gave us you'll still have to find a skill gem that has enough sockets which I assume won't differ that much in terms of rarity from finding an item that has enough linked sockets.

A bit of reality check:
Sockets suck atm because of the devs, it's not something inherent in the design. They could very well put 6l on vendor at resonable price. PoE2 will be just as grindy and gear based unless people start voting with their wallet (gl with that).
They keep talking about slower pace since forever, not gonna happen. It was slower in the showcase because it's early game pacing. Same for D4. I would be extremely surprised if either game doesn't turn into zoom zoom zoom in late game (and they are designed now with late game taking majority of play time).

And last was exactly my point. They didn't show anything in D4 that would at least try to satisfy a PoE player in that regard.
It will be a "service" and could be improved over time. But from what I've seen so far looks like Activision got tired of them wasting money and is forcing them to push out something.

The problem is the loot in Numbness isn't any better! You just have less of it. This just means less currency and less ability to craft.

I have not tried Ruthless so maybe I'm wrong but I assume that when you do find an item it is more likely to be an upgrade due to the scarcity. Especially when in normal mode you can just hop on the tradesite and get a well-rolled rare for 10c one week into the league that is going to carry you until red maps.

I died at lvl 82 in the gauntlet, opened a breach in a tier 5 map and an absolutely ungodly amount of monsters clogged the screen and killed me, should have had phasing I guess. I was going for 90 but it probably wasn't going to happen with my zdps build (absolution necro, tried SRS but died lvling the gems). No 4090 for me ;(

They were a nice tease for the league but I always took them with a huge grain of salt. Especially after Kalandra where they just "forgot" to include one of their biggest changes to loot drops from both the manifesto and patch notes.
