WTF, fighting Will o Wisp in TB is super irritating. They attack and go invisible in same round lol. I don't think using invisibility is just a move action. I might need to find some see invisiblity scroll for that will o wisp island (or turn off TB mod).

Inefficient? What's inefficient is taking an entire class up to level 7-10 or whatever level you get that ability, just to counter death effects that are only present on a small number of creatures in the game. Min/lvl single target narrow buffs are inefficient. 10 min/lvl maybe, but still single target. I like partywide buffs/lazy. It’s the difference between “Oh shit, forgot about these Spectres, gotta rest to redo my Spellbook” and “oh yeah there are Spectres here, I’ll let my Pal take care of them.”
Crusader’s Edge is often good when Death Ward is and replaces it, both are narrow. I like Channeling not eating Mercies.

Paladin is not a very good class in Kingmaker, it's been established (aside from 2-level dips to get Aura of Grace, obviously). Marrying yourself to that many levels of Pal just to get a decent counter to death effects is absolutely absurd.
