it's a 1H weapon and I like to have her in second line.
If you want Jaethal to fight from the second line you should pay attention to the reach of the weapon. Scythe has short reach; only longspears, glaives and fauchards have long reach in Kingmaker (6 ft.).

There’s a couple Scythes (near VTomb?) that fit better with what she’s doing. One that boosts her Touch spells and another one that AoEs I think. Second even Keen?

She can heal herself fine with her Inflict spells. This isn’t really a healrace game. Just top off after combat and don’t get hit.

So that’s Reach Weapons, Shields, or range. All work well, with Scythes also doable for RP.

Come to think of it she’s set up great for Shield Bashing since Solo Tactics makes Shield Wall live.

So for my next playthrough I decided to actually try and give a shit about the kingdom management system.
So does anyone know any guides that describe the kingdom management in depth, as I don't feel like spending 3 more playthroughs to get all of the details drilled in? And I'm not just talking about a bullet-point list on how to get the most optimal progression.

On a side note, what mods do people generally use for this game? I always just used CoTW + Cleaner, but nexusmods seems to be quite populated now, so I'm sure I'm missing something.
  • Is Eldritch Arcana (updated) worth using together with CoTW? Or does CoTW already cover everything there is to be covered.
  • What are people's thoughts on the traits system in EA and the changes to companions in CoTW (the optional ones): good addition or just straight up cheating?
Lastly, is a Paladin enough healing power if going for unfair difficulty at lvl 8 (Challenging : lvls 1-5, Hard: 5-8, Unfair 8+) or should I start thinking about Clerics/Oracles for that?

Well your Bard can handle all the healing once it gets the healing song and you should have either Tristian or Harrim along before that so should be doable.

Kingdom management is a lot easier if you lower taxes and spend almost all your money (other than buying bags of holding) on BP until you finish Varnhold.

Take the 500BP and don’t do any projects that lower future costs. In the future you’re rich.

Giantslayer Clasp helps in Ch 2 (stacks with Barkskin) and 4 to make Harrim areal tank and the Hunter Necklace is great for Ch 3 but don’t go crazy buying random weapons or whatever.

LG MC for Bulletin Boards and Orphanages. Divine (Shrines around Monument) unlocks Arcane (Teleporters) and Community unlocks Relations (Inns +7 next to Town Hall) for Aviaries.

40 rank ups cuts rank up time in half. Always be ranking.

Buy Wildcards, it makes everything smoother.

Thx Lann but I’ve found them impractical during flight so no longer wear them while saving poor souls from the terrible fate of sucking at P:K.

Asymptotics Tips KM kingdom management:
  • Plan your routes to maximize efficiency and length of adventuring day. Avoid back and forth. Don't hunt, use rations. Buy every bag of holding you see, as soon as you can. Bonus: Discretion is the better part of valor for Crag Linhorn.
  • Prioritize finding every advisor you can.
  • Rank up your advisors with every spare bit of time. Don't sell stat boosting gear until all NPCs are fully clothed.
  • Rush the main quests in Troll Trouble, then aggressively acquiring new regions before exploring the map. Use the remaining days to rank up. Do the same in Season of Bloom.
  • Pursue Community-->Loyalty-->Divine in Chapter 2, then Arcane-->Relations-->Culture in Chapter 3, in that order. You want each to Level 5 as quickly as possible. When you can, accelerate Divine so you can get teleporters ASAP.
  • Never raise taxes. Always lower them.
  • Spend all of your personal funds on BP until Varnhold.
  • Keep 100-200 BP handy always
  • Use the older broad from Brevoy, not the half-orc or noble kid
  • Artisan tiers are gated by kingdom stat ranks. Emphasize the stats which your favored artisans use.
  • Don't worry about missing some opportunities.
  • Don't neglect your economy stat. The amount of BP produced by each kingdom stat is limited by the economy rank. Example, if your Relations rank is 6 and your Economy rank is 3, Relations will only produce BP as if it were rank 3.
  • Hold off on curse research until after Varnhold. Never research building cost improvements until you have next to nothing left to do.
  • Be near your town 15 days prior to a chapter end. Rush to Bald Hilltop immediately.
That should do you. Also, see this link about kingdom stat unlocks. It's better than the bit I've written here. Getting more advisors sooner is really key. Same with regions. More advisors means you can solve more problems = better ranks. Getting regions = more artisans which means more money. It also enables you to build teleporters in settlements, which is absolutely vital to getting around efficiently.

You don't want a healer for hit points. Healing in combat is inefficent vs. just killing the target to stop incoming damage. Buy cheap scrolls (or wands if a mod lets you buy them) of Cure Light Wounds and use them after combat instead. Any character capable of casting CLW (at least Cleric, Oracle, Witch, Bard, Shaman, Druid, Inquisitor, Hunter, Ranger, Paladin) or trained in the Use Magic Device skill can activate them.

The real problem is condition (disease, ability damage/drain, poison ect.) removal. Most of these depend on higher level spells to cure and for many of them they need a caster level check compared to the source. This means items will fail a lot of the time.

Well for better or for worse you should never get Poisoned since Delay Poison = Poison Immunity and if you’ve got a character with high Religion Lore (you should) they can cure Disease. Removing ability damage requires Lesser Restoration, Soothing Mud (Druid/Ranger), or rest while you want to try to use Death Ward and Immunities (Hospitaler/Jaethal/Animate Dead) to avoid level drain altogether.

No need to rush any Chapter quest, since only timer that matters is Hilltop. Yeah you can get region a little earlier but your bottleneck there is cash and you miss out on a quest line that lets you clear Lone House twice costing you some money and a decent chunk of EXP (and a unique item you may want to use).

Well, the timer in Varnhold can also lead to a game over.

I usually do prioritize the main quests to avoid spam of high DC incidents and have more leftover time for rank ups.

Exception: the mentioned Troll Trouble where its actually more beneficial to wait with solving it until Barthomeow needs help (still scout his homestead, the old fortress ruins, the river pass beforehand - and recruit Jubilost and Ekun ASAP).
