I really like what i am reading, still theres no much info but its confirmed the number of companions in the party is up to 5 , thats already removing one of my biggest fear, that really makes fights more tactical. The races are clearly D&D ones, theres different way to include elves, ala witcher, but i guess that if its a relaunch of the black hound as suspected, they will keep it close to forgotten realms ( 3.5 and before lore) canon. Likely those godlike people, are also similar to planescape celestials or tieflings.
As for technology , i am not surprised to see muskets , even in the very first D&D red box its mentioned that black powder exists in the world, they arent taking too much risks , i dont think its steampunk.

Hoping for some unique followers ala PS:T. Loved the 6 member party. 8 NPCs with great background and stories

Temporary followers to be that Quest NPC who leads you through the next area, rewards/betrays you, then leaves. They're getting their interns to reproduce 'old school' format by the book.

"Goddammit, Volourn. Go to hell."

I've been posting on the Codex for nearly 10 years. I've been there and done that. R00fles!

It does look Icewind Dale-ish at first, but have a closer look, it's not really.

But, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. JUSTIN SWEET STRETCH GOAL!

I second that!

I really like Icewind Dale's art style and atmosphere.
All that snow, cliffs and icy dungeons give a good feeling of exploration and desolation.

"And I've been reading your finger-diarrhea for half that. Trust me, It's much worse on our end."

Then, I'm doing things correctly. :)

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I'm glad they have elves and dwarves in the game. I like them, nobody ever does them right gameplay wise (and thanks to potatoes/biowhore they've been getting shittier culture wise too), and they inflict butthurt on a lot of whiners.

So basically the combat will be so easy that you can solo every encounter... and yet somehow it's going to be interesting and tactical with a 6-man party? I call bullshit.

People have solo-ed the BGs and IWDs too...
I'm not sure if saying "Players can explore the entire world and its story on their own if they so choose." means that it will be easy or if it just means that you're allowed to do so without having companions forced on you.

It does look Icewind Dale-ish at first, but have a closer look, it's not really.

The face is the thing that stands out the most as different. I guess if it was Justin Sweet they would have advertised him.

I really wish I got to use that learn to spell icon on Volourn. Shame he only appeared again after we got rid of them.

Anyway this new stuff sounds great.

Go Obsidian!

Your Party
The maximum party size is the player's main character (PC) and up to five companions for a total of six characters. This does not preclude the addition of temporary characters in special circumstances. Companions are never forced on the player. Players can explore the entire world and its story on their own if they so choose. We feel companions are excellent sounding boards for the player's (and other companions') actions, but the story is ultimately about the player's personal conflict among the larger social and political complexities of the world.

6 person party, thank fuck. Was worried it would go the very small party route.

P.S. How the hell can you really do a pary of 6 when you will only have about 8 joinable npcs according to the kickstart add ons? WTF?

8 - 6 = 2.

Volourn cannot into math.
They also mention having temporary followers outside of the party size limit.

8-5 you ingrates.

Also this was a much better update than their shitty stretch goals. All they need to do is confirm the fixed camera isometric view with 2D painted backgrounds and I'm back in. I liked the part where it is inferred there will be sub-races of each race and mixed races. Really expands the 5 race (with full funding) racial mix.

Didn't they already state they are going to use 3D rendered, 2D backgrounds with 3D character (just like all the other IE games)?

Is this your actual question or is this you fluffing up a question to get reactions in an attempt to help assuage your fears? Because it's pretty clear from the video and blog entry that he's saying "You can try this but fuck me if you'll succeed."

I believe they implied it in the first video but I don't know if I have seen anything concrete.
