Didn't they already state they are going to use 3D rendered, 2D backgrounds with 3D character (just like all the other IE games)?

I believe they implied it in the first video but I don't know if I have seen anything concrete.

SO... this single point...... is what you are upset about? Even with all the other info released today?

Well yes. Actually I just want the 2D painted backgrounds. I was playing some IWD the other day and it occurred to my just how freaking beautiful all the IE games are. I know graphics fag and all that (no offense).

TBH I'll give them their $20 (or $25) but I'll go back up to $60 if they give me what I want. The fact that the engine seems to be up in the air does not bode well for a announcement soon though.

You seem to be spending a lot of time here instead of controlling that zoo of a forum you moderate. Makes me think you all got assignments to cover different sites and steer the conversations a certain direction. Are you a mole? Are you reporting back to your masters? Are you here to discover our weaknesses?

I'm not saying he is not. That place is a zoo full of trolls and idiots (Of which I have played no part. I swear. Really). Just saying he is pretty active here for someone tied to the Obsidian folks. I though they had a no posting on the Codex rule?

I already found out all your weaknesses, but you guys have better emoticons.

It's only a matter of time until I become disillusioned out in the field. I'll demand to speak to Feargus back at HQ, throw the water cooler at his face, scream that he would never have done this in 1998, and then fall off the radar into the dangerous, no-punches-pulled world of ex-moderator vigilantes. There, I'll join up with a transvestite smurf and an ex-troll to take it all back.

If certain developers no longer post on the Codex, it's not due to any policy. I wonder what it could be, huh?

Bullshit. If Tigranes was a true bro he'd take me off modstatus but as it turns out he's too busy gnawing at his own cock like an ear of corn.

We crushed their self-worth until they were left shuddering in a corner writing fan service for furries to obtain shreds of self-esteem?

so they updated on the core things and suddenly all the whiners are back on track smiling all day long? oh god... everybody knew that obsidian would try to create something similar to the old classics, staying away from the new age biowhore diarrhea. it's also good to see elves and dwarfs back... you can keep those scaly furrybreeders within your fuckin' sci-fi setting. it's not the texure which makes a race generic but their lore and role within the setting! now get rid of this shitty drm and release it on gog. glorious future!

and yes to confirmation of the black hound - who would have thought that? :codexisfor:

This update is glorious. Pledging never was a question to me, but after this I will up it a little. It just pulls the right strings on so many levels. Of course there are also 'tards who will find something to complain about, but their low number means that Obsidian did it right this time.

6-man party was what I wanted to hear.

Now all that remains for me to pledge are the toolset and the ability to create your own party of 6 from scratch.

You're a picky one arent't you? If everyone thought like that, we'd only have Dragon Age 3 to look forward to, no Project Eternity? Isn't an RPG with a 6 man party worth $25 on it's own?

No. :obviously: Wasteland 2 offered a TB RPG with full party customization DRM free for only $15 PLUS a toolset as a stretch goal to boot. That's a lot of bang for my buck. Obsidian better up their game.

To be honest I will pledge as long as the offer me a DRM free version and a toolset so that modders can fix the broken design.

All IE games have 3D rendered, 2D backgrounds. They weren't "painted", it are 3D renders. And yes, they're beautiful.

People say that is what Obsidian is going to do with this project, 2D backgrounds. You are getting what you want.

The IE games did have 2D character sprites though, Jaseun misspoke there.

However, ToEE had 3D character models and it looked fantastic.

FFS, we're living in 2012. How hard can it be to go full 3d on this one? Why use obsolete technology? Eternity could benefit greatly by a shoulder-mounted 3'rd person cam, infusing some fresh and innovative gameplay into their otherwise stale "rpg".

Come on, I'm serious. They already went with rt combat because they realize that next gen demands more realistic combat. The same thing applies to graphics, people expect to be able to rotate the camera, to look at the environment from a different angle. If they're going to craft the backgrounds in a 3d-application anyway, to create those renders, then why not simply use full 3d? It might even save them some conversion time.
