I wonder if this means the series will get Western release, overcoming the licensing hell. Region-locked release (Asia-only release) on Steam is probable, so be prepared.

Can someone recommend an "JRPG" where

1 - The MC is not androgynous or teenager or use an oversized sword. He doesn't need to be an sorcerer( favorite D&D class), only use an spear, halberd, mace, warhammer, bow, crossbow, musket, rifle, or anything that is not an sword. Maybe i can make an exception to an Rapier, if the MC uses the rapier as an trusting weapon and there are no overswing ballet-like combat animations.
2 - The story isn't about an group of teenagers saving the world.
3 - The combat is not bad, like this real time combats with BS mechanics like cooldowns where you spam the same rotation 5000 times or turn based combat with an line A vs line B and the same strategy can work on 90%+ of battles

I confess that most "jrpg's" that i liked was exactly the most "western like" aka Dragon's Dogma, Dark Souls and some old ones like 7th saga. I don't care if is linear os scripted since i love the scripted and linear parts of BG2. Or if have anime artstyle.

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem or its remake. The main character is an 19 (who is 20 by the end of the game) year old that uses a rapier as a piercing weapon and is engaged to a woman he loves that he would have married already if the events of the game didn't get in the way. It's very tactical with map design that forces different plans for each battle. Radiant Dawn also works, with the main character being a 23+ year old woman that uses magic. Many of her companions are teenagers (but an equal number are adult women and men 30+), but there's actually a reason for that: The fighting men in their prime are held in work camps to prevent the exact kind of rebellion you're organizing.

For that matter, most Pokemon games. None of the protagonists use a sword, only one or two of them (Black/White and the semi-spinoff Colosseum) are old enough to be a teenager, and weakness/resistance do force you to change tactics every battle. A lot of other monster raising games that rode on Pokemon's coattails also count.

Upcoming game, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin.

They're marketing this as an RPG (JRPG). The player character has stats and stuff, so TBD on that.
Also a hybridized action sidescroller when doing combat, and a rice farming simulator.
Looks painfully easy and probably too child-friendly. But they're apparently emphasizing accurate representations of old (feudal era?) rice farming methods.

Project Sakura Wars cycles between adventure and battle sequences, through which you will progress through the story and stengthenen your bond with the heroines.

Battle parts use an action combat system in which you take control of the leader Kamiyama and the other members’ mechs. Utilize each character’s unique abilities and defeat enemies with exhilarating combos and special attacks.

The more you strengthen your bond with teammates, the stronger they become during battle parts. Experience dramatic battles, and even let the story unfold within them.

Flashy, Three-Dimensional Action with Simple Controls

Use a combination of the Square and Triangle buttons to unleash a flurry of standard attacks. Use your jumps and dashes to move freely throughout the battlefield, and use many other actions such as wall running and just-dodges to defeat enemies.

I know the original never had "deep" turn based combat but changing it to a meh action RPG doesn't seem like a great move imo

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV announced for PS4, PC

Koei Tecmo has announced Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV for PlayStation 4 and PC, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals. It will launch this winter in Japan.

Here are the first details:

One Big Map Where Multiple Scenes Occur
  • “Lord-like gameplay,” where both Domestic commands and battles occur on the same map, is being deepened.
  • The game will progress by plotting / cycling through the “strategy phase,” in which you instruct Domestic and military commands, and the “advance phase,” in which those instructions are put into effect.
New Element: “War Front”
  • All of China is divided into small divisions (HEX), and each division becomes a basis of income for each faction.
  • A division can be obtained by simply occupying it with your troops, and there is no requirement of conquering cities.
  • When attacking enemies, you can also utilize tactics such as breaking its connection with cities to cut off logistics.
More Than 1,000 Officers: The Highest in the Series Yet
  • There are officers that may ignore the player’s commands.
  • There are active officers who will not only await a command, but propose their own.
  • Even an officer with low stats is unique, and no officer is just a placeholder.
Configure the “Governments” of Each faction
  • By setting officers on the organization chart, you can obtain various effects and special commands.
  • The configuration of an organization chart will change depending on the ideology of the ruler.
Thanks, Ryokutya2089.

So it the "non-RPG" part of the series right? More akin of ROTK 11?

If not for the fact that ROTK 13 and 14 was so bad I would probably be excited for this.

Tasomachi, cool looking exploration focused adventure game:

2021.

Only supports Japanese, but I won't be surprised if this one picked up by local publishers like Playism and Dangen down the line.

New of Romancing Saga 3 remaster in TGS:

https://gematsu.com/2019/08/romanci...final-adjustments-stage-news-set-for-tgs-2019

Final adjustments are currently being made with all parties concerned on the remastered version of Romancing SaGa 3, and more information will be announced at Tokyo Game Show 2019, which runs from September 12 to 15 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, Romancing SaGaseries director Akitoshi Kawazu said in a tweet.

Kawazu added that since they are aiming to keep it as close to the original as possible, there will not be any significant additions or changes as there was in something like Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song.

New of Romancing Saga 3 remaster in TGS:

It's looking fantastic except for the UI and horrible font that seems to have carried over from Romancing SaGa 2. Square Enix really needs to stop copy-pasting its mobile games onto steam and expecting everyone to be fine with it. It's getting embarrassing.

Unfortunately, I am powerless to resist this release. Will be a day one purchase for me. Hopefully coming in the fall from the looks of it!
