Notice how the original looks like he is wearing an ornate garb of some sort but that impression turns into some kind of unfinished apron mess at 4x upscale.
It looks fine, you're retarded. Go home and take all them filters with you, they always make everything look like shit.

Marl Kingdom is a nice series. The first one was also released on DS with songs in Japanese, iirc, but they also changed the gameplay(the battle was similar to the rest of the sequels instead of strategy). But as everyone knows, avoid translated games if you don't want to suffer from modern localization(old localization also sucks, see Working Designs :^).)

Seems rarely I hear of new games in my news reel but Chained Echoes appeared. Of the other games mentioned I only heard of Xenochronicles 3. The other games also slipped by: Octopath Traveller, Bravely Default 1-2 (ok the entire Bravely arc), and probably other as I don't own a modern console.

Do people like the different combat mechanics this game describes or any game with something different than your standard attack/parry/cast/flee/etc?

Not an RPG, and probably not many interested, but I hope the new Layton game turns out good.

Is Sunrider just a VN or is there actual tactical combat here. I get the impression VN + management. Sunrider 4 just popped up on GOG. I take a look at moby and of course naming is a tad unconventional. Can someone give the lowdown of the series?

Don't really know too much about them I think the first one was a strategy game with vn interludes and sequels went pure vn or something wonky like that.

There is actual tactical combat there. It was serviceable. Could have used some refinement. My main complaint is that my upgrades in the first two games did not carry over to Liberation Day.

It was 7/10 good. I will copy paste my review from MMO-C.

It is a mecha space opera where you play as the last surviving ship of a neutral planet that has been caught in a galactic war between space communists and the space USA, but the political situation becomes more complex as the story goes on. One of the best things I can say about the game is that it doesn't waste your time that much. Unlike your usual VN or JRPG which has dozens of hours of shallow fluff, the Sunrider games are only about 10-20 hours long and most of it is good stuff. The first couple hours of the first game aren't very exciting but once you get the mission to rescue the ambassadors, I started getting really invested in the story. Has some great moments of writing, and a some derp moments. The production values are low but the plot makes up for it.

I'd say these games have a 50/50 ratio of story to SRPG battles. The SRPG combat is surprisingly good. The engine is rough so there are time delays, but it was mechanically interesting. The difficulty tuning is a little out of wack, though. I started the first game on Captain and it was challenging but fun, but about half way through it got too hard and I had to take it down to Ensign difficulty. Towards the end it go really hard again and I had to save scum a lot (in retrospect I probably should've just taken the difficulty down to casual). Played Liberation Day on Casual, but in retrospect I probably would have been fine playing on Ensign difficulty for that game.

I was disappointed that my builds and inventory from Mask of Arcadius didn't carry over to Liberation Day. The Banner Saga trilogy was able to do that. Also not a fan of the upgrade screen UI revamp in Liberation Day. Also, it seems that they decided to pay for full Japanese voice acting of the game for Liberation Day, which feels... I don't know. Japanese voice acting is nice, but that's really expensive and it came at the 3rd game of the series, so by that point I was already used to the limited English voices and hearing them in my head, so I didn't use the Japanese VA. That money probably could've been used for something else, IMO. Also, before Liberation Day, Sunrider was leaning towards you being able to pick which girl you wanted the captain to get with, but then in Liberation Day the captain gets with one particular girl so you're choices before were meaningless. I think it made for a decent story IMO, but I don't think it's good form to mislead people like that.

Also has some good music:

Be warned: there are a couple nude scenes (even without the uncensor patch).

Anyway, it's short and it's good. Recommended. Looking forward to the next part of the story coming.

The canon ending of Liberation Day is lackluster, but there was a free DLC that rewrote the ending and is somewhat satisfying, though obviously there is going to be a fourth game so that DLC ending is going to be noncanon. Still looking forward to seeing where the story goes in #4.

Digimon world next order just relased:

If you like the original for the psx it is a must buy, although heavily discounted because of the usual jap insane pricing.

Japanese publishers making piracy relevant again

I don't know why the fuck are they not doing sensical regional pricing anymore. Like since 2020 they are putting retarded price now that it must hurt sales

The western "consultants" are rich spoiled children who guarantee dirty gajin won't have a problem spending 50 buck/euros on a 5+ year old game.
Edit:
Actual reason is that Bandai always does this and the Japanese prices are even more ridiculous.

I've played Next Order on the PS4. It's a really great game. But come the fuck on. It's a damn port of a Vita game. It shouldn't be 50€. But, hey, this is Digimon. Wouldn't be on brand for them if they didn't fuck it up somehow.
