Really Obscure RPGs

I remember the Feudalism series not being all that good. Couldn't tell you why but they always felt like they were lacking something.
The Protector series, and the My Pet Protector, while not pure RPGs, were pretty good tower defense and raising sims with extensive RPG stats.
Sinjid, from the same people who did Sonny was a pretty cool game, but I guess its just the combat of the later series, completely stripped of any real story. Had some pretty cool music though.
The protector games are on Kongregate too, but I think Sinjid is just on Newgrounds.
I think the problem with a lot of flash games is that while the best are generally cool, it does feel like they're missing something even compared to the best freeware downloadable games, for the most part. TD excepted for obvious reasons.

World's End is a very good tactical game.
Awakening was really good but incomplete (even abandoned, unfortunately) last time I checked.
Feudalism series was a kind of flash Mount & Blade before M&B even existed.
Arcuz 1 & 2 are quite good action RPG, dungeon crawler, weapon customization, huge bosses.

Have any of the games mentioned itt actually been worth playing?

If you like any of these game's genre, you should try, I even think there is a world's End 2.
Don't expect them to compete with the Codex Top 70 but as far as free games go, they're solid.

I don't think I completed any Feudalism game but it was a nice time waster to spend 2-8 hours on.
And I don't even like the genre.

Out of your list I recommend the following:

  • Dark Hear of Uukrul- One of Crooked Bee's favorite games. I liked it a lot, but didn't enjoy the final dungeon, which was more puzzles than combat. Other Codexers love the final dungeon because of that reversal. The magic in the game is different and fun, too. Definitely a strong recommend.
  • Demon's Winter- It's a tactical RPG by SSI at the company's golden year period... it's going to be good.
  • Prince of Qin- This is a historical isometric action RPG that plays somewhat like a blend of Baldur's Gate and Divine Divinity. I really enjoyed it and recommend the game. Be aware it has multiple endings dependant upon your choices.
  • The Legend of Cao Cao- Highly recommended! This tactical RPG was fantastic with more than one ending deciding on your choices. I really liked the good ending. The evil ending is more historically accurate. :)
Maybe:

  • 7 Mages- I played this a bit on my mobile phone. It was interesting and maybe worth a go, but it didn't keep my interest.
  • Aethra Chronicles- I can't recommend this, although I am going to give it another go sometime. The graphics aren't great, but it is a solid tactical RPG. It's just one of those games that you have to set aside a few hours for to get used to the interface and gameplay. The buildings all look generic so you'll have to make your own maps. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but I am saying that getting used to Aethra Chronicles will take an investment on the player's part.
  • Evil's Doom- Despite my playing a bunch of them, I'm not into blobbers all that much because I prefer tactical RPGs where positioning is important. But I've had my eye on Evil's Doom. The intro video is fantastic, and those Amiga graphics are gorgeous. It looks Conan-inspired, which is another big plus. Maybe I'll try this one day, but I still have Grimoire, Wizardry 7, and Legend of Grimrock 2 on my backlog. Oh, and I've heard great things about it... it's the reason I might have to figure out how to get an Amiga emulator running.
  • Konung- I just purchased this game and it's sequel. Supposedly it's a generic Baldur's Gate clone with a Slavic/Norse setting. If you loved Baldur's Gate you might like this poor man's version. I hear the sequel is the more playable game due to better UI, but the two games are sold together. Another game on my backlog.
  • Realmz- Another game that many on this site have recommended. I was tempted to give it a try because I love myself some tactical RPGs (and SRPGs), but I was told the campaign is short and it's more of a module builder like FRUA. Maybe someone else can clarify that.
  • Teudogar and the Alliance with Rome- I haven't played it, but it's a cult favorite for some of the old timers here.
  • Crusaders of Might and Magic- It always looked too wonky for me, but some people here enjoyed it, bugs and all.
Avoid:
  • Amulets & Armor- I was excited to give this a go after playing Elder Scrolls: Arena. After an hour of gameplay, I realized why it was a commercial bomb. Try it for curiosity's sake and since it is freeware now, but don't expect to spend a lot of time here.
  • Moraff's Revenge- Shareware bordering on shovelware. I'm being a bit cruel about this game, since it did have a small following in its day. I didn't think much of it and can't recommend.
  • WarWizard- Don't recommend. I tried it, but it was a slog and was probably not playtested. A very amateur effort.

Going through that list myself...

Buggy as hell:
Blind Justice
Defender of Boston
Night Watch (well, not so much buggy as a pain to run)
WarWizard

Those that aren't:
Ancients
Don't Go Alone
Psionics
Vampyr: Talisman of Invocation

Some that Ross Scott covered:
Chosen: The Well of Souls
Clans
Requital

Not RPGs to my knowledge:
Federation Quest
Mortalus
Xenomorph

If that's the same Abaddon I think it is, that game is basically the first major western RPGmaker game. The Screamer, if I'm also not mistaken, is a Japanese-only game that's kind of weird. (Last Armageddon too)
I think of those, the closest I can say are good games are Demise and Moraff's World. In that while I haven't extensively played those games, I did enjoy Morder II and Moraff's Dungeons of the Unforgiven, which are in the same series. They're both solid dungeon crawlers, doing well for the genre in a time period where they were disappearing in. I also recognize several games as ones I'm interested in, but haven't gotten around to playing. I recognize a few, like Perihelion, Demon's Winter, Planet Alcatraz, The Odyssey and Dark Heart of Uukrul as being underrated classics, but haven't actually played them. Real interested in that Three Musketeers game now too.

Perihelion is an Amiga-original game from 1993, only ever released on the Amiga and in Europe, with insanely good aesthetics:

I don't know if it's really obscure, but I didn't hear about it until a month ago, just to find that the game was pulled off steam because they remastered it on other platforms (Just not PC????). The Last Remnant. It's made by Squeenix, but it's gem in the rough, IMO. The character designs are kinda goofy and memetic. Like you got buff fish dudes with cheesy grins on their faces smacking stuff with clubs and battle axes, and frogger mages that can rain destruction on the battlefield, and these 4 armed cat dudes that quad wield 1hs or dual wield 2hs. It's sorta like a saga frontier game, with some random, and strategic elements to the combat. Which attack selection options you get have some randomness associated with them, but the composition of the squad and their class/weapon/abilities can make certain actions weighted to show up over others. The game has some charm, humor and originality to it, and I can give a game a pass on some of its flaws as long as it looks like an effort was made to do something original. I won't spoil it too much, so I'll be intentionally vague by saying that I just got past the part in the story where little tam tam gets her comeuppance by the patriarchy .

Too much of a CYOA from what I've heard.
It's weird - it's been adapted from a variety of PnP single-player modules, so there's a lot of CYOAing going on, but they also mapped these modules onto an Ultima-like structure with open exploration and clue gathering. The bigger problem is level scaling.

Only thing I know about T&T was that it was made by Americans (Flying Buffalo, or something) and the equivalent of a Fireball spells was called "Take that, you fiend!".
Oh, and it was a Play-by-Mail game, also. May still be, for all I know.

Earlier this year I finished the game. I really had a lot of fun playing it. Being able to explore the whole world freely gives you a great sense of adventure. In your wanderings you encounter many situations, fights and events (yes, a lot of CYOA here).

Things I remember: being captured by orcs and turned into slaves in the sulfur mines (losing all equipment, including various magic weapons), the fight against the troll on the bridge that I could only win using a ring of fire (30000 points of damage from a single shot!! it was like wearing a small Death Star on my finger) or the encounter with the beast from the blackwater swamp (impossible to win... the swamp was a no-go zone for me ).
