In a year from now we'll see the combat demo with some half assed content tacked on and they'll call the game officially complete. Its gonna be another 3/10 game from krautland like that realms of arcania remake.

Can we get a support group to help us out through these tough times? How do you come to terms with a world where realms beyond isn't welcome?
Do not worry, your rpg cravings should be met once cyberpunk gets released!

I don't like guns. Also, that game seems to care more about cinematic shit than actual gameplay mechanics. Also not an rpg based on the definition I go off of.

The German government recently announced during Gamescom 2020 that there would be a €40 million budget that would be used to help German game developers with their projects. I was 100% certain that these guys would apply for some of that money. I think they already got money at an earlier date, but it shouldn't mean that they can try again.
Spending taxpayer money to fund videogame developers. Good to know 30% of the product's retail price goes to ol' Gaben. Thanks, frau Merkel!

It's not like the government knows what to do with that money anyway. It's good they are funding something cool.

If a reasonable percentage of the games funded from that grant does reasonably well, the state will get back significantly more in future taxes than it would spend. It's an investment scheme, not charity.
1. An investment scheme with other people's money, people who get no say about the investment. What's the word for that?

2. The only money really brought in are those from buyers from outside Germany. And still, the marketplaces get their cut of 30%, before frau can tax the developer's cut.

3. If 40 mln EUR are not spent on game developers but returned to the taxpayers, maybe they will invest it better, or at least buy the games they want.

People get a say in the investment. They elect representatives that decide how to spend that money.

Don't know about that, man. People are kinda dumb.

The videogames industry is a relevant actor in today's economy. Supporting it makes sense.

It's more than that. By funding certain sectors government is able to expand them. So if a domestic game market export is small compared to other countries subsidies can help in establishing a few new studios. Those studios may grow in the future creating more jobs and better games strengthening the country in that market. It also helps in creating a more experienced workforce in the given sector.

Now look into malinvestment. If you’re going to have the state act as “investor” might as well fight for your share but don’t be naive as to the barnacles which naturally attach themselves to that process.

You know that ridiculous projects are also founded by private capital? (look up for Juicero for a good laugh). In the case we are discussing it doesn't matter if a given project succeeds or not, it's more about macroeconomics effects of funneling some capital into a given sector.

No in a year or so they will write a very emotional letter about the fantastic journey it was , the failures and success and how distraught they were to cancel the project . And there will still be guys like jarinex on discord who will empathize with them and wish them good luck on life.

Of course they are all taking second jobs to reimburse us....
