Statement: RDR2 is the biggest decline in the history of gaming.
Argument: Yes, you have your shitty Bethesda/Ubisoft type games, but those games are shit because those studios are simply incompetent, or want to produce tons of cheap shit, so they cut down on quality.
But Rockstar with RDR2 might be the first studio ever to actually make their gameplay shit on purpose, to sacrifice it for the sake of cinematics/tight scripting.
- You put rifles on your back, get on a horse, Arthur removes them to the horse
- missions start, rifles appear on your back if you didn't select them
- some missions, they randomly put different clothing on you, to fit the mission
- you cannot remove weapons from inventory at all, so you have to cycle through 50 guns on your horse to get the only one you actually use, every single fucking time
- during missions, Arthur will select a different revolver than the one I have equipped
- missions will Fail all the time if you deviate 2 steps from EXACTLY how the devs want you to behave
- one bank robbery mission, you and the gang ride across railroad tracks to escape the posse, if you take the smarter route around the train instead of rushing into its path, you fail, becaue the ending cinematic has the posse stopped by train
- during missions chases, if instead of running in the open like an idiot, you drop into cover and try to pick the pursuing enemies off, you fail, because you get too far from the rest of your idiots
These are just a few examples off the top of my head. The game is full of shit like this.
It tries to kill player agency in every possible way. No other game did I ever feel this way about. I mean Witcher 3, for example, is a very story heavy, cinematics heavy game, but once the cinematic is over, you get to play, to fucking play, until the next one. Here, you feel like a poodle being led around hoops.
