So from people who like Gothic 1/2: Is Dark Souls a worth a try even played on a PC? Which one should one start with?

Install DSfix and mousefix and you're done. Gamepad is optional, not necessary.

DS2 is somewhat better port.

And Roxor pointed obvious thing - quoting date registration is retarded. Because even aforementioned "veterans" could trashtalking or cannot into common sense in vidya gaemz. Sad but true.

Somehow the controls weren't that bad with dsfix.

The mouse movement still felt jerky for me with dsfix and mousefix, and they still didn't solve the terrible control scheme of WSAD + arrows + mouse. That was what pissed me off the most, I just wanted to put menus on the F1-12 keys or whatever, but the goddamn game just wouldn't let me do that.

Dark Souls on the PC is completely unplayable because of the literally terriworst controls I've ever seen for KB/M. Some folks will tell you that it's all a-okay with a kool konsole kontroller, but alas I couldn't try that, so I rage quit pretty fast.

And mind you, those are not strange controls or something that needs getting used to like Gothic, no, they are literally completely broken, unresponsive and counterintuitive. They also require you to grow a 3rd hand to operate them properly. Also, no actual key rebinding.

A little bit of bullshit. I finished both games with KB/M and overall it was ok. Is true that a gamepad is better for these games but the penalty of KB/M is not so big. The biggest problem is the retarded camera which can fuck you up in intensive fights like S&M.

But the patched DS PC version is the best version of the game: gorgeous visuals, no loading times, better frame rates and so on. Ideal situation is to play the PC versions with a gamepad.

EDIT: And indeed rebinding is mandatory and atrocious but it is solvable in max 20 minutes. Which it seems that is too much for Darth Roxor.

You can't rebind many of the keys that matter (like the arrows iirc), and you also can't rebind them to many sections of the keyboard which are just disabled for rebinding, which is essentially all the keys that aren't alphabet letters. So you can stuff it.

Nomen est Omen, as far as it relates to the Dragon Snapper. One look at that quick and tough beast and you have no trouble imagining its razor sharp teeth and claws ripping the flesh from your bones. And often, these agile predators are not alone but hunt in packs of up to three members.

With a size of about 2 metres (6.5 ft), his jaws close quicker around your head than anyone could want. And the Dragon Snapper does not have to suddenly appear right in front of the character. He can leap at you from a greater distance without any trouble.

Spiders are feared by many people but these specimens are frightful indeed. The Great Jungle Spider has really earned its name, reaching a size of 2-3 meters (6.5 to 10 ft). Her motto is: If you are smaller than me, I'll try to eat you.

Because of their dark colour and the fact that these tough opponents reside in caves, they are usually discovered very late. Too late, some adventurers might say.

In the spider hierarchy they are above the regular jungle spiders which are also quite unpleasant critters. During a fight, one has to watch out for the devious attacks of the spider legs.

Yes, rebinding is limited. But you have 30+ alphabetic keys + numeric keys + special combinations (alt, ctrl, etc) and that's not enough for you !? Damn.

After reading all the bits of info from people who have played R3 I think I am going to replay Gothic 2 and masturbate while weeping.

Never tried Risen 2 tbh. Am I missing much?

If you want some catharsis or you're game developer and want to learn how to NOT making games.

I forget about R3 until -75% of complete version and just play some mods, there is some interesing new adventures for G1 and G2. I made it after R2 preview and seems like it will happen again with R3 one.

Not really. Nice setting but combat is pretty shit outside of muskets (which are overpowered). There are no guilds/factions like in previous games, only a shallow choice between Inquisition and Native that makes little difference other than unlocking the highest level of either guns or voodoo. It's sort of fun but very shallow.

There's a review of it (however flawed) and a super long thread about it on here if you actually give a fuck and want to read about the game. Assuming you don't actually want to do that: the second half is linear to a fault, but the opening is okay. Musket combat and colonial setting are worth experiencing. I don't regret playing it, but I wouldn't call it good.

I would agree with this -- it's rare DF has a sensible opinion. It's not Arcania bad (that makes you want to install within a couple of hours). Palatable enough to keep pushing forth in the hopes that it improves but it never does.
