So from people who like Gothic 1/2: Is Dark Souls a worth a try even played on a PC? Which one should one start with?
Thx guys. From what I read here, it doesn't look like I'll bother (in the near future).

Why so much hate for Risen 2? I've tried the demo recently and it seems to be a decent game. Maybe this is because I am new to Gothic/Risen series, though.

It is a decent game, Codexers are just too high-brow. Admitting that a popular and modern computer game is to their tastes would demean them.

Last dungeon in R1 was fun, especially when the combat system was good. Last boss on the other hand... well, I know it's mighty titan and the only way to slay him was making some puzzle-acrobatic-mumbo-jumbo that I last saw in some old '90 TPP action games a'la Tomb Raider or whatever that was.

Still - last phase of the game was good considering the fact that some of the good games (even most praised Codex games from Top50) have not that good last phaze, sometimes they feels obviously rushed because release date was on horizon, or just shoot out from ideas and publisher are waiting for last cut or something like that.

Yes, Risen 1 had a pretty good endgame dungeon, much better than the one from Gothic 1, for example.

Gothic 1 also had the same 'you must use this weapon to kill the endboss" idea as Risen, if I recall correctly, although it was a sword not a hammer.

I haven't played any other PB game to completion, so my comparison must remain limited.

It's not completely awful, it's just painfully mediocre when compared with PBs older, better games, and so inevitably produced a lot of disappointment.

'Sterile' is the word I'd use. It takes everything that was good about prior PB games -- combat, exploration, guilds/factions, meaningful character progression, challenge -- and removes them. It also adds dumb shit like QTEs and mini-games. As awful as the last boss in R1 was the R2 boss, while more traditional, was absurdly easy. She summons those little crab things you kill on the beach in the fucking prologue, such a powerful ability! Killed her in under a minute, couldn't believe that was it.

That's because you are possibly retarded. Moreover, you can't 'disagree' with aspects such as the lack of proper factions and the addition of QTEs. Those are facts, not an opinion.

Risen 2 is simply generic and boring, there is not much other to say, combat is boring, you have insta healing,it is much easier, exploration is boring, skills are generic action rpg,no memorable characters, no factions, no memorable armor, pirates hurr .... etc.
I played it and got bored after the first island.
This is coming from someone that finished every other game in the Series and played trough gothic 2 and Risen 1 about 3-4 times each

I can disagree that those facts dont make the game bad. No factions? So? QTEs were so few and far between that they are a non issue.

I liked a lot of stuff in the game, characters and dialogue, skills (dirty tricks, voodoo, monkeys), setting, combat, visuals and atmosphere, the guns, treasures and unique items, crew, visiting different islands.

I dont kow how you come with these adjectives, sterile? What does that even mean?

I'm so sad that every time Risen 2 is mentioned, no one ever talks about that sequence in the New World-esque port where you mind control (voodoo?) the colonial overseer guy and make him say all sorts of absurd shit. I don't care if the rest of the game was basically mediocre garbage, that moment was hilarious enough to justify a playthrough.

You do realize that in the first quotation I am talking about Risen 1, and in the second about Risen 2? Nonetheless I find both games decent. Both games are very enjoyable, the first Risen was very uneven though. The first chapter, which had about 50% of the game, and the very short second one were really good, I'd even say on par with Gothic 2. I had lots of fun in them. Then chapter 3 and 4 came, which were damn terrible and I only continued my playthrough because the game was great before. If I knew it won't get better I would stop playing right away in chapter 3. Very disappointing experience.

Risen 2 was decent all the way through (except boss fights). It had better dialogues and humour, combat was mixed (swordfighting was terrible, playing with guns was nice) and the exploration a bit limited (not that there was less territory or stuff to find, just that at the beginning I had to follow the storyline to unlock new isles). I enjoyed the beginning of Risen 1 the most of Risen series, but overall I'd say the games are on par, because late parts of Risen are irritating.

The late parts of Risen 2 are very irritating, as you do nothing else but plow through corridor islands engaging in the always the same shoot-roll-shoot combat. I liked the game until the Sword Coast, after that it got really boring because of said repetetive gameplay. Risen 1's endgame is saved by excellent combat system, at least.

Most of us probably went muskets like real colonizing Westerners should.

That much is true, yes. All the mind control scenarios were p. hilarious, in fact.

I played Risen 1 for a few hours (about 6 or so), did some quests in the swamp area, and it was banal. Why would I play any of the other Risens?

Not majestic and epic enough for you?

:hmmm:

I can't explain it with words. It just didn't draw me in: the story didn't engage me enough (though I liked the concept of being ship-wrecked), the combat seemed too simple, and the areas weren't varied enough.

It's not a terrible game, but I didn't enjoy it enough to want to keep playing.
