Oh come on, you can't measure the difficulty of your playthrough with others if you have a progression curve like that. I assume you did Defiance Bay and maybe even the full Od Nua before going to Dyrford if you were at level 10. It's obvious that Dyrford is piss easy if you go there with a level 10 party.

I for example went to Dyrford before Defiance bay and Od Nua, around 4-5 level, and it was just the right challange for me.
Most of the game is for low level despite how easy it is to level. I did things in the order I came across them. I don't see how this is anything other than a flaw of the game.

Edit: it doesn't matter what order you do stuff in. You overlevel super quickly and everything becomes easymode.

If Dungeons of Aledorn really gets released and becomes better (or at least as decent a game as) than PoE I'll LOL like hell.
Specially considering that the game struggled to get funded and was almost snubbed/ignored by the gaming press in general.
Imo Serpent in the Staglands has a potential to become, sure, maybe not better than PoE in terms of content, but better it in spirit of what it tries to be (Darklands), maybe with a better, more stylish setting at least.

I was level 7 when I hit dyrford village. I'm level 9 at Twin Elms.

WL2 was much worse.
Believe me, since I have been looking hard at all the info I can about Divinity, WL2 and PoE just lately, that is the consensus I have seen. Divinity seems to be on top, with Wasteland trailing behind and PoE following up the rear in a cloud of flames.

PoE is getting shat on because it was made by obsidian entertainment who is seen as a creator of pretty good rpg's. People had very high hopes, which can be seen by Darth R0x0r in the review here..

quote :When Obsidian Entertainment started their Kickstarter campaign for Pillars of Eternity in 2012 (under a working title of Project Eternity), many saw it as the second coming of Christ for cRPGs. There it was: the veteran developers from everyone’s beloved Black Isle Studios, reinforced by Tim Cain himself, wanted to bring us a modern successor to the Infinity Engine games. In their pitch, Obsidian described Eternity as something that would marry the combat of Icewind Dale, the narrative of Planescape: Torment and the exploration of Baldur’s Gate. Considering that a few years earlier Obsidian had given us the two Neverwinter Nights 2 expansions, Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir, that also fit parts of the above bill, it looked like there was no other choice but to get hyped.""

Wasteland 2 did not have as high hopes because it was not created by an as established rpg developer.

PoE's design is also heresy to a lot of IE veterans because it is watered down to the point of not feeling like IE at all besides graphically and musically.

Somehow missed this, great review as expected ,with the usual witty rejoinders in the comments from those impressed by philosophy 101 questions and GM campaign notes-tier writing.
This game will be remembered as Sawyers Legacy: The rebirth of Hollowborn games.

So basically PoE is to Obsidian what Dragon Age was to Bioware? Not a beginning but instead an ending. The last nail in the coffin. Fuck Sawyer! If Obsidian were smart they'd fire his dumb ass.

I suspect it will be more akin to the NWN2 OC - the beginning to a couple of expansions that are a significant improvement over the base game.

A significant improvement won't take much. An actual good game would require a complete overhaul of how combat works.

For what it's worth, PoE would be a good basis for something heavily storyfaggy as it is now. Obsidian would just need to get their shit together and cut out on the stupid fedex and lack of actual reactivity.

Anything apart from that, though... That would need some serious overhauls.

The same retards who now bash POE vote DA as the RPG of the year.

This is pretty hilarious since I thought DA was garbage for many of the same reasons I don't love POE. Namely, combat too-inspired by MMOs and endless trash combat. Now that you mention it, the games are a lot more similar than I realized.

Combat system should be reworked in POE. Period. However, in POE's case it can still be salvaged, while DA's combat system was doomed from the start.

Both games need to be completely rebalanced and rebuilt with better encounter design and AI while jettisoning the various degenerate mechanics in them, but I have to give DA the edge because at least it was more original and had more interesting character development.

I am playing on hard. Now I am level 8, 40 hrs in the game and I don't see much problems with encounters. There are just problems with stats/items/wizard class/some combat dynamics. But then encounters themselves are OK.

The bolded part deserves a separate mention.

DA: Stats and buffs matter a shit ton, skills are gained non-linearly, skills are generally novel and have various synergies (even if some of them are literally hardcoded I-Win buttons, I'll take that in a game with hours of trash combat, especially when the presentation is awesome). Prestige class options.
PoE: Stats and buffs matter far less, skills are gained linearly, skills are somehow more bland than D&D, the system which has been extensively used for over 40 years now and should rightfully be the most bland in existence, yet PoE manages to top it about 20s after reading the skills.

Yeah, firing the lead designer of the best recevied, financially successfull game of theirs. Jebus you are a retard. Let me give you a hint, nobody cares about the Codex's opinion outside of this forum.

Were we REALLY expecting this to be better than BG2
Goodness gracious, no! Who would really expect any game to be better than an over-glorified hack 'n slash using butchered AD&D.
Legends say that when the stars align we may see a game that comes close to the significance of BG2, but eh, I'm sceptical.

What a joke.
I want. But I want a game that's not a clone of BG. I want Numenera to be better than Torment: Planescape too. Not because I dislike them, but I'm tired to have old games being better than new ones.

WL2 was much worse.

See, you say this, but when I go back and read the Codex review, and see the commentary on that game, Wasteland 2 is portrayed as being a much better experience. Magnitudes better actually.

It comes down to expectations and promises. WL2 alluded to Fallout and promised little. D:OS alluded to nothing and promised nothing. PoE compared itself to best IE games, and promised the world.
