Remember, sales is proof of quality when games you hate don't sell well, while it is just proof of the stupidity of the masses when skyrim sells 10 billion

Well it's not the same thing, Skyrim is an AAA game while PoE and D:OS arguably belong to the same niche. D:OS has some shit that appeals to mass market though, like the WoW visual style and Co-Op so hard to say.

Agreed that the games are comparable, but nobody's doing any intelligent comparisons. It's always "I love DOS, why didn't it sell as much as POE? OMG fucking stupid people" or "I love DOS and its way better than POE that's why it sold more".

When a Codexer ignores sales and insists the opinions of the masses never have anything to do with the quality of the game, I can respect that.
When a Codexer selectively applies sales numbers, they just show they don't have the balls to stand up for a game with their own opinion, they think they need the support of the masses.

Sales usually reflect polish, moment-to-moment gameplay, and being able to feed the right player fantasy. I think generally, codexian tastes simply don't care about polish, and is very tolerant of poor moment-to-moment gameplay in exchange for bigger picture elements.

I think that's too much of a generalization. We have, after all, collectively voted D:OS as the best RPG of 2014, a game with a lot of polish, great moment-to-moment gameplay, but a fairly underwhelming "big picture".

Looking at the Top70, I'd say that, compared to the general public, the Codex is more willing to forgive subpar aspects of a game if it makes up for them with greatness elsewhere. The list doesn't have a lot of "good at everything" games.

The fuck did Roguey do that got ya'll so damn salty? Is he that much of a vicious PoEdrone?

Are you new around these parts?

That's not passive-aggressive bro, just dismissive. If someone actually bothers to properly shit on a post of yours, you will know, and it won't be passive at all.

Grab the Codex by the pussy
This review is clearly the true and proper Codex review of PoE, in no small part because it sets forth this immutable fact:

RTwP is flawed by default.

I cannot take seriously any review which fails to presuppose such an essential fact or, even more incredibly, dares to refute its immutability.

I love that section

RTWP is shit and here's why!

POE combat mechanics are amazing and Sawyer did a brilliant job, you will take my word for it

Truly the review the codex deserves

People really want PoE to be reviewed 7 times. At least wait for expansion, then you have new content and all the balance passes so far to consider if the game is worth revisiting

Good review, I agree with most of it.

Pillars of Eternity is still easily the best CRPG released in the past decade, though. When you're famished for food, anything above mediocrity will do.
