Played savior of sapphire game for a bit seem alright.
It's remake of Students of the Round, right? Can you play with old character's look?

turn the alternate graphics on in SotSC and your statement would be unironically true. the animu art in that game was fuckin terrible, the original is the way to go for sure. least the art in Savior looks halfway decent.

anyways, anyone have the chance to play the PC version yet? I haven't started yet, too much on my plate right now but do either of the two games retain that feature from the original SotSC where you can mod your own character art in? I loved that shit and wanna make a new crack party to go through the remake and Savior

very excited for this one. No real interest in playing SoSC yet again as I already finished it when it first came out, but Students of the Round remake is definitely something I want to experience.

So wait a second, is the old, and serious looking art style still there or is it all just weeb trash now?

for SotSC it should be, yea, but even the original PC port allowed you to choose from the good art and the weeb art. as cute as it made Riu and that hat girl what I forgot her name, the original art style was drastically better. For one egregious sin, it turns Kyo from the intense motherfucker he is into, well....this

now i'm a weeb myself but i'd be lying if I told you that vomit-inducing shite was better than the original artwork, eugh

as for Savior of Sapphire Wings I haven't touched that at all yet nor the game it was remade from so I have no idea if it has alternate art styles as well

The original style of Sapphire (when it was Students of the Round) was like this:

So it has gone from Shining Force style to Etrian Odyssey or worse mobile anime game.....

If I liked Stranger of Sword City will this game be worth playing? I am annoyed with how easy SoSC is though as it feels like 99% of encounters are trash mobs where I just press X and then A.

Common opinion is Savior of Sapphire Wings is easier than Stranger of Sword City. Can't comment on it myself as I've only played Stranger of Sword City

That's... bad.

What about the dungeon layouts?
I though they were pretty primitive / one note in SoSC. Is there a chance of them being better in Sapphire Wings? Closer to the level of either Elminage?

Saviors of Sapphire Wings seems be to worse than Stranger of Sword City nearly every way possible (15h played so far, city 80h+). Not really character customization besides picking main/side class, everything is more clunky for example auto-walk stops every time there is some shitty item on the ground, cannot reorganize items easily need to put everything on stash first, softlocks and so on.

It is still fine / acceptable but art, maps and boss encounters are worse than city. Random encounters are same as city few second and no really danger and item farming is more tedious because need to use food items to spawn enemies and when inventory size limit is 100 and is very unorganized it is annoying. Using higher tier item seems to spawn more higher level enemies which most likely drop better items so that is something positive at least. Also there are no marks on maps and u cannot add your own so be prepared to write coordination.

Classes also seems to be quite unbalanced samurais as is tradition are very good and so are healers with holy barrier spamming similar to City. Mages and other casters dmg seems to be very low compared to melee and dont offer too much utility.

Druid on the other hand is quite interesting class with catching enemies. Some are actually decent dealing dmg and absorbing hits.

Still going to finish this game (most likely) and play revisited after a year or two.

Have you played labyrinth of refrain? Would you put it above sapphire wings? I'm having fun with Labyrinth of refrain but i was also interested in sapphire wings.

Its been a while since I finished Labyrinth but I think I enjoyed it more than SoSW.
I would say SoSC is around 8.5/10, Labyrinth 8~/10 and SoSW 7.3~/10. Still none of these games are even close to the greatness of Elminage Gothic.

Also I finished SoSW ending was fine and wrapped up story nicely even when it was very basic. It is a very easy game I died twice I think. Characters were better than SOSC and music was very good overall I dont mind finishing it. Probably never replaying it thought.

Started Sapphire Wings. So you CAN change portraits to old style when new character joins. NPCs are still generic animu.
I'm fine with it being on the easy side - exactly what i need right now.
