AFAIK, medium and large ships work that way, you have different "stations" like in Star Trek and having actual humans doing the job instead of AIs give you the chance to have a better performing ship.

Can't blame them. It's waaaaaay more profitable to wait until the buzz has died down after the release of motherfucking Grimoire. All they need to do to stay afloat is release a new ship in their cash shop every 2 months.

So, I had some time with Arena Commander, and I can safely say that it is a piece of shit. First, I can't remap the buttons ingame, because the options menu is pathetic. You can only change the volume and the graphics detail level. Ok, no biggie, I can map buttons on my joystick with the programming software. The flight modell is buggy, sometimes the ship makes sudden moves during a turn or roll. Game is pay to win basicly, in a match against humans, I always end up fighting against 300i ships. I could take out 2 or 3, but they raped my Aurora most of the time, since its shields are basicly non existent. Cockpit is buggy, sometimes the camera position is not right, the pilot's hands are just in the air instead of gripping the flight sticks. The ship subsystems are not documented, the same way as nothing is documented in this game (at least I couldn't find any manuals), so it is hard to figure out if you can do anything with the subsystems at all. I see I can cycle between the shields-power-weapon-overall tabs, but do they serve a purpose or you can just look at them?

And to think about that you can already play an advanced version of Elite. Fuck this!

No, user-friendly custom key mapping isn't available yet. It's annoying, but understandable, since the game's still in alpha. You can however alter the XML files yourself.

If your ship is "making sudden moves" during flight, it's due to multiplayer lag, your computer, your peripherals, or some combination of the three. I've never had this problem outside of multiplayer. You've mentioned before that your computer hardware isn't quite up to the task, so I'd look there first.

A newbie in the unusually weak generalist starter ship with no upgrades can "only" win against players flying dedicated fighters some of the time, and "only" in streaks of 2-3 of them, you say? Sounds more like a resounding success than pay-to-win. I don't even know where to begin with this one. I suppose every ship in the game should be able to win solo versus every other ship in the game exactly 50% of the time? Does the concept of ship class not resonate with you at all? What's actually been proven so far is that among dedicated fighters (Hornet, 300i), neither is objectively better than the other, and equipment loadout is rarely the be-all determining factor in victory one-on-one. What's more, someone who's decently experienced with Arena Commander and outfits their Aurora properly can be fairly competitive with the dedicated fighters.

Player skill and other factors being equal, some ships in Elite: Dangerous can outright crush other ships in the game. Better limit everyone to Sidewinder MkIs with standardized equipment!

Yes, the first Google result for "Arena Commander manual" is a link to the 29-page PDF manual, which explains everything you're bitching about in great detail and is kept up-to-date in accordance with major changes.

It's not surprising that an idiot who couldn't figure out how to Google "Arena Commander manual" can't figure out how to play the actual game, either.

And to think about that you can already play an advanced version of Elite. Fuck this!

That could possibly be because ED's development cycle is less than half as long, and it's at least midway through beta, while AC is still in alpha... but wait, that's just crazy talk.

Quit playing Alpha if you don't want Alpha performance and gameplay issues.

My rig is not good enough to run it in the highest settings, but it runs very well on lower, so I don't think it's my machine. Might be lag though, but I'm not sure

You don't get it. My problem is not that a 300i is stronger than a starter ship, that's self explainatory. Of course it is. I know what ship class is by the way, don't need to be smug. The problem is with the concept of people throwing money at the devs, and they get great ships, which destroy the opposition in multiplayer. In the final game I will be able to buy these ingame of course, but right now if you pay>you win in multiplayer.

But you can buy ships in Elite ingame, unlike Star Citizen.

Ok, you are right, I give you that. Although I could say that a manual's place is in the directory of the game, not in the deep of a website.

Yes, ED's development cycle is half as long, despite that that it started development later, and it is made from the 10th of the money Chris Roberts is using. Sure, SC is more ambitious, but instead of all this bullshit FPS module, hangar upgrade, dozens of new ships for sale, real alien languages and the kitchen sink, they should get this game done. In this pace, it won't be ready even in 2016.

That is true. In the current alpha, if you own only an Aurora, then you're stuck with it. I don't like that either and believe everyone should be given a 300i by default, though as I've pointed out, if you spend more than a short time learning the game, the Aurora is adequate.

In my opinion though, the alpha is for bug testing, netcode stressing, and simply demoing and getting a feel for the game, and not so much for playing for pleasure or being competitive. I'm certainly not playing it at the moment.

Every backers should be given during beta , every ships available to try and test, since those ships purchases are absolutely not to own noobs but to "help funding" . Funny thing the hornet is not better right now while being the most expensive , just ram that pathetic ship with an i300 and it will spin around until death....

Oh, it's good you mention it. It is so annoying that ramming your ship into another is a viable tactic if your ship is stronger. I died several times this way. Fucker just rammed into me head-on.

Here's a tip: Don't get rammed.

That said, the Aurora maneuvers like a brick pig stuck in a mudhole compared to fighters. It's one of its weaknesses.

The 12 year old me used ramming as a viable tactic in the Wing Commander games! This bit sounds promising to me. I hope it sticks around. Of course, that might just be nostalgia speaking with rose tinted glasses.

I have hazy memories that in some missions that all I did. Rammed one ship and then the next until the win.

Just catching up on this shit, what in the flying fuck is happening? I just wanted a shooty pew pew game and ended up with a speculative asset bubble?

Its not that bad, you can still buy ships with in game credits. For a mere 60 hours of grinding you can get this highly speculative and volatile constellation asset. The 60 hours come from a chris Robert interview. If its the 200$ model ,3.3 dollars an hour then ...Minimum wages in china is 1.81 $ hourly so i guess i could outsource my star citizen grinding , and get the constellation for much cheaper.

The layout is definitely better, but do we really need the opaque projector screen? It just seems to block the view of space. We have teleprompters nowadays that are practically see-through.

Yes, I know that may be unique to the Aurora. It's still unnecessary.

Official commentary on the game's economy:

98f6759783.png

I should point out that Chris and other prominent developers have faced these sorts of concerns head-on and have addressed them in-depth, matter-of-factly, and publicly (e.g., during livestreams). They are aware that currency shops, "grinding," and pay-to-win are potentially problematic, and haven't shied away from answering the hard questions.

Giving a time estimate for an average player to earn X item so early on in the development process is really an extraordinary level of transparency I've never seen anywhere else.

I mention this because most development teams, especially those planning predatory F2P implementations, generally ignore such questions entirely.

Meanwhile, the Elite people are working on and discussing gameplay instead of micro macrotransactions. :smug:
