I dunno what DU wants but personally, all these cards suggested so far are a little overdesigned. I think hard, simple shapes would be better; classic black font on white. Logos and art shouldn't dominate the design and neither should some fancy line-art. Tasteful and minimalist, IMO - hard and sharp, like a razor.

Edit: Immortal has a good entry, with some tweaking. That's just my opinion, though.

The alignment on almost everything on that card is fucked. If people are happy with a non-edgy card I can upload the .psd and let someone fix it.

Yeah, see, I was kind of hoping that by offering a decent reward - we'd:

a) Get some good designs that people had put some effort into.

b) Wouldn't get a flood of lulzy crap.

I guess I was wrong.

People are more motivated by brofists then lunch money.

Also - Nobody answered my question, will these be printed in color?

Actually expecting something serious from the 'dex? Well, Codex already has recognizable "corporate branding" in the website design. Why not apply it to official stuff as well? Saves the effort of designing something new that doesn't look like crap. Business card at 300 DPI, backside should be empty:

Same principle for stylistically matching letterhead: the title with scanlines and troll lifting d20 on top margin and whatever info you want on bottom margin with clear sans serif font. Keep it simple, no gaudy frills.
I like this one, but I'd still like it better if the troll was walking up an incline. Symbolism and all that.

Believe it or not, we actually used to get decent shit submitted whenever we ran a competition.

Then at some point, everything became rape jokes.

Now that's all we get.

Well, Codex already has recognizable "corporate branding" in the website design. Why not apply it to official stuff as well? Saves the effort of designing something new that doesn't look like crap.
Presumably, yes, someone with brains would think to use existing imagery. I didn't think I'd have to state "Hey guys, use Codex shit in the design for the Codex". But I deliberately left it open for a reason, ref response to earlier question.

Come on, the razor blade is pretty good*. And some others are not too shabby as well.

*I mean, it should probably be modified to be in card format (with a razor as the background, maybe?), I think an actual format like a razor blade would come with a lot of practical downsides.
Especially with a hole in it.
But that is all solvable.

The razor blade lacks a troll, though.
Troll is a must, felipepepe .

Let's give this thread a week or two. True art cannot be rushed.

Jokes aside, I have actually been working on a reasonable letterhead and it does take a lot longer than "lulzy crap".

But I can't help enjoying being told off for posting lulzy crap by someone who trolls the forum as regularly as DU does
Hopefully I'll finish before we all become Andhaira again and hitlerfist each other in Comic Sans :salute:

That one is a tricky one. On the one hand it looks kind of gay and hipstery, on the other hand's it's kind of cool.

And Different Tropes For Different Folks, And So On And So On …

murioc_gypsy brilliantly renders this established, powerful image:
troll_1.png

in shades of Sisyphus, as metaphor of the Incline / Decline in the RPG experience.

Some might prefer a social realist Atlas from the age when ‘mass had a quality all its own’,
atlas-statue-rockefeller-center-new-york-city.jpg

when millions were mobilized to oppose millions, or the individual would die.

The Codex is not confused with sacrifices for some mass marketing socialist good,

AND SO, another classical western civ myth would ID our beloved cartooned Troll as Atlas merely bearing the burden of the whole world,

an illusion of grander worthy of any quixotic quest.

Close to murioc_gypsy’s suggestion.

I agree the dye bearing troll could convey the Codex to perfection,

as an image to background the communicating text,

I would suggest a special close up dramatic diagonal version as depicted above, commissioned from MCA, or approved by MCA to be executed via a third party.

Best looking one so far, although my heart is torn between this one and the old-school one
