Tried the playstation 3 emulator which, apparently, has only recently become compatible with mgs4. Got the game running, but audio was awful. I don't have a beast rig so that may have been the problem. Persistent crashes at the end of the first stage forced me to cut the game short.
How much you like hard slaughtermaps and combat puzzles? Sunlust in HMP is playable for the lazy-but-competent Doom player (I know I am) but UV becomes kind of.... insane.
Haven't heard of them.
I'm mostly going by Cacowards and Codex recommendations (Vanguard, Valiant, Ancient Aliens). I'm probably going to try Stardate 20x6/20x7 by Ribbiks next, if Sunlust doesn't break me.
Ol' Willy I did this trick. Farmed eye gears on 5th lvl for a half of hour or so, bought some "expedition gear" and went off. After clearing ruin's surface took 7 lvl and 10 when picked up the scheme after all necessary parts as well. The most tough opponents there were fire spiders, they're obliterating me on hard w/o heavy real time kite.

I thought about it first along the way there but they're throwing fireballs and pretty fast overall. It's nice that I was able to clear them somehow, or I had to running aroung a lot I guess.
Map 15 is the first map that, I would say, even a highly skilled Doom pro wouldn't be able to beat first try. You need to have a good strategy for every fight.
That's a bit tight.
"Postcoitus Doom"
This map is garbage. Like, here are 40 Archviles and a BFG. Good luck!
A change of scenery.
Are they getting digested?
Of course, you can't cover all of them. And when I tried to kill one or two of them first, I would get overwhelmed by the other monsters. The key is to switch sides before they do.
Way to finish a map.
Literal monster closets!
Inverti in Darkness has been the hardest map so far, mainly because of this fight against 4 Archviles, Barons, and a Cyberdemon. I found a fairly reliable but kinda dumb method. I run into this closet to hide from the Archvile attacks, and wait for the Cyberdemon to come around the corner and shoot a rocket at me. It looks dangerous, but a Baron will usually appear right at the last moment and catch the rocket, which will damage most of the enemies and make them all fight the Cyberdemon. Usually...
