unconnected singular campaigns

Pretty sure. But my knowledge of the Heroes universe is not very fresh in my mind

Actually they are somewhat connected.
Conquest of the Underworld involves Queen Catherine's ancestors and Sword of Frost is a bridge between Armageddon's Blade and HoMM IV.

The overall storyline is quite interesting, but the actual writing is barely over fan fiction level and generally too verbose and dealing with banal matters.

Playing the HCs with handicaps, I've enjoyed Warlord of the Wasteland, Sword of Frost and the first map at least of The World Tree, but nothing can save Conquest of the Underworld from being an odorous pile of metabolism discharge matter.

I just finished playing Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader.

15 years ago I promised my teenage self I would play this game one day. A lot of bad things were said about this game and I can confirm it's all true.

Its only redeeming value to me was its art. I thought it looked pretty good. Case in hand (slight spoilers):

bTB9qYj.png

Barcelona. The adventure starts here and the town looks nice. Some of the quests in this area can be solved with dialogue checks. You can sleep with a woman too, but she pilfers 500 gold pieces from you. You can get even with her and steal the random magical object in her treasure chest.

Y82O3CZ.png

Some interiors in Barcelona are pretty good looking too.

uTKugiD.png

One of the only two pubs in the game. Looking good but pretty empty.

rdXSANL.png

Bar #2 is in Montaillou, the second and last actual town of the game you visit. The area was interesting but slightly underwhelming as there wasn't much to do except to kill many wolves.

HyrOWPM.png

Goblins. They look inoeffensive but this battle is a deathtrap. I had to reload maybe 15 times to get it done.

MBq1WBp.png

Typical unfair fight #147. You load in a new area and there's like 15 enemies to fight at the same. They flank you in 3 seconds and then you're dead. Gotta reload many times and/or run to the exit to heal (enemies don't go through doors!)

The game ending is the worst one I have ever seen.
iuB2ZuZ.png

The plot of the game is to find who tried to kill you but failed doing so. This is the final battle and he's the one trying to kill you.

ThSfoIO.png

The final battle is strangely easy compared to all the unfair fights you went through just before. But obviously when you win, you didn't really win.

K9GOm8d.png

And obviously the bad guy is still alive and in the cutscene you can see that he is even growing a new following.

2fH0b1s.png

... and there's nothing you can do or say about that because the credits roll right then.

So this is a first episode of a planned 4-episode campaign designed around Copper gameplay mod. Fantastic stuff so far, the world will be a better place once the whole thing is out... in some 10, 15 years time.
Also, the final boss encounter took a couple of years off my life expectancy.

Fun game in in co-op, especially that area where one had to point out the creepers and other one try to hit them.

Shogun 2: Total War

Hadn't really played this one much since the original release, aside from a co-op campaign with that guy who used to post here but got cucked by his lesbian roommate. Never been my favourite Total War - the time period is all right but there's a lack of roleplay and family/political intrigue management that makes it feel a bit shallow to me. Battles are too fast (but work well with the simplified sieges), and overall the campaigns are a bit too player-centric. Perhaps a good experience for new or casual players who just want to experience the challenge of a single campaign, but each playthrough becomes too "gamey" with features like Realm Divide and scripted wars, not to mention the ludicrous AI cheating (I believe this is the only Total War to not only give massive bonuses to AI factions, but even swap out their armies with higher tier troops when hidden in the fog of war). I think the positive response to the "balance" of the Shogun 2 campaign also reinforced some negative things about how CA approach campaign design in Total War titles.

The most common criticism of the original game is the lack of unit and faction diversity, but I don't think this tells the whole story. Fall of the Samurai improves on this point with the addition of new technologies like rail networks, naval bombardment and steam-powered warships, but the fundamental problem is that inter- and intra- factional relationships are so dull and superficial that every side involved lacks character. On the upside, the sound design, animations, visual flair and art direction are arguably the best in the series.

I mitigated some of the game's weaknesses with minor changes like Osprey-inspired visual mods and the excellent Strongholds of the Samurai, which replaces many settlement maps with their real-life historical versions (and unlike similar mods for titles like Warhammer, these custom maps generally work very well), plus the all the minor DLC that give some more unique units to the original clans plus slightly more specialized mechanics to the Hattori and Ikko-Ikki. I've seen the entire package go for less than 5-10 kwabucks in some sales, so whilst I'm not S2's biggest fan, it's probably the best introduction to the modern Total War series for new players.

Cute. I need more.

y5NXPBM.jpg

I saw two options to get more copper from. One was a small patch relatively close to my factory. The other was larger but farther away and surrounded by lots of nests. I chose the latter. The base is getting attacked every 10 seconds or so. No problem.

XWNltJF.jpg

In the meantime I was getting tired of solar panels and accumulators. So I went nucular. This is my modest setup with 2 reactors and lots of wires to control fuel cells, steam, and mood lights.

87Gnej9.jpg

The lights turn green when the reactors are burning fuel cells. I didn't realize until now that steam can be stored in tanks indefinitely. Weird.
I should have researched nuclear power much earlier. Even 2 reactors produce more power than I'll ever need (to launch the rocket anyway).

gwEc6d1.jpg

While the rocket is being built, there is one more thing I wanted to do. Remember the copper mine that is constantly attacked?

I've made some alterations.

I'm free!
Seriously, this game is insidious. Sometimes I load my game with the intention to just quickly do 2 or 3 things, and suddenly 5 hours have passed. Even now there is much more to do, to optimize, to research. But I've had enough. One reason for me to revisit this game would be the 8 hour challenge. Maybe next year.
