The final siege on Moscow went difficult. Those ISU 122 and IS-2 were really not joking around with their huge cannons. In the end I ended communism with high speed.
With that victory in hand, I lead the Wehrmacht on the ultimate conquest: USA herself.
I almost shat my pants when I saw this kind of almost scifi grade toys. To be honest, I've never took much research into German weaponries, but thanks to Panzer Corps and the knowledge it brought along, it really opened my eyes on how scary and crazy German war engineering was.
The invasion was a huge pain in the ass. The US navy with their battleships huge firing range combined with the radars and forts with their huge spotting range, along with their masses of Mustangs in the sky, made the landing procedure a really painful experience. After sacrificing one of my tactical bomber along with most of the Kriegsmarine ships, my main force finally landed and proceeded with an all out strike.
During the midwest campaign there were many big tank fights including this one. Patton himself lead one of the battalions and proved to be a deadly opponent. Fortunately there was no anti-air guns around and all of the midwest USAF were annihilated by my hi-tech looking Gotha Go 229, so I bombed the US tank division with all my might and destroyed them by ganging up with a combination of infantry and tanks. Those M26 and M36 Jacksons were really scary, they blow up my Panther Gs like kitties while even Tiger Is could barely make a dent in their armor.
Those bunch of tanks wanted to attack our troops from the flank when we attempt to capture the final target city, but fortunately my scouts discovered them first and we launched a preemptive strike, destroying them first before going for the city itself. PS: That was after loading a game, as these guys' plan was actually very successful as in my first try they destroyed my flank while I was laying siege on the final city.
The US west coast was my final battle. I expected heavy resistance as they were backed by nothing but the Pacific ocean. And according to Sun Tzu, when an army fights with nowhere to retreat, they'll become extremely deadly.
LA alone was a stressful grind. What isn't shown in the screenshot is how I spent like 4 turns trying to destroy 4 heavily entrenched troops, including an overpowered "Secret Service" unit with 15 strength, 10 entrenchment and could destroy Panther Gs in one hit. Fortunately my hugeass Schwerer Gustav railway cannon and other artillery support proved to be invaluable in reducing their numbers and weaken their resistance. Those counterattacking M26 and M36 still heavily damaged some of my best tank groups.
Fortunately, my two other divisions - one going for Seattle, and one defending our flank from Ranger troops attacking from Montana - were quite successful in their duties despite I had assigned only a moderate number of units for them. Therefore I didn't need to split units from my main division (the one fighting in LA) to help them, and I could allocate all my bombers to aid them in the final battle - The Battle of San Francisco.
The first few days it was plagued by horrible weather, rendering my units unable to spot that annoying Long Tom artillery, which keeps shooting at my guys both when we attack or when they counter attack. Fortunately, my Maus tanks and Tigers were hardcore enough to resist the barrages while blasting away at those entrenched AT guns. And finally, one day the sun shone, and the weather couldn't hide the US troops anymore. The Long Tom was annihilated under my heavy barrage of long range fire, and without artillery protection the other troops were quickly destroyed as well.
The final enemy infantry troop defending San Francisco had the huge advantage of having only one front to face. But unfortunately for him, I had 6 different artillery units stationed all within firing range, along with one strategic bomber on top of them. In the end, it was proven again that artillery is the King of Battle, and I forced them to surrender with my SS Tiger I unit.
With the USA under control, the German successfully prevented the birth of EA, Activision, Apple, and other corporations or cultures of the decline, and educated everyone in the world to play The Dark Eye RPGs and enjoy dirty German porn.
Some final thought: The USA campaign was absolutely brutal, there was little to no spare prestige to use, USA equipments were all highly lethal (Panther Gs were like papertanks, only Tiger II had a chance to stand toe-to-toe with M26 Pershings but you could afford at most a couple of Tiger IIs, mine there was only one), and there were lots of surprise counter attacks, not to mention the awful terrain (bottlenecks everywhere) and how deep the defenders are entrenched. I've lost like 5 core units even with constant S/L, and for the survivors I must resort to using green replenishment. In the end it really taught me how horrible it would be for any country trying to attack USA on its soil.
The game itself is perfect. I'm really looking forward to try its Grand Campaign DLCs.
