Let's try some older FPS.

Here is the intro music.

What's happening with my eyes ? (Note: the track is used as one of the easter eggs in Fear)

That was the good ending, when you choose to deny helping the evil guy. Let's see the ending boss when we stick with him.

But it's nothing compared to the "rescue the cat" mission. You'll hate them after you finish it.

Should've posted the screenshot from that one with something like "I saved Unkillable Cat with a toy based on other, extremely killable one".

(Get it? "Extremely killable one", since Captain Claw is a bloody hard game. Ya die a lot. Get it? "Extremely killable cat"!

I'm fucking bad at this "humor" thing)

Playing SHOGO without potato version is massive treason. Please report to your nearest commissariat as soon as possible.

There was a potato version ?

[Checks youtube]

Ah yes, it was made by Topware guys. I've played always english version, even after releasing the PL version. I avoided in the 90's the translations like a plague (excluding Dungeon Keeper). Judging by the quality it's really decent, but I couldn't force myself to finish that version. Nostalgia is a bitch.

Been playing mostly handheld stuff lately. Right now, Project x Zone-u weeb faggotry. I like it. Closest thing to a Valkyrie Profile combat system, but with a crossover cast wrapped in an (easy) tactical turn-based package.

It's got to be the easiest SRPG I've ever played, even after self-imposing a bunch of handicaps. But the combat system is a lot of fun and addictive regardless. Enemies come in different weight classes and sometimes have shields that need broken before you can start doing damage. It's rewarding to lay waste to a mission after labbing out perfect combo strings and which assists work best with different units in training mode. The MvC3 player in me is pleased. Zero even does lightning loops and has a phobia of spikes.

Story-wise it's very gay and I end up skipping most cutscenes. The fanfic is very strong. Turning off japanu voice acting is a must. All of the original characters they invented are annoying, one of them whose lines are 90% memes and pop culture references. Still kinda fun to see the characters interact, though.

The HECU are still stupidly overpowered, the game still has a couple of really bad encounters and Surface Tension is missing a good chunk (though the next content update will restore Surface Tension in all its glory plus overhaul the other maps), but the amount of work is really quite insane and the game plays great a good 90% of the time (played with On A Rail Uncut). It just sucks a bit that the HECU make chapters like Questionable Ethics and the first half of Surface Tension way more unfair than they should. The biological research lab lobby encounter hasn't changed at all since the mod version and it still blows really hard.

I think it's time to reinstall Arcanum, there is a lot of stuff I've missed. 20 charisma and full persuasion, right?

Was it even straightofroward "gud VS ebil" affair?
It's been ages since I played Shogo, but IIRC the whole thing was much more ambiguous and nuanced, I remember being quite surprised when I took the "ebil" path on my second playthrough.

Also, a much, much better FPS than Blood 2, even though mecha parts were somewhat lacklustre (due to not feeling like mecha, the weapons packed a lot of oomph, though).

Yep, that's what I had and I also just checked the scripts to confirm.
And doing that I also found that you can actually kill/convince Kerghan without the Vendigroth device (need another item, though), apparently that's if you take the evil path.

So there's still life in Black Mesa. Question: Is there a mod that removes Residue Processing entirely? That would be some serious :incline: .

The best level so far in Scholar of the First Sin. The boss fight was good as well and the level design is better than anything in the base game.

It would have been so, so much better without its bizarre & utterly random critical hit "system" tho. I can kinda get why they thought that it would be a good idea, since it can minimize reliance on medpaks (ya score a critical, and a portion of your HP is restored). And, I guess it was like some sort of jRPG influence that they thought was a nice fit for their whole mecha anime theme.
But, the fact that enemies can score criticals too almost forces you to savescum. One moment your health is at 80-90, next moment you are dead from a singe shot from random grunt that was standing behind a cover or just popped through a door, or was placed in a convenient sniping spot some distance away. And you will suffer those criticals relatively often, if for no other reason then due to number of enemies, their mostly hitscan nature, their superior reaction times.
Fucking ruinous for a fast paced shooter.

Does it still end right as you enter Xen?

The lobby fight is hard, but I enjoyed the challenge when I played it. Took some trial and error and a bunch of explosives (IIRC), but the marines went down in the end.

I like Residue Processing, and I think their version is sometimes better than the original. You can of course skip maps via console.

Yeah Xen isn't in there yet. I believe they improved Lambda Core quite a bit because I had a lot more fun this time around than with the mod.
The two main issues with the lobby assault is that the reinforcements that arrive through the door arrive too quickly, and that there is no calm after the storm. You barely dispatched the HECU dropped from the Osprey that a second wave of Marines arrives seconds later, plus you have two goons on the roof that tear you a new one because they are still too accurate and fire continually unlike in HL where they shot in bursts, plus this whole sequence isn't there in HL and for good reason: in Black Mesa, if you don't die to the lobby assault the parking lot outside plus the tunnel leading to Surface Tension's first map will kill you. And if that still doesn't cut it, then the path leading to the dam will. I certainly wouldn't have done that. I mean the lobby sequence is cool on paper but there is already a lot of resistance waiting for you outside the Biological Research Lab and on the dam. It's just too much.

Less Biowarian you mean ? I admit that I simplified it, by the betrayal of UCA felt to me like that for me. Siding with the Fallen was a harder path though, considering the timed bomb and the huge mecha at the end when you have no MCA. Later on it show more nuanced approach and both different outcomes work.

Option 1
Sanjuro accepts, and fights UCA troopers before reaching a ship to board the Leviathan. Sanjuro meets up with Kathryn, and fights his way through the ship to reach the kato cannon firing controls. With minutes left to go, Sanjuro disables them, and defeats Ryo, who plans on reactivating the kato cannon, which was most likely his reason for telling the admiral what he did. The epilogue suggests that the Admiral will be court-martialed, the CMC has surrendered, and the Fallen have declared a truce with the UCA and Toshiro remaining on Cronus as an "ambassador" to Cothineal.

Option 2
Sanjuro refuses, and fights Fallen troopers inside the ruined museum. He escapes and, defeating Fallen troops in the city, proceeds on to the Fallen headquarters using the same way he planned on using early in the game. He proceeds through the city rooftops, and on to the outskirts of the city, where he learns that Shogo fighters are attacking the Leviathan. Sanjuro enters the elevator leading to Gabriel, and, brushing off Kathryn's concerns, fights with and defeats Baku. Sanjuro reaches Gabriel, who is being protected by an energy field that Cothineal creates, and learns that Shogo reinforcements will attack from behind. Sanjuro shoots Cothineal's eye, lowering Gabriel's defenses, and disables Gabriel's MCA. He then defeats Ryo's reinforcements, and Ryo himself. The epilogue notes that Toshiro is being treated for his time under Cothineal's control, and that Admiral Akkaraju will be investigated for disobeying High Command, but little will come of it. Humanity will also work to gain peace with Cothineal.
